I grew up watching Ben on TV and in film in Australia. I'm not surprised he's doing well in the States now. It's been a long time coming. Animal Kingdom showed people in the States what he can do as we Aussies already knew he was amazing.
So true. Fell in love with Ben in his early films such as Spotswood and The Big Steal, both are among some of my favourites and I still go back and watch them every now and then. My son was the spitting image of Ben when he was growing up so much so that people would mention the similarity all the time. Just to see Ben’s name on something is enough for me to go watch it.
Great interview as always! Mendelsohn is an absolute treasure. He not only seems like such a cool, warm fellow. But no matter whether his role is big or small, he always delivers and his love for his craft always shines through on screen. It's amazing that even though he's been acting for nearly 30 years, he hasn't lost his enthusiasm for it.
Ben is pretty intense! Always respected the great Ozzie actors and Ben is high up there. Starred Up and Animal Kingdom especially - yet to see Misissipi Grind but looking forward to it!
I fell in love with him in Tangle: never knew who he was till this year! I was like “this dude is going to be a big star someday” LOL... little did I know. now I am finding all his old stuff online.
I thought exactly the same thing. Ben Mendelsohn is a real star and he’s only rising to the top. He does not look like he’s acting he’s very real and I’m crazy about him, Debra Bader
Just watch this film the other day. Wow! Never knew it even existed. Where have this film been in my life. Ben Mendelsohn is f-ing awsome in this film! Ryan Reynolds is great! Those two chemistry is fantastic! Love it.
In regards to that bit about Liam Neeson, I'd argue that The Grey is a way better film than Michael Collins and easily Neeson's finest work since Schindler's List. It was a personal film for him, and if you've seen it you'll know why. I hate this sniffy attitude that people had towards it because they assumed the film was "Neeson fights wolves". It was much deeper than that. And time is being kinder to the legacy of The Grey. It's a fucking great movie! Also, back on topic, Ben Mendelsohn is one of the most interesting actors in the business right now and Mississippi Grind is a perfect example of his talent. Another underrated film.
One of the best actors working today in my opinion. The guy just has a unique presence
Ben seems really genuine. Comes across very humble and polite, he is a also a class act performance wise.

+creature57 That film lifted many careers it seems.

I really liked his part in place beyond the pines. Great actor.
“He’s one of those actors who is endlessly fascinating to watch” : it is exactly that
Exactly, he rules every single scene he is in. I cannot wait to see him and other movies, Debra Bader

One of my favorite actors. Found him in Bloodline.
Killing Them Softly. Ben has a medium role but OWNS every scene he is in and after it finishes, his is the role that endures.
I love Mendelsohn in Knowing. His American accent is insanely good. I didn't know he wasn't American until after I saw the movie.
Loved his work in Mississippi Grind. He seems like a pretty down-to-Earth guy.

Well done Ben. He's been on Australian screens for a lot of years. Good to see him getting recognised world wide.
One of the best actors in the business by far
Loved him in Bloodline ❤️

Mississippi Grind introduced me to this talented individual.
Ben Mendelsohn A legend!
i love this man
love this guy
fucking legend
you should've asked him, *"...do you feel in charge?"*
Great movie, great actor. First decent poker related movie since Rounders that I can think of.

Lovely interview!
the man is a lifeforce!
What a charismatic bastard 😂
He really nailed that role.
Thank you DP
They start talking about Mississippi Grind at 20:14 FFS
Ben actually talks and sounds like a younger version of the great John Meillon.
I call Ben Australia’s De Niro.
Ben Mendelsohn: "Master of Angst"
Gosh his American accent is so good, his real voice now sounds fake
I love this man
