    Precision is queen here and I appreciate your precise explanations and methods of measuring/cutting/sewing. These leader cloths will definitely keep the quilt straight and the quilting better aligned on the top. Thank you for the helpful information!

    Thank you for the info. I just acquired a Cutie frame, and didn't realize until afterwards I needed leader clothes, which are quite expensive. I figured I could certainly make some for a whole lot less, so knowing what's needed and best approach is very helpful.

    The selvage goes along length of table?
    If you want more than 42 - 45" wide sew pieces together with feld seam.

    I wanted to see how you attatch to roller.. slip it over? how does it stay put?

    • @quiltingonathread
      @quiltingonathread  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The leader cloth (or the quilt body) will attach to different frames according to the frame.
      For hooping frames, clip the leader of body onto the frame rail, using the blue clips provided with the frames.
      For rolling frames, the leaders (you'll always use leaders) attach using Velcro or thin pipes that secure into the rails in the slot in the rail. The attachment medium (Velcro or pipes) is usually supplied with the frame based on the rail type.

    Just curious, did you find that the 12 inch leader cloth that you made originally was inadequate? I’m thinking 16 might be too deep. What are your thoughts ?

    • @quiltingonathread
      @quiltingonathread  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@rosalielongo589 12" is usually sufficient.

  • @BBsummers
    @BBsummers 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I hope I’m not repeating a question already asked, but what is the reason you mark “and then every 4 inches after that”?

    • @quiltingonathread
      @quiltingonathread  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I mark the center and every 4" on each side to assist in centering my quilts as they are attached to the leader cloth. These markings then are used to center the leader cloth and quilt as I am hooping into the frame.

    • @quiltingonathread

    Do you ever take your leader cloths off after you get several rows down your quilt top…I saw someone do this and she says it alleviated some of the bulk in her quilt under the top clips.

    • @quiltingonathread
      @quiltingonathread  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes...if there is too much bulk, I would definitely do that.

    I am new to quilting on a cutie and am putting my hoop together now. I want to make my leader cloths and your video was so clear. I have one question though, you used painters cloth. So is this a fabric you can buy by the yard or is it painters drop cloth.

    • @quiltingonathread
      @quiltingonathread  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The first set was made from a clean drop cloth we had around the house. I don't recall where we bought it, but you would want a sturdy cotton drop cloth. It's not something I know about whether it's sold by the yard...my husband purchased it years ago. The set I had in the video was made from ticking cloth, easily available by the yard.
      You just want a sturdy, medium-weight cotton that will not stretch (broadcloth, heavy ticking, cotton upholstry etc.).

    Would you recommend adding the cording for the top and bottom leaders? I’m making my first set and starting with the big size (12’)
    Does it help a lot or add too much bulk?
    Thanks for the helpful advice and demonstration in your video!

    • @quiltingonathread
      @quiltingonathread  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some people like the cords others do not. My 11ft long set have the cords in permanently. My 4ft long set has a cord that I can put in or take out as needed. The cords make rolling a larger piece easier for me.
      I recommend bring able to add a cord, if you need it...versatility.
