Hi Kelly. We’re in Sullivan County, NY. I have a couple of suggestions: if you take your new root ball and immerse it completely in water for 30 seconds or so, you take out all the built up air which blocks future watering. It gets pretty cold in the Catskills in late October, November so the ground is hard to dig (clay soil). If you pre dig your hole in your chosen location during the summer it makes transplanting much easier. Thank you for a very well presented video. Pablo
This was awesome Kelly. Lucy is gorgeous btw! I just put my hydrangeas in the ground today, (End of September in Michigan. They were in the pot far too long this summer & Flowers crisped out & All new green foliage grew back. This is when I put them in the ground. I pray that they do well!!
The Great Northwest Everett WA my first year serious gardening I fell in love with all my beautiful Lillie's and Dalhias this past summer along with my 2 purchased hydrangeas
We're watching from Seattle, WA and it's mid-September. We are about to outplant a few hydrangeas later today! Thank you for a great video -- clear, to the point, but also Lucy and your blooper reel gave us a laugh :)
Thank you for your videos I think you are a horticulturist genius I can sit and watch you for hours and since I've done it my flowers are much better my hydrangeas are doing perfect and all I can say is thank you

Tacoma, Washington here. Thanks for all your hydrangea tips. Moved into a house a couple years ago with 2 big leaf hydrangea that had not received water or care for who knows how long. Now they are so full and blooming like crazy, but need to be pruned to allow for air circulation. Just picked up a limelight hydrangea, so this video is perfectly timed.
Thank you for the video, I am from Seaside Park NJ. I found snowball hydrangeas at Walmart for $6 and I bought 2 of them. Now I will play as you taught.
Hi, l am in Hammond, IN. I planted a bloomstruck hydrangea, a pinky winky hydrangea and a pink hydrangea. The 1st one is the best, the other two are smaller & hardly performed at all. My favorite flowers are hydrangeas. I would like to plant a hydrangea tree next year. Learned a lot from your videos, thank you!
I found your video very helpful, thank you. We are in Virginia City NV, at 6,200 feet. I bought the exact hydrangea from Amazon also. However, it arrived late and now Mother Nature is threatening freezing weather next week. I’m torn between planting and wrapping or attempting to grow it in a pot inside. It is my all time favorite plant and therefore overthink things. Again, thank you for your lovely video
I live in central NY. and I love big leaf Hydrangeas. I have about 20 of them that I've had for about 5 yrs. The problem is it gets cold here in the winter. They grow very nice but this year I got 2 blooms out of the 20 plants. The cold pretty much kills last years growth and thusly the buds and the plants grow fresh from the ground each year. So I'm extremely jealous of your beautiful blue full plants.

I'm in southern ontario. I'm nuts about gardening. I'm transplanting some hydrangeas and that's where I thought of putting them facing south. Our group takes care of the church garden and we have tons of work in progress. Thanks for the good information. God bless.
I love your pink hydrangeas 👏🌸 However, since you said you like blue blooms, here is some hydrangea bloom color changing information I found online that will help How do you control hydrangea color? Hydrangeas are unique in that you can control their color. But keep in mind, not all hydrangea types are capable of color adjustments. Bigleaf hydrangeas, H. macrophylla, react to changes in soil pH. A low soil pH allows hydrangeas to absorb aluminum, which turns the flowers a beautiful blue color. To increase blue hydrangea flowers, lower your soil pH by adding sulfur or peat moss to the soil. You can also add additional aluminum sulfate to your soil throughout the growing season. Pink and red flowers shine when you add ground limestone to increase the pH. A soil pH test can help you accurately adjust your hydrangea color. Avoid pH levels above 7.5 to prevent damage to the plant. No matter what adjustments you’ve made, all hydrangeas will naturally fade in the fall. Don’t worry - the plant will showcase fresh, colorful blooms again in the spring. Source ➡️ gilmour.com/hydrangea-care#Hydrangea-Care-Tips There are a variety of products on the market today that can raise or lower the PH to help you get the desired colored here are some links to what they are ➡️ www.amazon.com/dp/B0063ZDTI6/?ref=exp_kellylehman_dp_vv_mw ➡️ www.amazon.com/dp/B0063ZDQ66/?ref=exp_kellylehman_dp_vv_mw
Thank you for your hydrangea videos. We are from PNW Seattle WA area. I have a hydrangea I am trying to remember if its a Mophead hydrangea or not. Right now it's blooming beautiful light blue and white blossoms. We live in apartments and have it planted in a large pot but wondering if we need a bigger pot. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Happy planting & blessings 🌸
I have faith I can sucxessfully plant mine this fall. The one in my back yard took 5 years to give me more than one bloom. Probably not a good location. Lexington, Ky
I'm replanting in Atlanta. I planted in big pots last fall so I could find their happy place. Will planting them in the soil this year stunt their blooms for another year?
Another great and informative video. Your instruction on how to plant hydrangea is very clear, concise, and easy to follow. I learn so much from watching your video. And Lucy is a such a sweet companion! Thank you so much, for sharing your wealth of knowledge on gardening.
I am in awe of your knowledge and love of your gardens. I get most of my plants from frients as family as cutting or thinnings so most of the time I have know idea what I am really getting but normally have great success with growing them but no idea of what I have. I love them anyway. They would probably do better if I had knowledge of what they were. Sometimes I can generally figure it out but not exactly. By trial and error I keep them going. I live in Nashville, Tennessee which is generally a pretty mild place to garden by the seat of your pants. I share my plantings with anyone who will take some and share my little knowledge and pick their brain for what they may know. Which for the most part is like me lots of bits and pieces from here and there. I am learning alot from your videos and really enjoy them. One question: how do you control your Rose of Sharon from spreading everywhere? I have put at least a million in pots to give to anyone. They are beautiful but I only have so much room and can only coax so many people into taking them off my hands. I tell you sometimes giving away free plants is harder than giving away free kittens. And its not just Rose of Sharon but that's probably the hardest. It's hard for me to kill plants. My plants get really old (kinda like me) and I just let them be but I don't have much space. So if I can keep them from multiplying that would help. Thanks for your love and knowledge of plants and of course your sharing. We'll chat again I'm sure. Sharon
Hello from Sydney! Thank you so much for the wonderful video! Going to plant our hydrangea in this early summer. We have purchased for a week, and had a difficult time to plant in soil or pot. Thank you!

it's so true, the first year after placing the pots under a verranda, I planted the huge plastic pot in the ground under a tree and sure enough, it is blooming profusely. The other reason it didn't bloom the first year may be due to aggressive pruning in the dead of winter.
Hi, we're in Menifee CA. Thank you for your video. We're new Hydrangea fans and we're thinking of filling our new home backyard with them. Purchased a couple wide leaf one's at Home Depot and are in the process of picking a good spot for them. Thanks again.

Dear Kelly, I live in NW Arkansas in a town called Garfield. We have 33 2 to 3yr old Hydrangeas that would be in their “leap” time. We had a rough go in Spring with Rust or powdery mildew from our rainy season but made it through. All of our shrubs have plenty of circulation around each of them, thanks to my hubby who did all the digging. Soon it will be time to put them to bed for the Winter. Do you have any suggestions on how to protect them during our (6B) Winter dormancy? This is our 3rd year of enhancing our landscape. We hope to begin propagation of our Hydrangea in Spring along with a few other flowering plants. We are having a great time working with our Hydrangeas and watching them mature into various types of Hydrangea blooms. Next year we will choose a few Hydrangea to bloom more blues. Hi! Watching you from central North Carolina. I bought a Hydrangea but it is already blooming and it is currently fall. Someone recommended I cut off the flowers prior to planting it to encourage the roots to grow. Any advice for a new plant dad?
