  • In this special episode we compare the original "I Am Legend" novel by Richard Matheson to all three movie adaptations, "The Last Man On Earth", "The Omega Man", and "I Am Legend". Which is the most faithful to the book? And which is the best movie? #iamlegend #theomegaman #thelastmanonearth

      Saw it when I was a kid. I remember really liking it, but that was before I was exposed to Romero. Wouldn't mind screening it again with my current extensive knowledge of Zombie Lore.

      Haha thanks. Old intro is classic but our videos are getting longer and that intro was pretty long and decided for these longer videos it's time to cut to the chase to hold new viewer retention

    Hey guys! I recently discovered your channel and love it! You deserve a lot more views and subscribers. Thanks for covering Richard Matheson's classic! He wrote some great stuff and had a massive influence on so many celebrated modern day storytellers like Stephen King and Steven Spielberg. I suspect Spielberg heavily "borrowed" from Matheson's short story "Little Girl Lost" (adapted for Twilight Zone) when he wrote the screenplay for Poltergeist -- seriously, revisit both and you'll notice more than a couple of similarities. Matheson's son, Richard Christian Matheson, has also written some excellent stories; he co-wrote what I consider an underrated, mostly overlooked 1980s teen comedy gem called "Three O 'Clock High," a film I highly recommend as I think you'd appreciate it. Keep up the awesome work! P.S. I'm one of your viewers who miss the old intro ... maybe you can use it every once in a while for special episodes?

    • @FrightfullyForgotten
      @FrightfullyForgotten  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah after reading I Am Legend we really want to read more, he also wrote most of the best Twilight Zone episodes. We will try to sneak the old into in some times, we found it was too long and was hurting our viewer retention, and new viewers would just stop watching haha. It's one of those things that we thought we would sacrifice to maybe help grow the channel, while also maybe pissing off die hard fans.

    Now we're talking. I first saw Last Man on Earth back when I was probably 11. I got to stay up and watch it on the local Chiller Theater out if Columbus. I was so freaked out that I must have had a couple of circuit breakers trip in my brain. And the novel is even better. This is a holt trinity. Vincent Price, Richard Matheson and Italo Horror.

    • @FrightfullyForgotten
      @FrightfullyForgotten  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah Last Man on Earth is really underrated, surprised it doesn't get brought up more as being influential

    Nice job, cool idea for a video, hope you do more like these. I think you guys nailed the comparison between the three films. All products of their time and all have a separate feel/tone, depending on what sort of film you're in the mood for.

    Richard Matheson wrote the screenplay for the last man on earth but when he sold it the producers changed things that he didn't like so he used the name Logan Swanson in the credits. I have read the book and agree with you about all 3 movies.
    Keep up the great content and keep drinking.

    Great comparison. Funny enough the writers of Omega Man got credited for the 2007 film, its more a remake of that film than a readaptation of the book.

    My favorite is the Vincent Price version mostly as I’m a Price fan, but the Omega Man is also fun with its odd touches; mostly the albino mutants. The ‘07 film could’ve been good had they not done that dumb ending reshoot since the OG ending is similar to the book’s ending where Neville realizes he’s the creatures’ boogeyman

    Hi from the UK. Those beers look tasty. I remember reading the novel when I was 14 (long time ago) when on holiday, it had a very trashy cover which I had to hide from my parents. I found the novel very scary. All the films here have their moments but I still feel the true version is yet to be made. Robert Eggers would be my dream Director of choice.

    • @FrightfullyForgotten

    the Last Man on Earth film is a classic (can't go wrong with Vincent Price), would watch stuff like that with my father growing up; I actually saw it not too long ago on Tubi in color. I watched I Am Legend around when it came out and hated it; the design of the infected people was ugly (as you said, trash CGI) and I didn't like how fast they were - I just remember the end being really dumb lol I never watched Omega Man, but it looks interesting, I will have to give it a go sometime.

      @@Nicolas.Vincent Actually did get around to watching it, thought it was okay. The story was good, and It did feel like a Clive Barker story, but I didn't really care much for he characters and it was a bit long in the tooth.

      @@FrightfullyForgotten Oh shit! Well, I loved it! Not a perfect flick, but I love parts 1 & 2, the newest being my 3rd top ranked. It seemed like whatever they did that annoyed me, they'd only do it for a few mins to establish a character, and wouldn't keep it annoying. Like the drug recovery thing, it's only really furthering the plot.
      I think they could do a better job next time if there is a next time.
      I must say that I loved the villain! Tho, his Power Configuration transformation at the end was kinda lame! The Dr. Channard Cenobite transformation from part 2 was 100x more satisfying! I hope we get a sequel! I'm a little obsessed with Barker's work. Candyman is my personal fave 🐝🚽
