Much as this video reminds people of the eponymous gh06 head I think it would help if videos like this could cover some fundamental considerations when choosing a tripod and head. Light legs are meaningless and counter productive if a large fluid head is going to be used. First humping it around, it’s the head that weighs the most. Once you balance your fx9 on your head the advantages of counterbalance and fluid movement go out the window if the legs aren’t solid and secure. Ideally sand bagged. Likewise the feet and spreader become very important to help this stability. Ground spreader and put your bag on it helps. Imo no one in the known world has ever preferred screw to clip releases to adjust legs. It’s shocking that it’s taken this long for manufacturers to get this. Lastly the classic line of invest in a great tripod it will last you for years should be consigned to the dustbin of misleading cliche. Firstly I cannot see how the prices of professional tripods can ever be justified. It’s just machined metal. Considering the cost of an OConnor 2575d it’s the price of a small car. Surely no one is saying that there is more complex machinery in that 9 inch lump of metal than in a car?!? Scalable production sure I get it but seriously the prices of that or dolly’s are truly a scandal. Meanwhile In the world of bowl design surely the sachtler aktiv range and the deluge of qr release plates from manfrotto et al means that tripod design is surely well overdue for an entire redesign of its philosophy and functionality. It’s kind of depressing that things really haven’t moved on in an affordable and functional way from the gh06 release over 5 years ago?! The video is appreciated as always but this seems an example where retailers have to push manufacturers to be better and more affordable otherwise products just never progress.
Fair comments! These videos are meant to be a "quick look" though and I try and keep them under 5 minutes. Also, not every design needs to be constantly re-done. We regularly sell some products which were designed many years ago. Sennheiser 416 microphone (40 years old!) is a classic example. Many people are still using a decent tripod from 10 years ago and its still serving them well. Carl
If you have the budget, I'd recommend to go a step up. I have been using the Miller Compass CX 2 with Miller Solo Q sticks and these have been absolutely amazing. You'd have the option to add a 'touch and go' plate, and you'd have of the best and quickest sticks on the market. The Sachtler Flowtech 75 legs are very nice too, but are a bit bulky to carry compared to the Miller Solo sticks. They are super nice to adjust with the latches though. These are absolute gems for smaller cameras (from 0 - 8 kg) and will last you for decades. One of the best camera-related purchases I ever did, once I got over the price of the initial investment.
The Sachtler Ace M is the smaller version of the Ace XL which I do mention here. Its a fantastic head, but I do pick up the Gh06f instead of it, mainly because of the higher friction at level 3 for slow pans. What do you prefer about the Ace M ?
@@carlyates2487 My regrets that I missed your mention of the Ace XL, which is only slightly more robust than my Ace M and thus (evidently) offering less friction than the GH06F to your tastes. My main concern is being able to counterbalance even the lightest-weight camera, and the Ace M is optimized for that lowest range as a medium-duty video head. I certainly also prefer the design/look of the Sachtler and of course its brand reputation; I don't mind and actually prefer the (lighter) plastic parts.
That the gh06 and ifootage is the exact combo I have, great value, not too heavy.
Excellent! Good to hear

Really helpful. Thank you. Have just bought one from you!
Can you review SCG T8 in the future?
Hi, great video, how do you attach the fastbowl to the GHo6, I have this combination, do I unscrew the six bolts at the bottom of the GH06?
I wish E-Image would make this head with the option to add a 2nd handle.
These don't appear to be sold in the USA. Just the gh06. Can we purchase through you?
No way of flipping it to do vertical format footage?
1:22 - Well that does not seem to be set up very well. It should not move at all when you let go of the handle.
That FX9 rig was meant to show the maximum payload it could counterbalance, and yes it was just just over, hence why it moves.
The C70 is looking sexy here with a cine lens on it
I ignored carls advice and got a 504x and every day I think about how silly I was. Not been a fan of the 504x
Well what can I say!

Suspicious omission here to not mention the Sachtler M line of competing tripods (arguably better).

GH6 + GH06F
Matches very well with small cameras like the GH6
Plus the similarity in the names is quite pleasing....
Fluid heads are overpriced asf
