  • Though overshadowed by the Great Depression, there is no shortage of ingenuity in the 1930s. The two-way radio gets miniaturized, and the world's first portable walkie-talkie goes on the air. The electric guitar changes popular music forever, and commuters become a cash cow for cities when the parking meter is introduced.
About Inventions That Shook The World:
Go on a decade-by-decade voyage of discovery through life-changing inventions, like the radio that made the world smaller, the machine gun that made it more dangerous, or the parking meter that made it more expensive. Discover and bear witness to the most innovative century the world experienced.

I’m a lawyer but I went to college in New England and all my buddies were engineering majors very interested in aeronautics and eager to share. I have had a lifelong fascination with aviation since then. Thanks guys!!!

Rare quality documentaries on a subject that I've struggled to find decent documentaries on, more of this kind of docs please. I was surprised when I saw how few subscribers this channel has right now and that's criminal. Anyways, subscribed and look forward to more.

The helicopter is probably one of the best aerial inventions after the aeroplane.

They all shared a common threads: try it and never give up with failures, ignore critics, mockers and naysayers many whom sponged off these inventors. Takes a special person.

In that film, the microphone & guitar were too close to the speaker, & the speaker cannot be directly in front of the source of the sound, that being in that case, the guitar & microphone.

I used to shop a few times a week near a great market. They then put in parking meters and for the last decade I've simply shopped elsewhere

Nothing like hearing thunderous racket over top of your government quarters , coming outside and looking up only to see a CH-53 flying a truck over top of your house. That was definitely exciting. My first thought was I hope the pilot doesn’t drop that thing. Something very exciting was to visit the Army Aviation Museum at Fort Rucker, AL. It was really cool to see the rotary and fixed wing aircraft on display as well as memorabilia from pst conflicts including Vietnam. Go Army!

We have free parking in Sweden. Time limited of course. With modern technology, you don't need a piece of chalk, just an instrument that reads the license plate. They got it. The store owners never actually wanted "the money", they wanted customers to be able to park. They got it.

George may have invented the electric guitar but... Les Paul perfected it and of course... Muddy Waters invented electricity! 😋

@@Sabotage_LabsOh because you remember it being in a movie it must be true 😂 Maybe you’re thinking of his greatest accomplishment being blues music. Electricity was discovered and starting to be used before he was alive.

@@caseyjc5 yea, Kiddo. I am aware lol. I'm a communications engineer and systems integrator and well versed in not just electricity but the people involved with it from Ben Franklin to Amperes and Ohms to Tesla and Edison.
I think it was just a funny southern saying because Muddy was one of the early touring blues man to popularized electric guitar in the blues scene.

@@caseyjc5 are you aware of humor and brevity? I have to ask because...who really believes anyone would believe Muddy Waters invented electricity? Do I need to put some sort of emoji to give ya a hint it's a joke?

The problem that the parking meter "solved" was income generation, not businessmen hogging parking spaces. After all, the businessmen need to park too. The actual problem was poor city planning: not designing enough parking for everyone. All they did was provide easier parking to one group of people by removing it from another group, while charging them money to park in spaces they already paid for with tax money. The lawyers were right- it's double taxation.
