I always thought someone who was good at HOMAM3 should be elected president -- good at allocating/distributing money, preparing for long term prosperity while surviving short term, willing to sacrifice disposable heroes for the greater good, all while accounting for random struggles. All good skills for a president.
wow, I played so much differently than you do. I always took experience from chests and rolled with 2-3 heroes tops. I'd stack all my troops on one hero after building up my city as fast as possible and zerg the computer. I now see your method is significantly better and I was never good at this game. Interested to see how this one turns out! Glad you're uploading again!
@David Semyprocargo and anyone else who wants to know I recorded this in Camtasia Studio 8. As far as I know that's the only program you can use to record Heroes 3 ( without it crashing all the time )
hey chris67132, just wanted to say I'm a fan of your vids. I recently watched some of your Civ IV playthroughs, but HOMM3 and MOO2, heck yes. I still play these (too) often.
This is an awesome video series. Thanks for posting them, they are very enlightening. I can't wait to see what your strategy is for a castle siege because that's really the worst thing for me. I do okay in battles (nowhere near as well as you do), but I always get trashed or otherwise take very heavy losses when trying to take over a castle.
I used to go with experience chests as well. The problem is that if you plan your buidings well, like don't upgrade until you have all of the unupgraded ones, you will have more creatures than you can buy. Instead, fight every battle for experience and only take 1 or 2 initial chests with experience if you want a boost:D Cheers
Man you're awesome! Not only bring me a really good nostalgia, but also I learn the game and see how wrong I've been playing it since i was a kid xD Btw on a note of tournaments, how was it working out in the terms of time? Since you probably need around 5-10 min for each turn later on in the game, did you ever feel rushed cuz you know there's people waiting for you?
The total game time was like 6-8 hours from what I remember. Made even more difficulty because of the crappy internet in those days ( 56K was top of the line ). Having someone disconnect at least once per game was pretty usual. Then you had to find each other again on one of the multiplayer networks and reconnect. This was made worse by the fact that a lot of players were from places like Russia, you can imagine the fragile connection on a 56k over that distance. Depending on who you played against you might feel rushed. Sometimes when I played the new players they wanted 2 minute turns. That was hard once I got used to taking 4 minute turns. Then other guys wanted 6 or even 8 minute turns. Then I was falling asleep and forgetting my moves waiting for these guys.
Taking on that Griffin Conservatory with just 3 Behemoths and 100+ Hobgoblins was amazing. Also, you were definitely right about Luna being crazy good in the early game: th-cam.com/video/s5hEh-MnIQ8/w-d-xo.html (also shows the HD mod looking good)
I hear you talking about hero skills in the beginning of the video and I really like playing the rampart town. So my question is do you believe Kyrre to be one of the best heroes of the bunch they have for their town?
Thanks for the answer Absolute zero, and could you also tell me why are you not upgrading everything in your castle? And like almost not buying an army, just somehow going through wining battles and creatures, is this a better tactic?
Well usually I go for troops first and then use those troops to gather more resources the first week. The second week I might start upgrading some stuff in my castle.
Any way you can check your volume/screen size when you're recording? Watching this on my laptop I can't really see the video nor hear. Still enjoy your videos, keep it up!
I'm surprised about the can't hear complaint. The volume is plenty loud on my computer. Next time I'll try to stretch the video to a higher resolution.
This might be a bit late... I'm trying to get back into this game after some years not playing it. I see on for example hobgoblin and thunderbird that doesn't have double attack ability you are able to attack and then move the unit and attack again. How do you do that?
No what I meant to say was the mobility of the hero is decided at the start of the turn based on the speed of the slowest troop they have. I'm sure there's exact figures for this somewhere on the internet ( gamefaqs probably has a guide that lists it ).
I wonder. Why didn't you rush capital early? just buy the cheap required buildings and your set 4000 per day and also why do you pass by some minerals if your still gonna pass by them, why not just grab them on the way
Chris67132 ah, I thought getting capital early meant to faster get the gold needed for more units so you could get them more often and fight more head on rather than splitting for cover and exchanging between heroes all the time
Most people think that at the start but it turns out that it's better to go for the troop buildings first, because on most maps you can use the creatures to grab more gold and resources then you would get by building up your town first.
I normally rush capitol but it requires hiring heroes of the same town for troops and having a convoy hero so you use the same troops in multiple battles on the same day (aiming for wood and ore on the first day.) I normally have a throng of the first level units and lots of the second level unit on the first turn. If you are lucky or choose your favorite hero, on turn 2 buy the mage guild for spells and then you move out, aiming for gold or towns. I normally have 4.350 gold per turn, castle, capitol, and all creature buildings before week 2. (If lucky with the gold intake.)
It's more comfy to hire all of the creatures from the castle, isn't it? Why do you hire the creatures from the each creature building? Some kind of your habit?
Easily thant is one of the most overpowered heroes in the game. Animate dead is permanent without any skill in earth magic, and costs less then Resurrection. Also if you have skeletons thant gets a huge bonus to cast animate dead on them ( forgot what the bonus is exactly but it gets really impressive at higher levels because skeletons are level 1 ). Other then the fact that he starts with mysticism Thant is an amazing hero.
+Chris67132 I thought it could be because of that, animated dead and stuff, until I saw you were giving the skeletons to other heroes. I thought you wanted to get rid of them. Then I realised you were just hoarding them. I have to give Thant another try then, I haven't played with necropolis since I was like 10. Thanks for the response!
I have other things to spend money on? Wouldn't it be better to take that money, buy all the creatures you can and capture another town with a city hall already built?
Chris67132 I always have the same strategy as trapkiod, getting high income is priority one. A person who goes for income first couldn't he crush you in like week 4? (I'm ofcourse not pro but I've been playing casually since 90's.)
Fragmad123, the answer is no. When people first started playing H3 competitively this was the thinking, get a Capitol ASAP and go from there. Then people figured out it was better to take that money and get the highest level creatures ASAP. Then use those creatures to take more of the maps resources / artifacts. Turned out you ended up a lot stronger that way. That's the case 99% of the time, and maybe 1% of the time it might be better to build up your town hall first if that map has almost 0 resources. Crimson and Clover is the only map I can think of where that might be the case.
Chris67132 Thanks for the answer. Interesting tactic for sure. Would you say that the game strategies are perfected already or is there room for improvements still? The more I play HOMM3 I realise what a complex game it is so I figure there's gotta be lots of room for creativity. Anyway, so basically, the less resources on the map = more value for a quick capitol, I assume.
Yes, less resources = ( maybe ) capitol is a higher priority. There's always room for improvement, the best strategies are known but you can always make less mistakes.
get intelligence specialty and never take knowledge, always spell power. So, you don't play the tournament anymore? I wanted to play it, but got sick just by reading rules. By the way, did you hear of VCMI?
sitting at 4 am being tired as shit that shit at 1:01:05 really fucking spooked me jesus christ man
+radarpinki that souded like movie punch =D
Sounded like someone got punched hard! lol
thanks for the heads up 😂

+Brian Joseph Also remember that the president will disband anyone who he doesn't need. :D
In a sense you're right, but lol........no
1:01:4
scared the heck outta me man.
Yup, it's late as hell here and I literally jumped out of my seat. lmfao
Actually sounded like a combat sound from the game xD
Sounded like I got sucker punched!
Sounded like a slap to the face!
That sneeze certainly got me. And I read through the comments beforehand -_-

Pro sharing his strategies. You rock, man!

Diplomacy is such an underrated skill to have. So often troops are more inclined to join your army if you have basic diplomacy. 👍
True but usually disabled in pvp.
hey chris67132, just wanted to say I'm a fan of your vids. I recently watched some of your Civ IV playthroughs, but HOMM3 and MOO2, heck yes. I still play these (too) often.
This commentary is actually better then the first part. I learned a lot in this video :) thanks, you should do post commentary more often.
Dat end sneeze.

I'm watching your video from bed almost asleep. Then suddenly 1:01:05
Came here to learn. Thanks for the video!

Heroes 3 Expert Playthrough 1 - fuck thunderbirds edition
I have learned one thing. Not to buy when you start. Like i always bought something everyday and stuff. Like collect money first and tehn buy
Wtf was the sound in the end? It scared me:D
Keep up with Hereos and Civ!
Ah... memories... Time to replay it.
Yes in the beginning the gold is more valuable. Later on once you have plenty of gold you can start taking the experience to max out your main hero.
Man you're awesome! Chris67132 i rmb ppl banning necropolis/necromancy heroes in XL maps too haha XD nostalgic but hey, i still play homm 3 sometimes :D
Wow, you get more done in a day then i would in a week :P
Taking on that Griffin Conservatory with just 3 Behemoths and 100+ Hobgoblins was amazing. Also, you were definitely right about Luna being crazy good in the early game: th-cam.com/video/s5hEh-MnIQ8/w-d-xo.html (also shows the HD mod looking good)
Nice video, she sure is OP especially during the early stages :P
I hear you talking about hero skills in the beginning of the video and I really like playing the rampart town. So my question is do you believe Kyrre to be one of the best heroes of the bunch they have for their town?
Yes, any logistics heroes are a really strong choice and Kyrre is one of the better ones.
I just got on and haven't seen much of your videos yet. Do you have any campaign playthrough? I'm not much into single games.
Yes take a look at my playlists, I have several campaigns.
@@Chris67132 Thanks!

Chris67132 It's really quiet for me too.
With what do you record man :) I cant record with fraps it doesnt feat H3...
if you ever consider streaming at twitch, i will be your first follower

The wait option.
Yeah, saw it after watching for a while. thanks though :) Great videos!
Did you say that having more troops on Gretchen at start of turn makes her have less mobility? 23:30 Does it work like that?
No what I meant to say was the mobility of the hero is decided at the start of the turn based on the speed of the slowest troop they have. I'm sure there's exact figures for this somewhere on the internet ( gamefaqs probably has a guide that lists it ).

+magnusm4 the answer to both is time. I want to beat the map faster so I don't do everything I don't have to do.
Chris67132 ah, I thought getting capital early meant to faster get the gold needed for more units so you could get them more often and fight more head on rather than splitting for cover and exchanging between heroes all the time

I sneezed

***** habit, I do it from the castle in later videos.
Nice! =D
Why do you love Thant so much? You really got excited when you got it from prison, lol.
Easily thant is one of the most overpowered heroes in the game. Animate dead is permanent without any skill in earth magic, and costs less then Resurrection. did anyone ever play this multiplayer?
Yes I did when it first came out.
What do you think about heroes 4 chris?
I have 2 H4 playthroughs where I go into detail about that.
Why the hell dont you upgrade your city hall? :-)
I have other things to spend money on? Wouldn't it be better to take that money, buy all the creatures you can and capture another town with a city hall already built?

Any reason you don't use cure to save the thunderbirds? You don't seem to use your mana for anything else.
Don't actually remember why I didn't use cure, sorry this was years ago :-(
yes :)
Why are you not collecting the gold?
I collect resources as I need them usually.
WTF shat my pants! 1:01:05
:)
