  • It's time to compare Chimera Vs. Mnnthbx intakes. This is video three in the "2022 Grom SP Series". In this video I test the Chimera and Mnnthbx intakes for the 2022 Grom. I also show how to assemble the Mnnthbx intake and do the first oil filter/oil change. Watch to see what intake comes out on top!

      Hey Mnnthbx will all 3 of the washer bolts from the fairings on both sides still have mounting points with this intake installed? Or do the 2 bottom washer bolts on each side mount to the sides of the OEM air box?

    • @mnnthbx
      @mnnthbx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@minimotomatt9447 The new body work doesn't need the bracing as much as the prior models. For those that require extra strength for whatever reason, you can trim the airbox, leaving the outer skeleton to use as the bracing.

    Great video. I bought the man in the box for all the reasons you just listed. It arrived yesterday. The silicon hose meh the metal is nice but like you I prefer tucked.

  • @ShadeTreeKennyT
    @ShadeTreeKennyT 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Another advantage to the man in the box intake is the thick silicone tube. It will not absorb as much heat as the metal chimera, so you'll get a colder intake charge. Heat soak is always something to avoid.

      Actually aluminum is much better as the cold air will actually cool the aluminum tube, hence why the majority of intakes used in the motorsport application are aluminum. The temp. isn't trapped as on the 2022 Grom, the intake is out in the open. Touch a Chimera SRI after the engine is running and let everyone know how cool it feels on the aluminum tube. It'll cool down even more once you're riding.

    I just installed the MNNTHBX intake. From the get rid of list.
    1. I still have the stock exhaust, yoshi exhaust soon!
    2. I think I will cutting the OEM air box just to cover the space at the bottom, that looks horrible without that box in there.
    3. I am keeping my OEM plate holder ( I'm the only man on earth who likes it 😂). Lol
    4. DHM cam is on the way.

      I'm thinking of getting the TST Industries ram air cover and large intake tube instead of an intake for the exact reason you stated.... Looks terrible.
      The rear fender works great if you ride in the rain. It does look odd for many but it works. Fender eliminators are sleek but everything ends up on your back 😂

    Whomever told you not to run synthetic is dead wrong. It’s the best for air cooled bikes. That rumor has been around since the invention of synthetic oil. It handles higher temps better than conventional. One easy way to tell is by asking them why not. They’ll say that’s just what they were told lol. Been running full synthetic in all my bikes for 20 years. I am curious though if the bar and chain oil had a negative effect, being so much thicker than the recommended oil.

    That’s nice for the oil change. I’ve been looking up Honda Groms and slowly saving up money for one. Watched a video months ago on how to change the oil and I don’t like that the older Grom you had to take off the hole cover to change a filter

    Leaving the sensor exposed to unfiltered air was a lazy solution from man in the box and will cause the sensor to fail sooner. And a rubber hose? Come on man, the tube needs to be solid. Like the filter placement and wire harness extension though. I think I'd prefer the chimera bug try to order the pigtail from man in the box.

    • @steadygarage
      @steadygarage 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chimera has already addressed the issue with the IAT extension, they have a V2 version which all new intakes shipped after Jan 2022 will have included.

    What’s your thoughts on the fairing slop that the cold air intakes bring? I just installed a mnnthbx on my 22 grom and am almost considering swapping it for a chimera just so that I can get a kitako oil cooler to bring back the fairing support

    • @tylertaughtme
      @tylertaughtme  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The slop is gonna happen until someone comes out with a brace of some sort to bolt in. Fyi, With the oil coolers you can only run certain intakes or they wont fit.

      Unfortunately if you want a good video and to keep random peoples attention you have to add the music. I did however add portions on my other grom videos that have no music just so people can hear it. Also most of the time you can hear it over the music which I did on purpose and you arent really missing much anyway. Check out some of my other grom videos though if you want to see some more!

    why oil the intake filter?

    • @tylertaughtme
      @tylertaughtme  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Filters like these require oil to help catch small particles. Usually you use the recommended filter oil but bar and chain oil is viscous and stickier than something like 10w-30 so it is an acceptable stand in for filter oil.
