Excellent video. I noticed at 2:18 that there appear to be two hoses between the cars rather than the usual one. I wonder if these cars have electro-pneumatic brakes?
No that hose is for the air cylinders that open the doors on the bottom of the car. The air brake system has it's air supply, and the air cylinders has another.

Yes it was starting to slow quite a bit and the sanders were on the pushers. Locomotives seem to struggle in the colder weather.
