    in 2015 I was exposed to timber framing modelling in Revit in Cornwall without having timber buildability experience , it was traumatic though, since then, I have been very appreciative of timber frame buildability. The way you guys assemble the timber frame panels is very educational, Impressive and made it easy to understand. Thank you very much for spreading your timber frame knowledge online

    Loving the build process. When using a cutting disc on an angle grinder it is best to use safety glasses AND a full face visor. Cutting discs can shatter easily, there are plenty of pictures online showing the horrific injuries that can be suffered. Have to look after the boyish good looks of your team. Also, some people (including places that sell them) don’t know that discs have use by dates on them. Keep up the great videos.

    Just a quick tip instead of measuring 400 and putting the stud in the centre. Measure 380mm from the end and then come off of that mark and mark 400 then X on the right side of that mark this will give you bang on centre instead of guessing centre

    • @thegardenroomguru
      @thegardenroomguru  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Guessing centre works for us, quick is best when your trying to make a pound or two

    • @AccountantDoesDIY
      @AccountantDoesDIY 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree with Liam on this one. I initially adopted your approach Cameron and marked up the left edge of each of my studs (I was doing 16inch so had to pull back 3/4 of an inch from 16 if memory serves). But given its pretty easy to eyeball the centre and the tolerances don’t need to be absolutely bang on for stud work, I went with the quicker option of just marking the centres in the end.

Good video but you should leave a 3mm gap between boards because they expand and could buckle/distort cls

    very entertaining i have a question in regards to the bottom plate although its nailed shut to the deck it has however only 3 nails per stud into end grain of the stud which is a very weak point 13 studs= 39 nails .i am just wondering if it would be more secure if there was some sort of metal L bracket say every 800mm that could be nailed to side of stud wall and through bottom plate into deck . i am thinking of up lift experienced with high winds . or am i just been paranoid .thanks for sharing,

    Why don't you use 610mm spacing for wall studs? I'm a timber frame designer and we never use 400c/c. If you space the wall studs to cater for the actual OSB width of 1220mm then you don't need to rip them down. There is obviously then a good saving in studs and labour and time, just sayin. Also less studs = less cold bridges. You could also do this for you floor joists and probably for the roof joists depending on the span.

    You probably want to keep using the 11mm OSB, but if you get the 9mm OSB it comes in metric so saving you a bit of time cutting 20mm off every board

      I didn't know that, but after checking with our supplier theres are still 4ft, must be a different supplier I guess

      @@thegardenroomguru Yes my timber merchant said the same thing to me, but I took a tape measure in there to check and prove them wrong. 9mm OSB is made in metric to fit 400mm centres

      Fair enough, it’s still a down grade on spec for us though 🙈

      There’s a funny bit in one of Ali D’s videos where he thought he’d found the elusive metric OSB sheet but when he rang up the suppliers they said it was a typo on their website :-)

    Would the steel beam be suitable for a 4m opening for the bifolds? You only seem to have 3m openings on most of your builds.

      Good question. Also, is the steel cold rolled or hot formed as the properties are different. Where do you source it from?

    Do you use treated or standard timber?
