Love the Sandy Taupe troopies! Just don't get carried away with "needing" all the gear. From watching your videos you could get away with a light weight, basic, reliable touring build.
They are an awesome car. This is an interesting comment, it’s got me thinking about “need” vs “want”. I might do a video on it.
While I don’t necessarily disagree with you, it’s their channel & their car so what does it matter what they do to the vehicle.

True, I agree. It's not my car or money or channel. They can do what they want. Clearly I watch the channel anyway. I've just seen a lot of touring vehicles that have every bell and whistle and it pushes them close and over GVM. I like good gear just as much as the next bloke but I think a lot of today's focus is on gear now rather than just getting out and enjoying the outdoors. But I run a fairly minimal set up so I'm biased.

Nothing like them on the market. I’d get a Hilux over a 79, but there just isn’t anything like a troopy. So many great accessories to turn them into the best tourers.
But, absolutely they are overpriced for what they are, both new and second hand.
Until you’ve done hundreds and hundreds of thousands (millions even) of real world rough off road driving you’ll never know. Once you have you’ll get it.

But to be negative this whole Channel started out as a budget build touring kinda thing you got great success from it. Then the old landcruiser came along and that was fun, anddddd then the sponsors started getting on board. Now this vehicle. This channel has turned into yet ANOTHER massive budget look what we got for free build like all the rest of the 4x4 youtube channels. Keeping up with the Joneses it seems.

This is awesome. So great to meet you at the Sydney 4WD show and see both Troopies in person. I’m very much looking forward to watching your build. Your Elsie build got me onto your channel and all your work has been a massive influence for us to to buy our first 4WD (coming Nov 🙏🏼) and see Australia. First trip we’re planning is to KI, Flinders and the Red Centre this Dec/Jan with our 4 kiddos. Can’t wait!

Great to see you in a new troopy. I got my second one about eighteen months ago. and i couldn't be happier with it. Its retro four wheeling with a modern motor and a bullet proof drive train. Heres hoping you will have many years of fun and adventures in it.

Congrats on getting a Troopy. I hope you bring it to Radelaide so I can look closely at what you've done with it. At least the Troopy will be much more comfortable and you can now think about doing things such as Cape York and the Canning Stock Route. :)
Canning stock is the first big one we want to do!

I’m in a similar boat.
I went from a ‘84 Hj60 with a 2H to a ‘22 VDJ79 with portals and 300mm.
With sound deadening and suspension work the 79 feels like a luxury SUV compared to the 60. I have no issue with the turning circle and there power on tap.

Old skool practicality, reliability and durability is what it's about imagine getting stuck in deep water crossing in a brand new 300 series to many electronics for something to go wrong... more new features, creature comforts and buttons equals more things to go wrong specially in 15 or 30 years time we'll see if they hold up like the 4wds that are 15 to 30 years old now.
Glad I saw it and Elsie in the flesh at the show last Sunday 👍

Wow ! What a top choice of new car. I am now on my 5th LandCruiser over 50 years - from an FJ 40 to my current 78 Series in Sandy Taupe.
A brilliant car - capable, reliable and a great range between drinks. So looking forward to see what mods you have done.

G'day Matt and Holly. We've been watching you since you originally crossed the country to pick up Elsie. Don't often make comments, but today I can't resist. Congratulations on your new troopy. So good to see both of you so obviously very happy. As with many others here, I'm excited to watch the build of this vehicle. In light of current events, maybe consider Liz as a name, after all, the Queen was known for being a fine driver during the war years. Plus, as you say, it's like a Rolls Royce in comparison. Fit for royalty maybe. Tongue firmly planted in cheek mates.

Matt & Holly followed you guys for a while now & wondered when you were going to upgrade. I had a 47 tray back for a while & they are, as a mate said, just a fast tractor 😂 I know they are hard to come by, but I had hoped you would find a HDJ78 with the 1HD-FTE engine in it. I own a 76 and feel it is a bit of a lemon compared to the previous models. Good luck with your build look forward to seeing it evolve.
The 1HD-FTE are an amazing engine and arguably the best of the landcruisers, but just so expensive…. It’s funny that the new one was almost the economical option 😅
