  • If you knew you were going to be stranded in the woods what knife would you bring?
You know the one. That knife that you always want to have on you but it’s too big to carry every day without feeling like a dumbass. But if you’re stuck in the woods somewhere that’s the one on your hip.
That was the idea behind this Sapper knife. Imri wanted to incorporate some capabilities in this design that would lend themselves to some of the skills he had gained over the years but still have it be a solid bush knife. Big enough to hack and split but also good at some gentler whittling. Stays glued to the hand no matter what.
As a first collaboration with Tim Kell from TKell Knives it couldn’t have gone better. Tim made some smart changes and added some of his bad ass unique features.
Enough said. You’ll get it when you’re holding one.
Available for pre-order only at Tkellknives.com
    Specs:
    • Full Tang Fixed Blade
    • 12” overall length
    • 6” cutting edge
    • 1.5" wide blade
    • 5.5" grip
    • Fingerguards front and back accommodate high grip or chopping (pinky)
    • Pommel shape is optimized to comfortably nest in the base of the palm and be held by a pinky/ring finger
    • Reinforced tip
    • 3/16" thick 60 HRC cryogenically treated AEB-L Steel
    • 3 hole lashing screws for different lashing options
    • Etched line from tip to the handle to help visualize tip contact underground
    • Balance point just ahead of guard, making it a great chopper
    • Safe finger choil for higher grip (delicate cutting)
    • G10 scales cover all contact surfaces with hand
    • NiB T1C clad for extreme durability
    • Matte grey finish for clandestine OPS

Not usually a fan of self promoting, but when it comes from a channel I trust, 👍. Just saw the knife is sold out, but would love to pick one up when they come back in stock.
Currently have an ESEE Laser Strike thats a total workhorse. Has a drop point style blade but would like to pick something with better defensive (or offensive) capabilities.

I can afford pricey knives, but knives are just tools to me, not collectibles, so I stop at about $100 when I'm buying a fixed-blade. Even then, I usually have to drop a little more, say $40 or so, on a really good kydex sheath, because for some reason, a lot of decent knife makers don't do the sheath as well as the knife.

As a knife maker this is an excellent design, well thought out and Tim talking you into 3/16" was absolutely correct. I've had people ask for 1/4" on knives I make and I never get the edge I want. I've got to a point of not offering 1/4" for knives unless a very specific chopper with a much wider bevel being used. The retention system for what you're looking for is extremely well done. I do adjustable retention on sheath and it's a different style but I have to say any sheath that is going to be getting used heavily should have a way to tighten the lock up. I even offer a level 2 retention locking system with thumb break for some special order clients in SWAT/LE snipers and my Mil/Contractors clients working in high threat environments.
Big kudos on this knife. I can say it's probably more well thought out than a nearly any production knife on the market. I do agree with Tim on 1095. I understand wanting edge retention and rust resistance. I use 1095 and the HRC I treat to keeps a solid edge. For corrosion resistance I do cerakote finishes on my knives. This gives a great match to your kit and helps reduce glare off a blade. Your finish does as well. I love AEB-L I've just had some issues with warping of the blades in heat treat prior to temper coming out of a plate quench even. Edge is awesome and rust resistant is killer. Absolutely well done. I know some makers would look to find a flaw in a blade to sell their own, not me. That's a very well made knife with a plan and purpose for everything. Literally the only concern/issue I potentially saw, you addressed and that's sharpening of the recurve in the field. Which is doable just a slight learning curve but not impossible at all.

As a knife maker with no connection to these guys or Tkell I can say steel is up 3-5x in the last 3 years. AEB-L jumped probably closer to 5x and 1095 I use is around 3.6x early 2020 prices.
G10, up double or more. Same with machine parts, belts, glue, hardware and even Kydex. I can say the design of this, the attention to detail and it being handmade. $375 for a knife that will likely hold an edge for a year of decent use and overall outlast you is pretty good.
My pieces run around 300 without a recurve in that size in 1095. Recurve sharpening and grinding is more complex, hitting that center line grind takes skill and its well thought out. I personally have no gripes on the knife or price. I understand It's a steep price tag but you're paying for materials but also a US made knife that was made by a skilled tradesmen. To do grinds like that and have that crisp of details to the grinds. That's 100s of hours behind a grinder to hone those skills. It's support for American small businesses and skilled trades that will die with chineseum knives taking over this market. I compete with Chinese junk daily and it never lasts

looks awesome, but the main design feature is actually real dangerous. No body in his right mind would use a metal blade to probe for mines. First of all because it can pierce the rubber cap on ap mines burried at an angle (an action to prevent probing...) and set them of. Even more dangerous is IED under or next to (ap)mines like a pressureplate. The metal knive would be the actual switch connecting the plus and minus and set it off. And of course dulling a sharp edge for this purpose is just dumb when every sapper get issued an mine probe with non ferrous tip
