What a load a crap! In general, you can buy a rebel xt for that $129 price tag, however, I didn't know those OG film cameras were being sold so effin cheap! 👀 thank you for that information, Kai 😀
Why an XT? I can buy a modern 12mp 1100D with HD video + an 18-55mm IS lens for 129$ here in Egypt. An XT is more like 50 bucks. But both are amazing pieces if technology compares to this con anyway so yes. Buy a used rebel.
Unfortunately yes, because you're technically just giving a person/company money. There's no formal agreement/guarantee that the money is supposed to go into developing said product.
And the product/kickstarter is professionally constructed by a good con-artist, like how it says Yashica Japan, Camera excellence since 1949, Promo video shot in a japanese cafe, using a Japanese model, with a contact address in Japan, but nowhere does it say Made in Japan or not made in hongkong. How they're decieving a person's mind with pretty images that showcase great optics yet saying the photos might be faulty, yet again say they're "illustrative", that a good mind play right there with the test images situation. The scammer also made a deliberate incorrect English page and never corrected any of it even after many corrected it all, for three reasons: 1- keep the text as vague as humanely possible 2- Give the impression of a Japanese look 3- make it harder to take legal action in future courts, there are also very good plays like putting on non-fuctional dials/buttons yet never claim they do work (it's not as if you buy a camera expecting buttons in the promotional images to work right?), like the silver trim, like the use of these fake film cartridges and never claiming they are what their name says (6x6, 1600 ISO, etc). And what makes this all work so well is the legal situation of kickstarter as a whole where you basically cannot take any legal action against as a backer, and the fact that with this business model you get your full revenue before sending one model out of the door, and they never sent review units either, for obvious reasons. All in all, I slowly salute & clap for the whole con, from the idea, to the investment in purchasing the brand name, to the promotional kickstarter page, it's very well done. Very. And in an era where people are so hard to fool.
A friend's son, who's a minimum wage high school kid, bought one of these. To say he was pissed when he got it is seriously understating it. He tried to make it work, but in the end admitted defeat.
