    Greece has 3 of these, and I have seen them in action. Trully impressive, huge size, very loud -audible from 6 miles at least-, very big water cloud behind them and very fast! They landed troops and vehicles on a beach very quick. Easy target? Maybe if unescorted!

      @@duiwel There was both footage of US LCACs and Greek Zubrs. How to tell the difference? American LCACs are open top and have only two large fans as well as the control cab off to one side. Zubrs are enclosed and have three huge fans. So if you see NATO equipment coming off/out of an enclosed LCAC then it's likely a Greek Zubr.

    This is good for rescue missions. But for an assault vehicle it would only work well against a weak country. Still a very cool peice of engineering. I think it's just too big of a target that won't hold enough fuel to make it back from a combat mission against a world power. With tomahawk misses, javelins, etc, I don't think it could stand up. They are large, expensive, and seem to have large vulnerable areas like ducted fans and fabric(?) cushions. I'd expect them to be used, at most, once. If that's so, perhaps a fleet of smaller, cheaper, throw-away transports make more sense.
    Size is a disadvantage here -- imagine how long it needs to sit like a target while being unloaded.

    People keep commenting how vulnerable and how juicy a target this is, but so is every troop carrier. At the distance anti ship missiles are fired, the noise doesn't matter, only the radar signature really. The high speed of this thing is a big advantage because it is simply not in the danger zone for so long. Landing on a contested beach is pretty much out of the question these days.

      Yes, i was thinking of the Ekranoplans, wasn't one of the models (i think it was known as the Eaglet?) touted as an amphibious landing ship for the military, i do agree they seem crazy (sitting duck) but if their inception was in the 80's soviet thinking at that time was if the west had something then the USSR would have the same but bigger, another possible factor was the soviet union never mounted a full seaborne invasion whereas the US was experienced in this so knew many smaller landing craft had a better attrition rate than a few big landing craft.

      There was once a hovercraft ferry service that took passengers and vehicles from the UK to France. It exist no more, since bad weather frequently caused it to cease operating until the weather improved. This meant it was operating at a disadvantage compared to the other more traditional ferries. Hovercraft are particularly susceptible to bad weather, and the conditions in the pacific can be a lot worse than those in the English channel.

  • @danroffee4904
    @danroffee4904 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lots WRONG.
    Currently, the Chinese have four Zubr LCACs operational in the South China Sea.
    The Ukraine conducted PLAN observed sea trials in October 2012 and delivered the first in September 2013.
    In discussing the two Zubr LCAC (pronounced El-Kack) of Russian Navy, you repeatedly showed the AIST class LCAC identifying it as a Zubr, along with US LCACs. Maintenance nightmares and tactical massive targets to anti-ship missiles, the Russians scrapped theirs except for exactly 2 (hull numbers 770 and 782). The rest were sold the the Greek Navy. The Ukrainians scrapped theirs. You also ignored the Russian Tsaplya, Gus, Skat, and Bora classes of Russian LCAC's as well as the most recent under development, the Lebed class.
