    Would you recommend this laptop as the only laptop to work with photography, as in no need for a extra desktop or something like that? I don't know anything about photography, but I am looking for a laptop (two, actually) to give to my sisters, both of which work with these softwares and photography. They have been struggling with Windows PCs to do their work for the longest time and seem to need Apple hardware to work more efficiently. Only problem is that where they live, Apple products are obscenely expensive because of import taxes. I want to give them a proper work laptop as a gift but I can only spend so much though, and at first this looks like a great budget option that I could pick for them.

    • @gkexposure4101
      @gkexposure4101  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      First of all that’s really really nice of you to purchase a MacBook for your sisters. Even if you’re just considering. I know it’s bot the cheapest I genuinely think it’s well worth the money you spend on these. You can output to a bigger monitor very easily which will help their workflow. If I had the choice to only have the MacBook Air as my main machine I don’t think I would say no. You’re absolutely right. Apple hardware does last longer.

    I love my M1 MacBook Air with 8GB ram but doing panorama stitching on Lightroom (native M1 code) I found that it struggles and takes quite a bit of time. So I upgraded to 16GBs and now it flies through. So if you do a lot of panoramic stitching then do consider 16GB model. This is the first time I bought the same notebook twice with just more RAM even skipping the new M1 pro/max models. For photo editing and occasional drone video editing, the base M1 air is plenty fast. Just consider more ram if you handle large photos or panoramas.

    I'm watching this review over a year after it was made. I'm finding more recent videos, made within a month or two of 1/2023, is reporting that the 8gb version is getting really hot running Lightroom for more than 20minutes and having a noticeable difference in performance as a result. Are you experiencing this now that Lightroom is working proper with the M1? I just got the M1 iMac and found there's a huge difference in performance from the fans in the 8 vs 16 model. Hi nice video. Just came across your channel. I have a mid 2014 Macbook Pro with 1TB and 16 GB of RAM. I shoot with a 42 MB camera. My current laptop is slow when using LR CC and Photoshop especially with masks and layers. Do you think the M1 Macbook Air will work or should I consider the M1 Pro? At the moment I am looking at a 16" MacBook Pro M1 with 16 GB and 1 TB of storage.
    What are your thoughts? Thanks!

      I bought the MacBook Pro M1 16gb myself and returned it. I’d recommend going for a 32gb machine if it’s going to be your main workhorse. You’re gonna need all the RAM you can get. I’m convinced that apple and Adobe work together to cripple their machines to generate more revenue.

    Thank you for the wonderful video. Your video has giving me more conviction to buy the Mac Air M1. I just need it for tethering, I wasn't planning on doing post but I can see that you can too! I use Capture one for tethering and also a bit for post and LR CC for retouching. I read that now Capture One & LR CC are native to M1.

I am thinking about going back to Apple and buying a Mac Air M1 with 16 GB and 1 TB storage. Do you think that should be enough for my main machine working mostly with LR Classic, PS and Illustrator. I don't wanna go for the M2 as I don't know how the higher performance without fan will work out. Any recommendations? Should I better go for a Mac Pro or will the Air be ok to do the job? I’ve read they are still not great for gaming mainly because game developers haven’t designed popular PC games for MAC’s. But people are suggesting in the future more developers might put more effort in, due to the M1 chip being so powerful, so users would get better game play experience. I’m guessing this is partly why Apple developed such a powerful chip, to encourage game developers…as it’s huge market.
