Hands down the best key bidding guide out there. Clear and easy to understand. The only thing I wish you mentioned is. How to practice , how to approach moving and strafing etc at the same time as you are pressing 1-5 and shift 1-5. Like how it's done ?
I tried looking up dozens of different ways to learn to key bind and I never got a straight answer or someone that was willing to show people like me how to do it step-by-step. This was exactly what I was looking for so I want to say thank you for taking the time and posting this.

Great video! I'm often struggling with my keybinds so it's great to see something like this. Is possible for you to post your shaman's keybinds. Shamans have the most keybinds due to their utility so I'd love to see how you went about doing it. Keep up the excellent work.
Bar1: 12345QERTZXC Bar2: 12345QERTZXC + Shift Modifier Bar3: I use MWU/D with shift mods and FG along with other mouse buttons if needed. I use ` (left key to 1) for open / chat. If I need even more keys, I use CTRL as last resort.
I shift my hand up to the more Diablo style while in combat, and doing so really limited my keybinding at first, but i figured out i could use the alt key as well for keybinding, so i got myself comfortable with the keys and i do very well (If i do say so myself) as a frost mage. I found that keeping my burst skills closer together it makes for hellacious damage.

im new and i was watching gameplays i looked at a lot of keybinds i wanted to use it too .this is going to be helpfull especialy when im further at the game
Primary action bar = 1 2 3 4 5 r f c t g v z.... top left action bar (above primary action bar) Shift+1 Shift+2 Shift+3 Shift+4 Shift+5 Shift+r Shift+f Shift+c Shift+t Shift+g Shift+v Shift+z.... bottom right action bar ctrl+1 ctrl+2 ctrl+3 ctrl+4 ctrl+5 ctrl+r... you get the point. Then I also use S, X, `, B, else where. I also use a 16 button mouse.
I just wanna say thank you for this video, after 8 years I decide to keybind and i use on my demon hunter i already got 16 keybind in place since they don't got much abilities in august 9 it be easier to keybind
You didn't mention what you use to target other group members (if you ever do). The default is F1 to target self and F2-F5 for your group mates. Just curious what you'd use if you needed to. Great guide

Great guide! I wish I had had something like this when I first started playing. Do you use macros at all? They can be really confusing, and maybe a guide on building simple macros would be something useful for the channel.
Typically, I use my numpad for 1-9 and zero for my main abilities, Q for anything that requires mouse targetting (such as blizzard for mage, or earthquake for shaman) cnum1-9/0 for pets f1-5 for cooldowns, sQ for a quick heal (healing surge, flash of light etc.) and snum 1-9/0 for odds and ends. I'm just trying to get a little more efficient in raid situations, and recently I've tried to switch to the 1-6 method, to free up my mouse hand. But at this point, I'm wondering if it's even worth it to go through the retraining process at the cost of efficiency, or if I should just stick to what I know best, and focus on becoming more efficient at that? Thoughts/opinions?
Ive been clicking my spells since wow came out, and it just felt comfortable clicking the spells :/ i dont really think about it i just do it so fast anyway

Hey Tuskeh I've been watching a bunch of these videos and have noticed that just about everyone does it differently, the only consistent characteristic is that they're all in the same region. No matter what, all of these methods are better than numpad right?
BengeePlays The whole reason that using the numpad is bad for movement is because you need your right hand on your mousepad. This - at least for right-handed people - is for the best, as it gives you the most control over your character's movement. Whatever you use to move, as long as it is on the left-hand side of the keyboard and is comfortable for you, is fine!
Ugh. I actually use the default keybinds. Okay my first row 1 to the plus sign is the most defensive spells. Then i will press shift 2 and that would the second action bar. It so much easier..
lol if you are a new player you will be completely confused by this lol. This is not very helpful to a new player. First off sloooow down explain macros and key binding. This is for new player trying to wrap their heads around this game. It is cool you are doing this but a new player will never follow what you are trying to say.

Not really, no! I just prefer to keybind next to everything, it's how I play. Especially considering that I'm a Shaman, and I have a lot of abilities compared to other classes.

There's a new system called "Cross-realm Zones", where players from all kinds of realms are put together, so there are always other players around (this happens most of the time, but not for every zone; here's some more info about it wow.gamepedia.com/Cross-realm_zones). I would suggest a high-population server, as there's nothing like being surrounded by other players in the big cities. That said, this can lead to queues for logging in when there are a lot of people playing (like when an expansion, like Legion, launches)!
I use 1-5 qertfgzxcv ~ I like to keep stuns on q if my class has it kicks on e and main cc on F poly clone fear and use those with control to cast at focus r is gap closers and or gap maker charge blink disengage etc and can use control to use on focus z I like to use as a slow or root frost nova hamstring but i try to keep them all the same for all the toons I play
Do you think maybe you could make a guid for a fury warrior keybinds and where to put specific spells and stuff like that(if you have a warrior) :D if you can thank you and a sub for this guid because it really helped
You completely disregarded R or shift bindings my man. I know it's about being comfortable, but you should explore all the options in a how to guide video.
+barduk4 You can use that, sure, but I prefer to keep it free because alt is the default modifier for self-cast. I've started using some alt keys, but only with a second modifier as well (like alt-shift-1). It's entirely up to you! If you aren't self-casting with alt very much, then you'd benefit from using it for other keybinds.
Why on earth would you strafe that way not just put strafe on A and D instead of turn. Nobody uses turn. Your way would mean I cannot strafe and click and an enemy alie or cd etc.. While strafing.
+Chuchy Rizton Only a few of them, since Warlords of Draenor toned down the number of spells available. I still use the same keybindings, though - just not all of them!
i'm sorry i'm quite new (don't even have a max level yet, in fact i only have gotten to level 25 at the highest) but all of these keybinding seems quite intimidating i'm trying to move to key binding but i'm so worried that ill screw up and have nerd rage to deal with

OzoneBolt Some classes have abilities that let them cast while moving for small amounts of time (for the Shaman, the spell is called Spiritwalker's Grace); however, when I recorded this video, Shaman could cast Lightning Bolt while moving at all times. This has since been changed, but that's why you see me casting while moving in this video!
Tuskeh Thx Tuskeh but thats not exactly what i meant with my question, what i tried to say is that isn't it un optimal to leave the wasd keys untouched when you could easily use them to cast spells and just move with the mouse? I get that A and D might still be necessary to strafe but what about W and S ? also Id like to know whats your key binding setup movement wise, cause i don't think you ever press the S key :P
Oh! My mistake. I do occasionally press the S key (especially on a tank) to backpedal. You'll want to use the W, A and D keys at the very least, and use the mouse only when you need to move your character. Remember that your mouse is also targeting enemies or clicking on objects in the game world, so you can't use it to move at all times. I'm pretty much always using the WASD keys to move about.

I used to play like that but now I can't use my left hand. I am adjusting my playing style to make up for my handicap. Macros helped a lot

You can also use ALT with the keys. That actually is more comfortable for me than Shift or CTRL.
Aye, you can! I prefer not to, as it's the default "cast at self" modifier.

Here's what I do for my binds. 1-6, Shift 1-6, Q, R, T, F, Shift Q R T F, Crtl Q R T F, and Ctrl 1-3.

I have massive hands and have a very hard time having my pinky on shift is there any way besides the ALT key that I can compensate not using shift?
how do you change the skills bound to certain number, like I want to move 4 to 2 spot, there doesn't seam to be an easy way to do that.
i use the num pad for utility spells, like totems and my spirit wolf spell on shamans

It's all up to how comfortable you feel! As long as you can hit the buttons that you need to hit at a reasonable speed, then you're good.

cwwisch Don't worry. You're not in a high end raiding guild, so if you screw up just learn from it! just keybind what's right for you.

It's an addon! You got several different ones =) Bartender is the most used I believe but not sure if this is bartender. Hope it helps!
