    Join Anna and Alf today at ELISEGS PILLAR and the mound that it sits on which is a BRONZE AGE BURIEL CAIRN in LLANGOLLEN in NORTH WALES, UK as Anna teaches of the importance of this important SCHEDULED MONUMENT.
    ELISEGS PILLAR has been here for more than 1000 YEARS and was once a blunt statement of CHRISTIAN FAITH and ROYAL AUTHORITY and is PROBABLY THE ONLY SURIVING ROYAL INAUGURATION POINT FOR THE WELSH PRINCES.
    By the late seventeenth century the Pillar was no longer standing ( until it got re erected again ! ) because of either an earthquake or Puritans knocking it down but the damaged inscription was recorded by the famous Welsh antiquary Edward Lhuyd. The mound was dug into in 1773 by the local land-owner Thomas Lloyd and is reported to have contained a stone cist with a skeleton. He also re-erected the Pillar and this was recorded in a second inscription on the shaft.
    THE PILLAR WAS ONCE TOPPED WITH A CROSS and STANDS ON A MOUND whose origins date back to THE EARLY BRONZE AGE at least 4,000 YEARS AGO.
    EXCAVATIONS done between 2010 -2012 by Bangor and Chester Universities on the mound revealed that it is a classic example of a NORTH WALIEN MULTI FAZED CURVED BURIEL CAIRN THAT DATES TO THE EARLY BRONZE AGE.
    SO THIS 9th CENTURY ELISEGS PILLAR, THIS EARLY CHRISTIAN MONUMENT , A SCHEDULED ANCIENT MONUMENT is actually situated on a BRONZE AGE BURIEL CAIRN.
    IN ADDITION , ELISEGS PILLAR has GREAT BRITAINS LONGEST EARLY MEDIEVAL LATIN INSCRIPTION ON A MONUMENT making it a HISTORICAL DOCUMENT and an ARCHEOLOGIÇAL MONUMENT together.
    In this video Anna talks about the history of ELISEGS PILLAR and the BRONZE AGE MOUND it sits upon and the connection of this Pillar to VALLE CRUCIS ABBEY which we have a video of on our channel, here is the link -

    • @FXWalesAnnaAlf
      @FXWalesAnnaAlf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Inday thanks for watching and I'm so glad that you enjoyed this and yes well the pillar was erected in the 9th century but by the late seventeenth century the Pillar was no longer standing, but the damaged inscription was recorded by the famous Welsh antiquary Edward Lhuyd. The mound was dug into in 1773 by the local land-owner Thomas Lloyd and is reported to have contained a stone cist with a skeleton. He also re-erected the Pillar and this was recorded in a second inscription on the shaft. Its so fascinating :)

      Hi Abdul and thank you so much. I'm really happy that you enjoyed this. Yes well we do now have a new Prince of Wales but unlike the Welsh Princes of the past, he is not a native of Wales, he is King Charles son William who was Prince Wiliam and he has now got the roll of Prince of Wales after Charles gave him the title and Kate Middleton his wife has become Princess of Wales ( though they are both English and this confuses everyone ! ) Thanks so much for watching and May God bless you too :)

      Aww thank you so very much, you are very welcome. Yes it has stood there for 1,000 years but by the late seventeenth century the Pillar was no longer standing ( until it got put up again ! )but the damaged inscription was recorded by the famous Welsh antiquary Edward Lhuyd. The mound was dug into in 1773 by the local land-owner Thomas Lloyd and is reported to have contained a stone cist with a skeleton. He also re-erected the Pillar and this was recorded in a second inscription on the shaft. So it's all so very interesting :) I'm so happy that you enjoyed this, thanks for watching :)

So it's from the bronze age/Middle ages!? I'll never learn Welch, lol, but i enjoy hearing you speak it with your vocal commentaries. It has a sophisticated sound to it. Taa taa Anna.
