You can't change the mind of God but you can negotiate. I was seeking a career applying for jobs for two and a half years. This was after I had finished all my studies. I then once prayed and asked, "Even if this is not the plan you have for me, can I please have something a taste or a sample to know what being, in this career would be like.?" I didn't give that request a second thought and really said it out of an honest disheartened frustration. I kept applying to jobs, landed an interview and on completion of the interview was asked when can I start. After working with my new employment for just under a month, I saw the cracks start to appear. I immediately recall my prayer/plead. I knew it wasn't to last. It lasted nine months but by the end of it I no longer wanted to be in that field as it was totally unforfilling in any way. So it wasn't part of His plan for me. I was also thankful to Him for letting me see for myself it was going to be a miserable choice. I guess I'm stubborn.🤔

While Aquintas’ model forfeits pets being in heaven, we need to remember is model is exactly what it is - Only a model. I think pets will be in heaven. If I am wrong, so be it. - Be blessed, brother.
Say what you want, I just don't believe in praying for temporal things. The only type of prayer that makes any sense to me is for one's soul and salvation. Praying for any sort of worldly advancement or benefit seems pointless and fruitless.
Someone should’ve told David that all his petitionary psalms were fruitless. What a waste of time. Kidding you a bit here. Let’s stick to the Catechism and Aquinas on this one. Just for our salvation’s sake.
So then, does that mean that God has willed from eternity that people starve in Africa? I am really trying to understand why some profound suffering is allowed for some people.
We all have to pay for sin in some way be it our sin or someone else's sin. Things are not fair here in a fallen world, we just have to carry our cross the best we can and trust in the Lord. Many great saints suffered dearly throughout their life despite the great works they did and they often welcomed the suffering.
You are likely biased against God for some illegitimate reasons. Now, when I say “Get over it” to you, there is no snarkiness meant. Only real hope. Read Edward Feser’s book 5 Arguments. Or Aquinas, but the Summa is usually a bit much to ask.

I feel like praying is connecting to the divine. It's building a relationship with God which furthers enlightenment.
