"You remember smiling. Open your lips. Show your teeth." Sweet scene in a sweet and under-rated film. Long before the Marvel/DC stuff, Robert Downey, Jr. was an amazing actor. He has been quoted as having said that of all the films he made, this is one of his favorites.

You should see him in Weird Science circa 1985. I think it’s his first film.... he’s pubescent and just plain old Robert Downey in that. He’s also fabulous and youthful in Natural Born Killers and Ally McBeal, where he sings too. Fun fact - he had special privileges to be released from jail to film Ally McBeal and it relaunched/reignited his acting career x
This is probably one of my favorite parts. The other two being when Thomas does the national anthem before the concert, and the other when Penny possess Thomas to hug his son after he sings "Mr Hug a Bug Bear"
"Mr. Hug-a-Bug, Hug-a-Bug, Hug-a-Bug Bear If you try to find him *pop* he won't be there but if you're feeling blue, and a little bit scared he'll be right beside you, Mr. Hug-a-Bug Bear"
Billy grew up with Resentment and Grief over not being told what happened to his Mother and how she perished. When Thomas has to elaborate to Officer Billy Washington where his Siblings went and how much Penny loved her little son, it brought pain into his heart. That bitterness and grief. But Penny was so overjoyed to know that all of her children were alright and to learn that her Billy had gotten married, had a daughter of his own and was now a Deputy Sheriff, that she realized that she could rest in peace. Milo Died with Remorse and Guilt. He was a Petty Cat Burglar. But he had a GOOD heart and tried to take back stealing those Heirloom Stamps after he realized how much they really meant to that little boy. when the boy told him "You Stink Mister" It broke Milo's heart. Milo was literally haunted for 33 years by what he had done and felt that the only way he could have peace and go on to Heaven. You can see the ELATION and joy Milo had when they recovered the Stamps and he discovered in 1992 that the little boy had grown up, and was now a Husband and Father, The Now Middle Aged Father got the shock of his life that he had been waiting for since '59: The Stamps had been returned mysteriously. Milo realized he didn't need to personally apologize to the kid(Its something that he felt like he SHOULD have done this whole time), but that the Kid eventually grew up and FORGAVE him for stealing the Stamps because he got older realizing that Milo TRIED To take it back and return them. That's why he was so Overjoyed to see the Stamps returned mysteriously. Harrison was straightforward. To Quote Thomas: "You died of Failure because you never tried". He had Stage fright. That's it. Julia's was the most heartbreaking. She LOVED John dearly and was beyond STUNNED when he had proposed to her and asked her to marry him. She had just gotten Cold Feet. She didn't know how to react. She felt Angry because all she did was just try to think it over and make her decision "YES. I'll marry you John" and died before she got a chance to give him her decision. The Resolution was absolutely tragic for her. Because she learned just how much her untimely demise had haunted and destroyed John. He Was so HEARTBROKEN and Grief Stricken that he NEVER married, Never had any kids, and that he had dedicated 26 years of his life to the Farm Land he had purchased. Hiring friends and Farmhands to help tend it. He Mourned Julia for a Quarter of a Century never able to get over her because he loved her so much, before dying of Cancer likely in his 50s in 1985 and leaving the Farm Land to one of his most trusted Ranchers in his Will. Julia didn't even get a Happy Ending. It was WORSE for her than she thought. Her heart was now broken, too. That's why Thomas was so upset and angry. Julia then decided to tell Thomas that She maid a foolish decision that ruined her and John's life,Love and Future together that haunted the both of them. She realized that she should have been bold enough to say "YES" right from the get go and told Thomas: "Don't let Ellen get away like I let John get away. Don't make the Same Mistake, I did."
This is funny and fun but also touching because it's like Thomas was that kid again that he lost when he became a heartless banker. Them coming back into his life brought back his heart and soul (pun intended lol)
I could... then I remember that I got taste. Thats some cheap fan service, comic book shinanigans. RDJ during this time period shits on today. This movie, Chaplin & Zodiac all are way better movies than any he is in now. FACT
@@hambino28 Agreed. I wouldn't want any of those Marvel people to have anything to do with these classic scenes. Now that RDJ has left Marvel hopefully it dies off so we can get great films at the cinema again instead of on streaming services.
From ages 3 to about 10, I watched a VHS recording of this film 5 times a week. Rocky Horror too. This reminds me of my childhood (the rare, happy parts of it!) 🥰
It wasn't really them signing, it was an acapella group called The Dapper Dans. However, Robert Downey Jr ACTUALLY sang the national anthem in that movie.
Ya gotta love angels who can belt out classic Rock... "...these holy beings have sanctified themselves from every human limitation, have become endowed with the attributes of the spiritual,.." ~‘Abdu’l-Bahá, Baha'i Faith
My older brother took me to see this the weekend it came out loved it then and love it now still one of my favorites because it will make you feel every emotion possibly in just the right amount
Robert Downey has a great career going for him before drugs and alcohol became a problem in 90’s. He fell down and came back. Read his history. This man came along way but his acting has always been on point. Even in Chaplin and Chances are
It was a reference to Captain America: Civil War. Alfre Woodard (the black actress) was also in that movie. Her character confronts Tony Stark near the beginning of the movie about the death of her son who was collateral damage during their battle with Ultron.
This movie needs to have a musical stage play.
Oooooo! I never thought of that!! Yes! :)
Oooh yes pleaseeeee

I love the subtlety of RDJ slowly starting to care more and more about each character's plight.
R.I.P. Charles Grodin (1935-2021) (Harrison Winslow) and Tom Sizemore (1961-2023) (Milo Peck).
may god forgive their sin.
They're F*cking dead?!
🥺
I was gonna say that but you beat me to it especially when Sizemore starts off the Singing kinda made it a lil Emotional
I love how reluctantly RDJ's character joins them.
Also, holy shit is RDJ young in this! He looks so teensy!
He looks so hot.

@@victoriawoods3900 But during Ally Mcbeal he got in trouble again and had to leave the show, which broke my heart! I loved him with Ally! :(
He's always been great

now penny hates tony becoz her son died .. just kidding

I miss when movies were sweet and wholesome
My mom loved this movie she passed away last year I will never forget her singing this to me as a young boy 🥹🙏🏾❤️
My mom also loved this movie. She passed away in 2021. May your mom rest in peace.
I wish they had a full version of this song
Jesus i was 2 when this movie came out but i remember watching it a lot, literally brings tears to my eyes life is short.
❤❤❤❤
one of the best movie i ever seen
this is the most wholesome moment in cinema history
This is funny and fun but also touching because it's like Thomas was that kid again that he lost when he became a heartless banker. Them coming back into his life brought back his heart and soul (pun intended lol)
Favorite part in the whole movie! ^____^
I know right it reminds me of the beetles when the walk across the road
Abby road 😂
proof that tony Stark really has a heart.
Avengers Endgame 😳😨😊😊💗
Fun fact - the actress that played Penny played the Mom of the boy that died who confronted Tony Stark in Captain America Civil War.
It’s a shame that Julia, Milo, Harrison, and Penny lost their special friend
...and souls. snort.
AWWWWWWW
Can you imagine if RDJ re-enacted this scene with Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner and Scarlett Johansson...it would make me so happy!
It would be perfect for him to do now as iron man after the snap as a final send off
Mark Ruffalo?
Omg just thinking that especially cause Penny was in Avengers Civil War

I love this movie I'm not going to lie they all deserve a Oscar for this
Loved this movie. Milo was my favorite character. Too bad he had to leave so early in the film. The rest of the cast was great also.
Charles missed the choreography lessons but was one of the best comedians ever.
From ages 3 to about 10, I watched a VHS recording of this film 5 times a week. Rocky Horror too.

This is one of my favorite scenes of all time :):) miss these Robert downer jr days lol. So great
Me too! loved this movie so much when I was younger. RDJ was a fave of mine long before Iron Man too
This is my second favorite part of the movie, my first is when Julia gets to hug Thomas.
I would have loved to watch them sing and dance to the entire song. Just once!
These 5 need to do an official cover of the entire song
Right,It's a shame two of them were recently taken by the bus: Charles Grodin and Tom Sizemore
It wasn't really them signing, it was an acapella group called The Dapper Dans. However, Robert Downey Jr ACTUALLY sang the national anthem in that movie.
Very nice singing voice, that RDJ.
Pajusa101 you should see the rest of the movie
One of my favorite scenes from the movie. I loved Tom Sizemore in it so much, I had almost forgotten Robert Downey Jr. was in it.
Such an underrated movie
No one makes movies like this anymore😔
I remember loving this movie growing up!

Isn't she also Mariah Dillard in Luke Cage? I thought the MCU and Netflix universes were connected. How can she be two different characters
My kids knows RDJ as Iron Man but this is how I remembered RDJ
I want a remake of this movie with either Ryan Reynolds or Tom Holland as the lead!
Yees hahah Robert Downey Junior can also sing he has a album it calls "The futurist" *-*
he sings on Ally McBeal too
What are you doing, Tony Stark?!!! 😏
