You are amazing. Thank you for breaking it down to setting filters then PD ratio etc.. the PD ratio bit is something I never understood and always just flew stock pics because I got sick of chasing my tail with pid adjustments. I also underestimated the value of the sliders.
I agree, BF FF has been good since 4.20 and the actual rates allow one to utilize it to the maximum. To me the default works pretty good but you do need to tweak the ff_boost to match your quads weight and prop to make it feel right. But once you get it right the first time, there’s no going back 🤷♂️

I see a Race Day Quads strap. I'm expecting 4 whoop frames and a AIO FC from them today :) . Three days and it was in my hometown post office. (Yes I did tip them, everyone should ;).
21:00 most likely your RC output in the radio isn't set correctly. You'd most likely need to adjust mid-trim within the radio for yaw or any axis that isn't showing 1500 in BF or whichever firmware is being used.
Great tune and explanation thanks 👍 I’m wondering if the yaw movement at 20:50 is similar to something I experience once in a while with my FrSky QX7. I’ll start flying and notice the quad slowly rolling to the right, not by much but annoying and I have to power cycle the radio to fix it. It’s happened with the radio’s internal tx, R9 and crossfire module, it’s like the stick calibration is out on the radio.
@@uavtech Yeah I read that in the video and tbh It happens so infrequently over the past few years that I’m not looking to fix it but I find it odd that it’s always right roll for me, regardless of quad and power cycling the radio fixes it. Then again there’s so many potential points of failure in our hobby I find it amazing we even get into the air when I really think about it 😂

Hi Mark I got your link from Joshua, Im so glad I found your channel and website. Im trying to do your exact tunne since I got the cidora also. But on my betaflight 4.2.5 in the independent filter settings the Gyro rpm filter does not show, I only have the gyro lowpass filter, the gyro notch filter, the dynamic notch filter, D term lowpass, D term notch and yaw lowpass but no gyro rpm filters settings show.
Really nice piece of information as always Mark. If I got it right, this kind of tuning process will give you the best flying freestyle quad right? I'd be amazing to see a similar process of you tuning for a more smooth approach, like getting rid of oscilations and getting the best possible quality footage and all that stuff (maybe this is a dumb thought tho) Well, anyway, thanks for your work!!

Hey Mark, I don’t know what to look at here, I’m pretty good with tuning by looking at bb logs, but something is stomping me. My quad flies very smooth until there is any type of breeze / wind. Then it starts shaking a lot, like MTOs but quite pronounced. And I’m not talking about very windy conditions, but some nice warm summer breeze. What should I look at? It’s driving me nuts.

I recall commenting sometime last year that I would love to see you tune JBs or other TH-camrs quads with your technique versus their tune to compare. I've tuned all my quads using your techniques and they all run smooth and very responsive. Although I use Blackbox to see how the gyro tracks the stick response , I find that the PID curve using PID toolbox gives much better analytical data on how well the gyro and sticks are tracking (tuned) after each PID change....the PID curve never lies....if it is over or under dampened it will show it. Is there anyway you can send me the raw BlackBox data from JBs tune and your tune so I can see what the PID curve looks like for both?

@@uavtech Thank you. I'm trying to tune my drone on emuflight for almost for a year and cannot get rid of oscillations on sharp turns and split s... Also it shakes in the wind... I do not understand at all does high dterm helps to reduce propwash, because I see two opposite views on that... I have nazgul5 with velox2207 2550kv motors... pid roll 74 60 51, pid pitch 77 73 56... On your videos your pd balance is much higher, dterm is almost twice lower than p... Also I can't get any oscillations with high P even at 200, so my pterm is just choosen by no real reason...
@@О.Ш-ь1щ it is all in balance. At 200P, you have overshooting. Check out a log, it is easy to see there. D-term stabilizes for outside influences (wash and wind), BUT also magnifies vibration from motor or frame. So, if mechanical vibration is low, you can pile on the D-term to keep quad stable in wash and wind. With that, P-term to keep the nose on point (on the sticks). D-term stabalizes and P-term keeps the nose on point.
Was P/D balance slider on 1.0 not too high? From my experience with that little filters delay my slider is usually at 0.8 sometimes even on 0.7 without overshoot. Just curious 🤚
Bobbles are mechanical issues. You can do your best to cover them up, but may never.be.100% happy. Maybe try adding D_min to suppress D-term in forward flight. But it will.make wash performance a little worse.
@@uavtech ok I will try that... I got this on a Diatone Taycan MCX with 4.1.2. One I moved to 4.2.5 those “bubbles” are much less noticeable but still there when I’m not touching the sticks in straight flight.
Looking forward to tune my Source1 for midrange 1700kv on 4s and 6s. What would be the difference on PIDs if running two different profiles for 4s and 6s? I means how much higher pids would be on 4s?
Mark, this is awesome! Thanks so much! Just recently began following, although I had inadvertently watched several of your videos in the past. Would emuflight be an even simpler process, due to the lack of filter sliders? I apologize if this is a dumb or incomplete question.... im 10 months into the hobby and just now venturing beyond stock tunes and emu presets
I would say emu is harder for a lack of sliders. Everything needs to be set manually and you need to keep ratios in mind because the sliders are not there to hold them for you.
@@uavtech thanks Mark. I think im going to take the Patreon Plunge (just coined it, feel free to use it 😆) and really dive in. Im absolutely lost in these videos dealing with Blackbox graphs and cell data... but I think, just as with the rest of this hobby, that familiarization will bring understanding. Thanks for the incredibly timely response! Super cool of you!
Tune like shown here and use F1 rates. F1 uses high gains. I think their FF is weaker, but still need to confirm. SimMode is some fixed amount of FF. SimMode off is no FF.
Would it by a bad idea to have filter settings linked with PID profile settings (with filter tabs having as many profiles as there are PID profiles)? So you can set different profile/filter combos at home and then go out and try them one by one?
D-term filters are stored in the selected PID profile. Gyro filter are not since those filters use tp run in the gyro loop. That was changed in 4.2, but someone needs to change storage location which has not been done yet.
@@uavtech I see, thanks for that info. I never inferred that from the gui, but I guess that's because some work need to be done in that area still. Looking forward to it!
Any advice for folks like me who learned on 800 degrees/second with no expo, in regards feed forward... I'm now at a point in BF of about 1.95 BF rates with 0.44 super rate and 0.12 rc expo... But unless I turn FF down, it still is rediculous at centre stick! Do I need to rewrite my 5 years muscle memory to get the most from BF, or do I just keep FF lowered?
i'm so lost.. so what is the first thing you should do when tuning a fresh quad with betaflight tuning on it. the first step... I want my quad to be alot tighter i feel on the turns it slides before it "grips" and turns.
Is this really an iFlight Cidora SL5-E? Why isnt the target IFRC/IFLIGHT_SUCCEX_E_F4? In both this and JB video, the target goes between FPVM/BETAFLIGHTF4 and AIRB/OMNIBUSF45D. Otherwise quite helpful guidance for tuning, as usual with your videos. I tried these exact settings on my SL5-E and it took off uncontrolled right after arming... back to the defaults and progressive tuning.

Hi do you have or can you help with a PID Tune on a Geprc Tinygo? Once I arm the motors the quad seems to move to one side not sure if a pid tune can help with this? Any advice would be great thanks.
Great looking tune at the end! Curious as to why you decided to keep d_min disabled while still incorporating a good amount of feedforward. Is that a specific choice for this quad, or do you tend to keep d_min disabled with FF under ~200?
I go to D max for the best performance. At that point boosting D sends it over the limit. Also, D_min is delayed in booting so does hot help with prop wash.
so can one get you to tune a quad for them? I assume there is a fee. Most of the quads I build fly great on stock settings but I have an UL 5" that has some vibrations and wobbles.
Always a bit dangerous starting where somebody left off; best to start from scratch and work through things in order. For example setting D vs D min can’t be done without resetting FF to zero to first tune Dmin and then raising FF to eliminate delay and then tuning D
I'd love to see that as a series, especially if you have some of you flying stock, some of you trying a 2-pack DIY tune, then flying it, and finally Mark getting it tuned up.
I just built a hexacopter and am about to start tuning it, it's my first hex and only the 3rd quad I've tuned. Are there any differences to tuning a hex vs quad that I need to keep in mind?

Darn you good,,, great job 🍻👊
1:54 what kind of oscillation was that?
Me pumping the throttle to check noise holding. Or what I (most) call "throbbles". So me pumping the throttle to check "throbbles".
Yeah, but not on this quad. I generally agree though.
Thanks Mark for your amazing videos. In general, which slider is helping to reduce bubbles in smooth linear flight?
Bobbles are mechanical issues. You can do your best to cover them up, but may never.be.100% happy. Maybe try adding D_min to suppress D-term in forward flight. But it will.make wash performance a little worse.
@@uavtech ok I will try that... I got this on a Diatone Taycan MCX with 4.1.2. One I moved to 4.2.5 those “bubbles” are much less noticeable but still there when I’m not touching the sticks in straight flight.
First make sure RPM filters are enabled wit Dynamic Notch too. Set Dyn Notch Max to 600. Try filter sliders are 1.0 and my Toothpic Presets for PIDs.
@@uavtech great!! Thanks again!
Looking forward to tune my Source1 for midrange 1700kv on 4s and 6s. What would be the difference on PIDs if running two different profiles for 4s and 6s? I means how much higher pids would be on 4s?
Hard to say. I reckon it will influence PD Balance and P and D Gain slider extents. Both Balance will need to be lower in 4S and P and D Gain higher.
@@uavtech hey mark.... can you make any fairly quick recommendations as to how I can achieve that "flight one feel" in Emu or Betaflight?
I realize this might be asking a very broad question.... if so, I apologize
They should be. D-term.filter are, but Gyro filter are.not yet. Just takes someone to do the work and submit as PR.
@@uavtech D term filters are? Only internally as an option then, 'cuz in user interface there is no way to select filter profiles, right?
Great video BTW... How much does JB's quad weigh?
i'm so lost.. so what is the first thing you should do when tuning a fresh quad with betaflight tuning on it. the first step... I want my quad to be alot tighter i feel on the turns it slides before it "grips" and turns.
See theuavtech.com/tuning for more resources
Is this really an iFlight Cidora SL5-E? Why isnt the target IFRC/IFLIGHT_SUCCEX_E_F4? In both this and JB video, the target goes between FPVM/BETAFLIGHTF4 and AIRB/OMNIBUSF45D. Otherwise quite helpful guidance for tuning, as usual with your videos.
I tried these exact settings on my SL5-E and it took off uncontrolled right after arming... back to the defaults and progressive tuning.
It was. For JB's video we were looking at setting on my bench FC since he had the Cidora.
great video and thank u.
what i would love to see you tune is ther diatone gtr369 3" 6s quad. aparently it cant be tuned properly on any betaflight 4. would love to see this done on bf 4.2
Can't be tuned properly on 4? What? That's just Fake News. Ignore it.
Send me one, I'll tune it on whatever you want.
@@uavtech 4 anything, search AndyRC and the diatone gtr369. he uses 3.5 as 4 does not work right. im no expert but alot of people/ youtubers have said the same thing. i would be more than happy to send you it to try for your self. its only sat here on the shelf feeling sorry for its self.
@@MrOrangeman18 email me if still interested. Anyone that can't tune between versions should not be taken seriously as "tuners" as they don't really have a thorough understanding of how things work.

Do you might know some persone in EU who is in that have the same tuning skils as you have? Thanks - Hello from Slovenia EU :)
I would love to use your tuning services 😉
Im serious 👍🏻
JB sent me. 👍🏼👍🏼
I feel like I've learn alot. Om your channel.. but my kwad feels floaty?? Is there anything that can fix that
Increase P and D Gain slider.
Hi do you have or can you help with a PID Tune on a Geprc Tinygo? Once I arm the motors the quad seems to move to one side not sure if a pid tune can help with this? Any advice would be great thanks.
Angle or Acro. Set Deadband in Receiver tab to 5.
Angle mode
I'm just starting out in fpv so looking to see if there is a pid tune to help smooth out the flight as it seems like the stick are very sensitive?
For Angle Mode, decrease Angle Strength in the PIDs tab.
Perfect I'll give that a go thanks for the advice.
awesome !
@@uavtech copy that. So once you have dialed in a p-d balance, do you add a little more d_max to help balance the addition of FF?
so can one get you to tune a quad for them? I assume there is a fee. Most of the quads I build fly great on stock settings but I have an UL 5" that has some vibrations and wobbles.

Now make the same video with mr. steel on betaflight :)
Always a bit dangerous starting where somebody left off; best to start from scratch and work through things in order. For example setting D vs D min can’t be done without resetting FF to zero to first tune Dmin and then raising FF to eliminate delay and then tuning D
I’m about to have you tune my wind5 and arrow 3 since you’re local lol
I'd love to see that as a series, especially if you have some of you flying stock, some of you trying a 2-pack DIY tune, then flying it, and finally Mark getting it tuned up.
@@tehllama42 I'd be honored at the opportunity. Don't have to ask twice lol.
How do you get such straight teeth? They are almost like dentures.
I just built a hexacopter and am about to start tuning it, it's my first hex and only the 3rd quad I've tuned. Are there any differences to tuning a hex vs quad that I need to keep in mind?
All the same.
@@uavtech thank you :)
I just woke up the moment you said have I lost you yet?
