The music is edited from a piece called Giants Causeway 1 by Nick Ingman. It appeared on a Bruton Library Music album called The Will To Win. It was released in 1978. The catalog number is BRG9
I remember when Channel 5 Video and the Video Collection launched and they started releasing these. The massive disappointment when I put this on and not seeing two separate full episodes.
For a very long time, Alien Attack was the only VHS video I had of Space: 1999 I recorded off of a late night movie show on one of the local channels. Now that I have the entire first season of Space: 1999 on Blu-Ray, and can watch both seasons on two free streaming services, I can’t find a complete video of Alien Attack anywhere.

Tis “Giants Causeway” and was also used as the intro theme to Ch 9 🇦🇺 “Wide World of Sport”

Good to see someone else who remembers Channel 5 Video and The Video Collection.

Sounds like a jazzed up version of the FBI TV show. go to 1:06 for the tune.
How awful, low-class and insulting those behind this intro were to those who'd been loyal and faithful fans. Year-2 was good by comparison.
Agreed. This is a horrendous treatment of the original series.
