Great video. 35006 is a beautiful loco. It’s a shame that she won’t be joining her sisters 18 and 28 on the mainline. Such a powerful machine is very restricted on a heritage railway.
Cheers! While it is a shame, it also keeps wear and tear down on 'P&O', reducing required maintenance, costs and required labour. As such, when the next overhaul comes around, there's a significantly better chance at a lower cost, quick overhaul and re-entry into traffic.
TheSoutherner Yes in hindsight what you’re saying makes complete sense plus means we can enjoy 3 of these machines in operation and possibly more in future. Maybe 35006 will visit the GCR where the “mainline” experience can be had. I think they can run at 45 MPH there on the TPO as no passengers are on board. Would give her a chance to stretch her legs!
All 'ifs and buts', but I'd gladly see it happen. Having 3 in steam for now, at least gives people the chance to experience both the engine at speed as designed on the mainline, and a little more close and personal on preserved lines, where prices are more achievable.
