Very under rated. Simon La Bon and Nick Rhodes definitely made Arcadia work before going back to Duran Duran. I was very little when this all came about, and I still love listening to it today. Pure mastery.
To be honest it IS the 4th Duran album and it's silly why many still don't see and hear it as such. After all, if it's NOT a Duran album just cos 2 members aren't apparently there (though John is in the video briefly for the 1st single) then neither is half or more of their catalogue. This is REALLY called Duran Duran: "Arcadia: So Red The Rose" and a massive upturn after the disappointment that was the dopey and off "Seven And Ragged Tiger". There, I said it.
One of my favourites from this iconic album. I can still remember the very first time listening to S.R.T.R. and where I was. Scary to think it was all those years ago. Happy days indeed !!! Tanx for uploading, by the way !!!
Man I forgot how good this song was on this album. It was one of the songs I kept playing over and over. lol rewinding on my cassette player back in November of 1985
What do you mean by that? This was 4ish years after Duran Duran (the 1981 album) and Andy Taylor and Simon Le Bon joined the band in 1980. Plus there's plenty guitar in this song, and throughout the tracks on So Red the Rose. Either Masami Tsuchiya or Carlos Alomar would be my guess on this track, but David Gilmour also did some guitar work on the album. Duran Duran was originally Stephen Duffy, Nick Rhodes and John Taylor, who plays both guitar and bass. So even back in 1978 there was guitar involved. In 1979 Simon Colley (who played bass) and Roger Taylor joined, before they switched things up with Andy Taylor & Le Bon putting John Taylor on bass duties. Is there something I don't know? I'm genuinely curious, and I need to know!
Duran Duran built their sound around synt and bass .. it always dominated their songs .. yes it is 4 years after the original but Rhodes was building a sound that was similar to the beginning.. Andy Taylor added a more rock driven dynamic when he joined the band .. especially in Rio .. in SATRT his guitar sound was less prominent..
I always loved this song!!!
