    1) Remove that bit of fairing
    2) Have the engine run for a couple of minutes. warmer oil makes for an easier oil removal.
    3) Do not untighten that bolt that way for the love of god, youre gonna smash other parts of the bike that way.
    4) Loosen the bolt to an extend before you remove the oil cap. Remove the bolt and let it drain.
    5) Pour oil into the new filter before you screw it in.
    6) Keep the oil lvl in between of the two marks.

      I agree with everything except the last part. You should fill the oil just a but above the full line, when you run your engine the bike will "absorb" a bunch of oil and it'll be below the full mark.

    Hey did you know that the K&N oil filters come with a bolt on the end so you can easy remove them with a socket? I found that out after a few oils changes and it makes the whole process so much easier!

    Pro tip: instead of using a rag that oil is going to seep through anyway, wrap it a couple times of seran wrap before cracking the oil filter out.

      I replace the oil when it's warm, so I use aluminum foil

    I'm not sure why you keep "peeling back" your fairings... just take them off... 2 4" screws for each one and you don't have to deal with them, they stay very clean, and you dont scratch the crap out of them with a janky wrench. I would hate scratching my fairings up just to change the oil.

    • @A6Legit
      @A6Legit 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Id probably scratch them just moving them around once theyre off lol.

    • @aa1bb2cc3dd4
      @aa1bb2cc3dd4 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@A6Legit You just put them down face up and you can't scratch them. Or just bring out a towel and set them away from you on the towel. They aren't hard to remove and put back on.

      Yeah but just take the fairing off this guy made it so much harder
      If the oil hits the exhaust just use some brake cleaner on it and wipe it big deal

  • @G000BS

    oil filters should just be hand tight only. plus just use brake clean to clean the oil off the exhaust

  • @DjMysticalone
    @DjMysticalone 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    yeah its easy but youre not tightening the oil nut and the filter to the correct pounds of torque dude. thats why youve got an owners manual

  • @kenmcfadden7374
    @kenmcfadden7374 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sorry bro but oil level is not correct bike needs to be on ground before putting in oil also need to fill filter with new oil so you don't run the pump dry and you failed to empty all the old oil out of bike because of jack and it also helps to stradel and lean the bike towards drain then it should take around or close to double what you had probly a half quart shy of 4 that's all.

    • @GoldshackGarage
      @GoldshackGarage 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ken, I was thinking the same thing...if I were to use both stands on the bike, front and back, would this be the same as it being on the ground?

  • @cg9608
    @cg9608 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Around 3 minutes you say go to the other side of the bike take off the cap....you mean the same cap where the funnel/oil will go IN?

      @@dust4thewind Figured! I tried changing mine tonight @300 miles (2015 was kept in garage for 3 yrs by previous owner) and I could NOT get the filter off. Wow 😠. Definitely need that tool haha

    • @jakehoward4881
      @jakehoward4881 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cg9608 you don't need a specialty tool. It's helpful, but if you intend to own more than one bike you can save yourself some money by just buying a claw style filter wrench. They're sold at your local Walmart.

    Change the oil when it's cold? Using the old oil to coat the ring of the new filter?? Oil soaked rags sitting on the exhaust? Using a wrench to put stress on the fairing bolts and possibly scratch expensive fairings when it takes a couple of minutes to remove them.... wow

  • @cg9608
    @cg9608 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @RealSnowMan78
    @RealSnowMan78 ปีที่แล้ว

    What? You don't intentionally drop tools in the drain pan? I thought that was part of the process 😂😂

  • @stevenfalcon2813
    @stevenfalcon2813 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    No you want the oil to be hot, that way all the debris is floating in the oil when you drain it.

      I’m thinking doin the oil change on my 2007 ninja 650r I have 3 quarters of oil I have the measuring cup but I’m not sure how to use it on top it said 2.5 and rite below it said 16.1 what’s the rite measure of oil for it

    • @charlesleeray3098
      @charlesleeray3098 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or how many quarters of oil you used in total

    • @dust4thewind
      @dust4thewind  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do about 2 and a half quarters. There’s a oil gauge on the right side of your bike. I fill it up with 2 quarters. Replace the cap and run the bike for about 5 minutes(so that the oil circulates thought the bike and filter). Turn it off and fill the oil within the recommend level
