    The squash bugs have definitely been my biggest pest this year. They are everywhere! I got a few butternut squash but they took out all my zucchini and Seminole pumpkins as seedlings. I was good about vacuuming and removing the eggs in the beginning but it was too much as the weather got warmer. Thanks for the tips! I will definitely need to be more aggressive in the fall.

    So interesting- I’ve had the LEAST amount of squash bugs in my garden this year- with MOST amount of squash plants! I’ve set up bird feeders and have an amazing variety of birds hanging out in the garden! Also Ive planted more flowers throughout the garden than ever! I’ve planted trombone, Seminole, butternut, spaghetti, and a variety of pumpkins- I’ve only found a few on the pumpkins. I’m in Zone 6b- eastern Washington - and we’ve had over 3 weeks of over 100° weather-we will get a break in the weather next week! (Can’t wait!!)

    I had a bunch fly at me, I thought they were wasps at first, screamed 😂and I am sure my neighbors think I'm nuts. They were all over my button bush, and mating. They truly come at you, flew at my face and hair lol.

    These are great ideas. Here's a few more; in early June start checking the leaves for eggs every other day or so, both tops and bottoms and just knock them off with your fingers, once the eggs hit the ground the nymphs can't make it to the plant when they hatch. And if they get outa hand later in season just go out to garden early morning and with gloved hand just smash the sun bathing demons! Yup, stinks for a minute but goes away rather quickly. No chemicals required!!

    I use dish soap water spray on my squash bugs. I soak “contact spray” the bug with a little bit of the spray and they die with in 10 to 20 seconds. Dawn dish soap works best 2 or 3 tablespoons in a gallon of water. This works on all bus. Basically the soapy water makes so they can breathe and die off suffocation.

      @JerrasGarden  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have tried this but I guess I didnt put enough on them to cover the entire bug and suffocate. I will try again. Thanks for explaining how you do it.

      I sprayed soapy water on my [pepper plants] and it almost killed my pepper plants most of all bottom leaves fell off, and all blooms died. Peppers finally started blooming after 30 days or so. Some ppl. say to rinse soap off after a few hours, i didn't do that. So be leary of spraying a lot on the plants themselves.

    Nw Nevada high dry windy desert here. We recently had a wide swath of morman beetles go thru… not sure what they eat but still have a few crawling around garden/ greenhouse. Ugly critters.😣. I’ve tried so many ways & found duct tale works best for me. Yes, water at base & the come running to get up the plant 😂. Our temps run one week or two weeks triple then down to 90s 🥵. But something is chewing my rhubarb leaves like crazy & some small young tomato plants.
    I just got some pirithrin 😕sp??.. & will try that.

    On shower setting soak the plants, the bugs climb up to the top of the plant, use a small shop vac to collect them. Very effective and sort of fun. If your neighbors bother you, do this at night and they will then do their best to avoid you.

    I have spent numerous hours trying to compat these bugs. I planted 10 pumpkin plants and the squash bugs jumped into the hundreds by the end of August. I dusted with Seven and no luck. I did the dawn bucket treatment and wasted hours each day fighting them. II feel defeated. I will not plant pumpkins ever again. 😅

    • @JerrasGarden
      @JerrasGarden  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the key here I think is to not plant pumpkins or squash during the time of year when squash bugs are prevalent. For me, they were at their peak during the months of June through August. So I plant squash stuff spring or fall.

      Small shop vac works very well, youll collect dozens in minutes. Shower the plants with a garden hose on shower setting and they all scurry to the top of the plant making it easy
