  • A small demo to show some ideas for stretching, strengthening the lower basin kua area and springing the waist. Followed by basic Yue Jia San Shou for understanding mechanics, body structure, qin-na and flow of both people. Yue Family style has a unique approach to controling and flowing, with heavy influences in usage of what today is considered internal/external arts. As always these skills and Qin na or chin na are tools in ones arsenal of tools. I hope everyone enjoys objectively.

I would've loved to practice chin na and I would've loved to have a teacher like him

Mike Martello is the man! He's the real deal. There are many people in the US that are venerated as "masters" and have no clue of body mechanics, breath, intention, alignment - nothing.
Laoshr Martello puts all these guys to shame.

sad to loose someone like mike because there are few out there like him.
it is now up to his students to carry the banner in his absence.

Mike will probably correct me if I'm wrong, but that's only if you're supporting the weight with the knee, which he's not. There's a lot more going on there that you can't see, support from the pelvic girdle, suspension from the spine etc etc. In other words, its more than just a "stretch." That whole "dont put your knee past your foot" is only for beginners that don't know how to properly support the body yet.

Man, he died? He replied to a message I sent him on TH-cam asking about stretching progression and he was so nice and seemed like a very patient teacher! RIP

    A Humble Pie... you're welcome!
There is always something new to learn but, you just "get it".
You have sought out the people who can teach you "truth" and not something that resembles truth.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic, but Mike passed away in 2009. As far as his knees go, he had some of the strongest and flexible knees around. A lot of recent western fitness "wisdom" has been changing their minds about the old adage of not letting the knees pass the toes etc. Now they think they invented the knowledge. lol.

if you bounce at all you create little tears in the muscle eventually causing them to rip, you go as far as you can hold it for 10 seconds and try going further, thats a safer way of streatching

    34thshaolinstudent-
its funny you call those shaolin folk "notorious", which means well-known in a negative way. rather than "famous", which means well-known in a positive way.
