    Very nice finish!!
    How much material displacement is there to compensate for if your preparing a bearing race section?
    I'm assuming you would loose a bit of material during the compression stage.

    • @Mauri59g
      @Mauri59g  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you very much, it depends on many factors but largely on the degree of finishing roughness of the preparation turning.
      1) To have precise parameters, I always use the same insert with a large radius that leaves few crests.
      2) I always use 1 tenth of lap pressure, but this pressure depends on the stiffness of the lathe.
      3) When polished soft metal I consider + 1.5 cents.
      4) For medium hard metals (C40 - C 45) I consider + 1 cent
      These considerations apply to my machine/tool complex. and they might be different using my roller on another machine.

    Many years ago before the advent of CNC machine tools, Capstan and Turret Lathes used to use something called a Roller Box. It was a similar idea except that it used 2 hardened steel rollers and a turning tool. The rollers formed two points of a triangle in the form of a 3 point steady with the point of the turning tool being the third point. The surface finish was always better than a simple turned surface plus it relieved most of the side pressure on the Lathe Spindle bearings and so it was also suitable for turning small diameters that would otherwise flex.

    • @Mauri59g
      @Mauri59g  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you very much mr Myorky, yes with that you could also machine thin and long bars, the turned ridges were crushed but it was still not a mirror surface

    Hi Maurizio, love the things you are doing, I'll be looking at building one of these in the future. I'm certainly glad you put the English translation on as a subtitle, my Italian is not so good, despite visiting on numerous occasions for holidays and work. I’m a little confused by your use of the word “doily” though. A doily is a cloth or paper napkin that you might put cakes on, on a tray when you have afternoon tea. Have a look at the English version of Wikipedia. If you could clarify I’d really appreciate it. Cheers, Bill.

    Bravissimo come al solito un ottimo lavoro .Ho un po' di dubbi sulla durata della sede della sfera, anche se il maggiore sforzo va sul cuscinetto ,un po' di sforzo quando vai verso il mandrino lo riceve il porta utensile e ti potrebbe fare consumare l'acciaio che non è temprato.

    • @Mauri59g
      @Mauri59g  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Grazie mille Arigliano, si il porta utensile non è temprato volutamente per non rigare la sfera, non è nemmeno acciaio adatto alla tempra, ma la sfera è talmente liscia che ci vorranno un pò di anni per sboccolare la sede, tanto più che la sfera dove si appoggia crea una nuova sede e sempre lì rimane con l'avanzamento. ad ogni modo un commento interessante.

      Muchas gracias Juan Carlos, muy amable.
      En el pasado ya había intentado sustituir las ruedas de la moleta basculante por 2 cojinetes convenientemente biselados en los bordes de apoyo, el resultado fue decepcionante... sólo aplastamiento del metal de forma desordenada, tal vez debido a que el rodamiento es demasiado fluido, parece que para funcionar bien se necesitan 2 componentes, 1) la presión adecuada 2) un esfuerzo de fricción y no de rodadura libre.
      la base de soporte de bolas o rodillos crea esa fricción que parece gustarte.
      No es fácil de explicar, espero que lo entiendas.

      There is no specific design, sorry,
      the play between the bearing and the ball is minimal, but no matter how much play there is, the important thing is that it comes into contact during work.
      The more difficult the roll, the game is centesimal

      @@Mauri59g Just wondering. I've been researching DIY & Complete burnishing tools for several months; the ready to go complete tools all seem to have carbide contact material.
      Seems to me carbide would be more effect & efficient at equal contact pressures than HSS or hardened bearing race.
      Keep hoping someone will do a comparison.
      I imagine both the sphere & rod you used are metric? My wife works for a very large industrial/metal working distributor in the US. Their employee purchasing program alloys me to buy at cost +10%, free S&H. The limit to me offering to send you carbide parts is the carbide spheres & round stock I've bought from them is all imperial. The carbide is very inexpensive; costs more to ship to you. But, I might get away w/ an overweight letter.
      Let me know the dimensions of the sphere & the diameter & cut length of the rod & I'll see how close I can get.

      Thank you very much George, you are very kind, but I don't need harder material.
      In my small workshop I use softer steels, the hardest steel I use is C45 which lends itself very well to hardening and has a hardness degree of HRC45.
      My rolling machine has a carbon chrome ball with HRC64 and an Hss roller with HRC68 grade so they work fine as they are.

      More than willing to send the carbide bits, though.
      I'm about to try some lengths of carbide rod in a set fly cutters I just got. Was looking at different options & I've been seeing some indexable tool holders coming out of China made from carbide, so, I thought, what the heck, worst it'll do is snap real easy. Still have the smaller pieces to make brazed tools out of.
      Just discovered your channel, look forward to working my way through you catalog; you explain things very well & I'm always looking to pick up techniques & processes.
      You are the first YT'r, & I've watched a LOT in the last 5-6 yrs, to talk about setting to tool post w/ one dovetail facing the bed & the other the head stock.
      I've the question 10-15 times if the is a standard position for lathe tooling. I see all kinds of positions, but knowing there's a recommended gives a starting point for seeing what's best for one's machine.

      Grazie Davide, 4 anni fa spesi compreso tutto 3500,00 euro, ma siccome è una richiesta che mi fate in tanti, metto un copia/incolla.
      Il mio tornio è di importazione Cinese modello: CJM320B della Luzhong Machine, lo presi tramite Alibaba che ti mette in contatto direttamente all’azienda costruttrice.
      Serve P.IVA perché va fatturato, non ti dico lo sbattimento per l’importazione e per fartelo consegnare a casa.
      Presi quel modello perché tra i compatti era l’unico ad avere un buon letto guide e la scatola norton.
      Gli feci sostituire il motore originario 220V da 750W troppo piccolo con uno da 1500W, così è performante.
      Non avessi avuto problemi di spazio avrei optato per un europeo.
      Ora lo si trova anche su Aliexpress che fa servizio privati con consegna inclusa e credo sia tutto più facile.
      Non credo però siano comprese le spese doganali.

    Ciao Maury stavolta 3 domandine;
    1) L'angolo di inclinazione del rullino 1,5° va bene in generale ?
    2) La retifica del rullino ( sembra la superficie dopo una lappatura ) e necessaria per arrivare a spigolo sull'angolo ?
    3) Ultimo quesito ho delle sfere da 6 mm o da 13 mm e meglio usare la piccola o la grossa ?
    Grazie di tutto e Auguri di Buona Pasqua

    • @Mauri59g
      @Mauri59g  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Grazie Massimo.
      1) 1,5° dipende da tanti fattori, dalla smussatura impressa nell'angolo del rullino, dal grado di finitura della tornitura di preparazione, dalla durezza del materiale, dalla pressione che diamo che a sua volta va considerata in base alla finitura della tornitura, dalla consistenza "elastica" del tornio, 1,5° va bene come base di partenza , ma poi va affinato in base al sopra citato con diverse prove 0,5+ / 0,5-
      2) il rullino vuole perfetto e sopratutto nella forma della semi- smussatura, la barra Hss che ho usato io era già di suo rettificata.
      3) il "guaio" che succede di frequente sopratutto per acciai dolci è lo sfondamento della superfice, invece dovrebbe essere solo una deformazione delle creste che vanno a riempire le cave (mare mosso che diventa piatto) creando un unico livello, eccedere è facilissimo sopratutto con macchine leggere che non hanno stabilità, quindi tornando alla domanda, certamente meglio la sfera grossa.
      Buona Pasqua a te e tutti
