I had to do the external door reveals to my garage, I just happened to get the reminder for this new video and just happened to watch it before I did the render.. I had some SBR from the past in my shed, read the instructions (1 part SBR to 2 parts cement) and made up a cement paste which closely resembled floor levelling compound. My door reveal had them stupid plastic cavity closers with no strength however using this stuff on them and some expanded metal lathe I can safely say my render went on fine and stuck. Did it in 2 coats, but having never done external render before after watching this video I became more confident and gave it my best shot. A good video, came just in time, thanks 👍👍👍
Mate , I’ve had another look at your channel, you’re such a diverse guy. You cover so many subjects, your presenting and editing skills are really good, and, you have a go at plastering. I find plastering is one of those areas that general builders do not touch, but you my friend, have taken that on, and are at a competent level with it, great channel , lots to learn here. Great job fella! Many thanks Andy
I haven't used SBR for too long but it amazes me how well it sticks with cement as a slurry. Once it's gone off there is no separating it from whatever you stick it to.
There’s a balance between strength and flexibility on substrates and varying hard standings. I always liked 3:1 then 4:1 with Sika 1. The plastering guy you showed lays on skim to dry sbr. I would not recommend that method as once dry it creates a barrier. Nice to see you laid on to wet sbr Nigel.
Another vote for SBR here Rodger, I always use it if customers want a suspended timber floor tiled, never had any callbacks.................yet!! ATB from J and H Builders
Hello. Thank you for the upload! I actually had no idea that there was this agent that you could use as an intermediate layer between masonry and some other material. Is this how they stucco light wooden frame residential homes? Like once the plywood is on the frame, do they put this stuff on plywood to make the masonry stick? But how does the moisture membrane fit between that?
I don’t use anything else. Bonding, waterproofing etc. I had a customer with an underground outhouse where when it rained hard water would come through the bricks. I did x2 coats of 50/50 SBR cement, no sign of water or damp ever again. I once had a splatter of it on my old van and I just couldn’t get it off 😂. It’s the do all additive. PVA just doesn’t compare.
Hi can you advise me what would be the best to do, i am changing a 1300 x 700 rad but can't find one that size so would it be best to fit a 1300 x 600 or a 1200 x 700 thanks Stuart.
For the same heat output, have you considered a double or even triple rad? You can look online and every manufacturer will give you a BTU output for a rad, which you can use to compare the rads. Hope this helps
Perhaps I'm a bit dim or uninformed. In South Africa, any form of covering something with a cement mixture is generally called plastering. What is the difference between rendering and plastering?
I'm not a builder, but I think rendering would be a more durable material like concrete, more waterproof to the environment amd so its excellent on external walls. Plastering definitely is not so strong or robust but so could get a smoother, better finish. So plastering would be used for internal walls where damp is not going to be an issue. Base material would be something like gypsum.
Back in my day, we'd just lick the walls and then render. That was when men had proper saliva of course, filled with grit and faeces, not like today's molly coddled woke generation.
Pva is not for external use with sand and cement it says it on the tub in bold lettering. Sbr is a far superior product for external use and has many different uses. Another stupid video from Roger.
I've just discovered the hard way that if you add SBR to repointing mortar for crazy paving, brick acid doesn't work nearly as well cleaning up the mess.
Great video advice about bonding agents Roger, but with the U.K. disappearing down the waste hole with huge and relentless economic problems, law and order going down the Swanee with soaring knife crimes, housing crisis which can’t be solved, and massive problems with unlimited immigration, talking about bonding agents seems slightly bizarre.
Ha! when I do political rants I get people saying ' stick to DIY' or whatever. We like to mix it up on this channel but the political stuff is all about building so talking about some of those other issues is jumping the shark.
Yeah sticks like shit . We were putting copings on and we were using SBR / cement slurry on the wall and the copings . I had holes in my gloves so had it all over my finger tips … couldn’t get it off for days !!!! 😩🧱👍🏽

I don't think I've ever seen anyone pull the quality faces like Roger does in that thumbnail, always makes me chuckle 😂
I’ve used Ronafix years ago for concrete repairs,
Also it’s good for screeding floors where you need a thinner layer on uneven surfaces.
Great stuff.

Never leave home without SBR!!
My girlfriend says I have bonding issues.
Thanks for your advice.
She tells me that too.
Tell her you just need to try it out on a few different test pieces. Scientific research.
Im doing my Level 3 Domestic Retrofit and Sustainability Advisor at the moment and your video's visualise the theory we are learning. Thankyou
Excellent!
Learn something new. SBR = Styrene Butadiene Rubber. Several products in US. Will check out for stucco repair! Thanks for info.

SBR all the way for outside and some inside jobs for me. Not seen Kurt's video yet, will have a look.
I've moved from PVA to SBR. Good old Kirk. SBR seems to have a multitude of uses 👍🏻

Thanks John, good to know.
Do you use it as an admix for the adhesive or prime the floor with it first? What ratio? Cheers
What about horizontal applications on floors where PVA is used not as a primer but adn admix?
brilliant info as always on SB
Bond was a great agent
:) Ah, a fellow viewer with ADH.. Oh, look, a squirrel!
Plasprime green grit isn’t a bad shout for a good grab when rendering it contains SBR too
Im not in the building trade but amazed at howsome builders have never heard of it.
You are right, it is strange to find that.
Great advice Roger!
Render grip is my go too

That's a great idea with the glass! I heard the pink sbr is the besr!
Best
I love the smell of SBR
Go and work in a carpet shop you will love it 😂
Thank You!

Kirk sells his own super strong pink SBR now
He is a man with a plan, I can see him having a television show before long.

You are forgetting that TV isnt watched like it used to be. Probably a TV show gets fewer views than a TH-cam show
Got any jobs going on the channel 😅 - how do I get involved?
got this on my shopping list now
Can you use SBR when rendering a fireplace?
yes I have done it
@@SkillBuilder great thanks 👍

Ha ha - thought I recognised that voice on radio 2😊

In the UK plastering is done indoors while rendering is outdoors.
Pva and cement mix makes for some serious bondage.
Why nobody has made a bonding agent called Agent Bond I’ll never know!
I thought the best Bonding agent was Roger Moore...oh, I think I have my wires crossed :)
Nice Information
Andy the roofer swears by FBR.
Very interesting

That is true
Don’t waste your time HP 14
