      South Korea doesnt recognise North Korea (and vice versa). That means that South Korea regards ALL koreans as lawful citizens of South Korea. It also means that these north koreans will be given the opportunity to choose whether they go to South Korea, where they will be assisted as defectors.
      I believe the situation with the older north korean soldier is a bit more complicated because he has a wife and children. If he goes to south korea theres a good chance he will never see them again. But if he goes back who knows what might happen to him. Its a terrible position for him.

    • @iris1224wwad
      @iris1224wwad 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +25

      @Henu_K Does he really know what he wants? Or feel free to choose if he does? I saw another video in which he said he'll do as he's told. If they tell him to go back, he'll go back. If they tell him to stay, he'll stay. He may just say what he thinks they want to hear out of fear.
      He's never known freedom. The mere thought of free choice may be daunting.

    He is still trying to register what's happening in a foreign world. He is probably feeling confused and numb right now. I could see a documentary in a few years once he realizes how the world is. Then, his story will be compelling for the world to see as a life as a North Korean soldier on a suicide mission.

      Pow's start out disoriented. It is a very isolating experience. They are preoccupied with the circumstances of their capture and their fate. They wonder if they should have held out longer or just died somehow.

    How a country treats prisoners of war tells you everything you need to know about their culture.
    This kid is Hors de combat, he is a prisoner of war. He’s received medical treatment and is in a bed with a clean pillow. If this kid is ever exchanged and survives, he’s hardly going to run around describing his captors as monsters.
    During the Falklands war many Argentine POWs described their treatment by the British as better than the treatment by their own officers. Fresh meals, warm beds etc.
    I’m sure there are individual instances where no quarter is given on the battlefield and heinous things are done in the moment, but culturally I think the way a POW is cared for once they are off the battlefield is the biggest difference between democratic and authoritarian nations.
    I hope Ukraine cares for every POW as best it can and that in the long run it results in an attitude change from ordinary Russians when their soldiers return having been treated well.

      Zelensky can't drag children off the street since mobilization age in ukraine is above 25. Check your facts.
      Or perhaps you believed Prigozjin when he said his mercenaries were fighting old men and children in Bakhmut and this is why it took them 6 months to defeat old people and kids.

      @@akotarakz The West banned Russian media because they said it was propaganda and years later and we still get the same lies from the Western media. Ukraine started with 220 000 NATO trained and funded armed forces ( and you still don't know why Russia invaded ) and three years later they are still fighting. The population of Ukraine was 37 million, this included the the people they were bombing since 2014. If you do the math then who is fighting in Ukraine today?

      @@vidinman Do what maths ? 37 million population. Even if we exclude the ones in russian occupied territories and the ones that left ukraine, there are still people over 25 years that can be drafted. Yes, not that many, this is why UAF are losing ground slowly, because they have less troops and equipment than Russia.
      I don't want to imagine how the war will go if Ukraine adds teenagers and grandfathers in the army, since Wagner + VDV + Spetsnaz couldn't take Bakhmut (one city) half an year from kids and old men, as their commander said on a rooftop video (may he NOT Rest in Peace from the airplane crash).
