      Steinbeck, not Hemingway; and the quote is disputed because it's a secondhand attribution by an historian....but yeah. Point stands, even if he never actually said it exactly that way.

      It is so sad this is our reality, people who don't use their health care will think the system is ok until it hits them, by that time it's is already too late. There are so many people who were deny and die in silent, they never make the news, and the rest of America is ignorant of their death. That's why NOW is the time to let everyone know about the reality of the US Healthcare.

    I have worked at health insurance companies and answered calls. I have taken calls at a medical provider office as a biller that got heated. She shouldn't have been arrested, full stop. Terminate the conversation, yes. Customer service reps don't deserve to just accept abuse (although when you work in this industry you should EXPECT customers to be angry and frustrated because the system is terrible so there should be big leniency on that, too). Do you know it is physically impossible to get a specific person on the phone at BCBS at all? I do because it's been my sole job to do Regence and Blue Cross billing. There is no physical way for an average member of BCBS to find a specific employee at BCBS and to even CONTACT them at their place of business for work related endeavors, let alone physically harm them. Also do not forget that the CS Rep was clearly giving information that was directly harmful to the health of this woman's child. SHE was being attacked. This is just reactive abuse corporate style IMO.

  • @rainbowconnected
    @rainbowconnected 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +35

    BCBS was effectively saying that Brianna's child would be their next victim of needless pain and suffering, possibly death. They and other insurance companies have a clear record of carrying through on their threats to harm the people who pay them for healthcare. Thousands of people per year die because of their unethical behavior and greed. Why aren't the leaders of these companies being sent to jail or fined when they made a very real, very credible threat and have already followed through plenty of times?

    • @evergreenforestwitch
      @evergreenforestwitch 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +10

      Yes. In the most extreme interpretation, this is reactive abuse on Brianna's part. In any humane, reasonable interpretation she was frustrated and had a bad moment. There really is no harm a BCBS member can cause BCBS from a phone call. It's ridiculous that they are doing this.

    Also, that very logic you used re: whether it was credible or not is the exact reason that these people calling in threats to hospitals and schools over trans care and whatever else they've been lied to about aren't sitting in jail right now. Conveniently, they could rationalize whether their threat was credible, but when they need to make an example of someone that goes out the window.

    You must get a contract of some kind with this insurance, she should be able to sue them for breach of contract for this. I'm Canadian and we have a health insurance plan and we are never refused treatment, we go to the hospital or doctor's show our health card, get treated and the bill is $0.

    • @evergreenforestwitch
      @evergreenforestwitch 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @annalatondress6730 it's literally not possible to get the direct contact information for any Blue Cross employee as a member. And I don't mean their home number, I mean the direct line phone number or email address of any specific employee. Not possible. I used to do all Regence and BCBS billing for a provider's office and there is no way to talk to the same employee twice. Full stop. The US ain't Canada. Your rules don't apply. And corporations run this country and have all the power. As a citizen, there's very little you can do about it except violence at this point. I'm not advocating for violence. It's a statement of fact. They have tightened the screws so hard that's where we are.

      The fine print in insurance here in the US basically means what the insurance company says is always right.
      Add to that, it's a massive company with endless money. If she tried to sue them, they would run circles around her until she was completely broke.
      Never underestimate just how broken the american healthcare industry is. And protect your Canadian system at all costs.

I also had an Apple employee lose his temper when I kept asking to talk to a manager and wouldn't transfer the call ( they had sent me a $1k phone that I didn't order and had to send back)
    I sure hope that Brianna doesn't have to go to jail.

    It seems beyond belief to me that anyone would think Brianna's behavior warranted arrest, $100,000 bond and up to 15 years in goal. Compare that to paedophiles, rapists, domestic violence perpetrators etc.
    Also where were all these remarks about excessive punishment when the discussion was about The Adjuster because I read a lot of the comments section and I didn't see any.

    Haven't read further into what Brianna said but if all was said "you're next" how could that be a threat? Maybe you're next to her is saying you're next to face the same situation having a sick child who needs medical health coverage you'll have to battle to get it. I'm not in the US but NZ with universal healthcare & ACC to cover accidents, there's still mini battles you face about waiting lists & access to certain things I think I've said (definitely thought it) I hope you never have to face this with a knowing look on my face that whoever I'm dealing with fails to put themselves in my place facing the same circumstances when potentially it's only a car accident away

    I do agree with you that the arrest was ridiculous and it was not a credible threat, but I think it's importwnt to tell the whole truth when we repeat information online. Leving out the "You guys are next," or whatever it was exactly that Briana said, came across as witholding or twisting the information to fit your narrative. I can think that and still agree with your overall message.

      I can agree but in that same vein, 100k and 15 years are an overreach of the law and that is abuse of power. People easily criticize the defendant but are reluctant to point out the judge and their questionable authority.
