How to Get On the Air from an ARRL Field Day GOTA Station

Does the GOTA station have to use the same mode of operation as the primary station? Can one use SSB while the other uses CW?

I'm waiting for the FCC to post my callsign. I was hoping it would post before field day but it didn't happen.
I went out to see cool radios and learn things in Seattle today and thanks to the GOTA station, I got to make 4 contacts.
It was really fun. :)
