South Korea doesnt recognise North Korea (and vice versa). That means that South Korea regards ALL koreans as lawful citizens of South Korea. It also means that these north koreans will be given the opportunity to choose whether they go to South Korea, where they will be assisted as defectors. I believe the situation with the older north korean soldier is a bit more complicated because he has a wife and children. If he goes to south korea theres a good chance he will never see them again. But if he goes back who knows what might happen to him. Its a terrible position for him.

How a country treats prisoners of war tells you everything you need to know about their culture. This kid is Hors de combat, he is a prisoner of war. He’s received medical treatment and is in a bed with a clean pillow. If this kid is ever exchanged and survives, he’s hardly going to run around describing his captors as monsters. During the Falklands war many Argentine POWs described their treatment by the British as better than the treatment by their own officers. Fresh meals, warm beds etc. I’m sure there are individual instances where no quarter is given on the battlefield and heinous things are done in the moment, but culturally I think the way a POW is cared for once they are off the battlefield is the biggest difference between democratic and authoritarian nations. I hope Ukraine cares for every POW as best it can and that in the long run it results in an attitude change from ordinary Russians when their soldiers return having been treated well.

Actually I didn't think that was allowed under the Geneva convention, to post propaganda. Using a POW , 52 yrs ago I had the class in basic training.
