How to Fix A Creeking Laminate Floor

  • This set of laminate flooring planks have been creeking and driving me crazy since I installed them 4 years ago. The culprit is a void between the sub floor and the actual planks. The fact that the flooring was installed as floating (no glue or nails) allows the planks to flex where there's a gap between them and the plywood subfloor.
The Simple-Fix epoxy was the perfect product to fill the hollow void under our floor planks caused by an uneven subfloor.
By the way, this does not fix the creeking caused by planks rubbing against a nail, which is probably the most common cause of creeking.

    Hi there,
I am looking to buy something like this as our brand new laminate flooring has a few spot where the flooring planks flex due to uneven sub flooring.
I can no longer find this product on floor and decor... do you know if I can find it anywhere else?
My subfloor is plywood and we have floating laminate on top (standard click lock).
Thanks a lot for your help!!

I have the same issue. My concern was using a glue between the planks and vapor barrier. Won’t there still be issues with expansion since it is technically glued down? I know its better than gluing it to the sub floor. Also, whats your thoughts on filling the void from underneath? I was going to drill a hole between the subfloor and vapor barrier from the basement and fill from there.

there is an underlayment between the slab and the planks....will this still work?

Yes. I had an underlayment between plywood subfloor and the laminate planks, and this worked very well!

So I have the issue of my laminate floors being EXTREMELY loud over hardwood floor. I don’t think there is any underlayment between the laminate and hardwood. Do you think this would still work ?

Thanks for the video. Can you give an update now? Does it still hold? Would you do something different now?

No problem. It does still hold! I shot the glue between the vapor barrier and the planks. Because the floor is floating (not fastened to the sub floor), the glue doesn't actually fasten the planks down to the sub floor. The glue just spans some of the gap between the sub floor and the planks so that the planks don't flex when we walk on them. Anyway, long answer for: I would still use this approach when the sub floor isn't completely flat and there's a void between the sub floor and the floating planks.

Do you see an issue with it being glued to the underpayment? The laminate may not be glued to the subfloor, but my concern is it still being glued down. I’m going to try shooting it from under in the basement.

Here it is (www.flooranddecor.com/installation-supplies-wood-laminate-installation-materials/bostik-simplefix-hardwood-epoxy-flooring-repair-kit-100092857.html), but I do NOT remember it being $50. I don't remember the exact price, but I don't remember it being so pricey. I bought it at Lumber Liquidators.

low viscosity epoxy is what you want to find:
Sika (Sikadur) makes them; get them at HD for under $20 for 6oz. If you're fixing 1sqft larger, get the Simpson brand that's $50 for 32oz but need special caulk gun
