    I'm a homeowner and have gone from gas to 100% EGO and couldn't be happier. Mower, string trimmer, pole saw, blower, and waiting for winter to use my new 2 stage snowblower. Great products.

    Everyone praising ego are homeowners, eco activists or sales reps. Essentially people who don't do lawn care landscaping for a living. The theory makes sense but real world practice quickly shows the faults. I've been trying to go electric for 6 years. Friend of mine went gas from the beginning 6 years ago. He knocks out 30-40 houses a day, I do 15 and fill in the rest of the time with flower bed work and other tasks cause the batteries can't keep up if I tried to do 20+ houses a day. After my 5th year seeing how much more I work to make up the efficiency of gas, I've slowly added gas back into my arsenal and this year was the best year I've had. We're running businesses not charities.

      You could look at Allett Stirling - they use EGO's motors and batteries, but in a convertible reel/cylinder form. Accessories include dethatchers and such. Of course, it's pricey.

    The STX4500 trimmer has a no load speed of ... only 5200 RPM? A bit on the low side of commercial trimmers. Why even bother with a 3 speed selector?

    Switched to Milwaukee for my mower. Faster, more powerful. Better vortex.

  • @robertthompson3447
    @robertthompson3447 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cool blower, but it still isn't as violent as a gas blower. And so, to get that more violent vortex needed to get the debris out of an ivy bed (or just for leaf season in general) I have taken to using two bowers. One backpack and one hand held in my left hand. Because this one has two batteries, could it be designed to support a second blowing wand? I don't care about battery life. I just put the depleted batteries in the trailer to charge. (Trailer 1.2 kwh main battery for refueling)

    Lets be real, anyone who cuts grass commercially is not buying battery equipment. I don't need to worry everyday I leave the house if I charged the batteries or not. As long as I have gas I can keep working as long as I need. How many expensive batteries do I need to cut all my yards in a day? Just to get into a electric trimmer I would need a $430 dollar trimmer. 2x5.0AH batteries are going to run me $500. All to have less power, worst run time and to slow production. Oh, not to mention the Commercial backpack blower cost $1,300 dollars. I can buy two any brand gas backpack blowers and have quadruple the efficiency. Can we get some input from lawn care professionals that actually use these things to make money?

      Hey, lawn care professional here. Started picking up Ego stuff last summer. Love the line trimmer I got then. I have since aquired the 24" hedge trimmer, two different mowers (21" Select cut XP self propelled, and an old 2017 21" push mower), and the backpack blower. I have two fast and one turbo charger, turbo will charge a second battery as fast as I drain the first. Got two 2.5Ah, five 5Ah, and one 7.5Ah batteries, but basically only use three 5Ah on rotation, and one 2.5 for the hedge trimmer, which basically goes most of the day on one 2.5 battery.
      I will say the CURRENT backpack and ironically the newer mower are the only things I'm not as impressed with. 21" XP uses nearly 50% more power than the older mower, and the self propelled is FAR too slow for commerical usage. The backpack blower eats electricity like crazy, and is the only thing that will go through a battery faster than a backup will charge, assuming full power blowing. Most of the time, that's not an issue, cause you don't need to blast it full power the whole time. But in my area there's a lot of wet leaves in the fall, and it's under powered for that, which means you're blasting it full power and draining the battery super fast. I'm actually quite excited for this new blower, eager to get my hands on one.
      In about 12 months worth of lawn care, it's saved me over $1300 in gas (in CDN$) at a cost of about $2000, since I got most of it used or in exchange for some labour.

      Guess you don’t live in a jurisdiction with a far overreaching government that is demanding the end of gasoline powered equipment. Whether we as lawn care professionals like it or not, the day will soon be upon us. I am hoping to see a 36”, 42” or 48” commercial grade walk behind come out of EGO or any other manufacturer in the future. Glad to see that EGO is putting what is hopefully commercial grade tools out there now so that we can be ready for the day.

      It doesn't make sence yet to go full electric. You can have pieces of it electric but not all. Mklwalke battery system is far superior to this. Too much $$ for too little run times. Home owners this is great not for someone doing 10 lawns a day for 6 days a week 😀 👍

    I don't believe contractors ask where will they charge their batteries. They're gonna ask how long will the batteries last. That question wasn't answered here. replacing 96 batteries, assuming contractors will use the highest capacity batteries available for the most run time and power, will be horrendously expensive and you're going to run through these batteries quickly with how you will be using them all day every day. You go from 20 to 30 battery cycles per year for residential users to 400 to 500 cycles per year. at the latest you will be replacing those packs every 3 years. You better hope EGO is offering some fantastic volume discounts to lesson the cost.
    A good question to ask would be what the charge cycle rating is for their 12ah batteries.
