Just got home from catching g a swarm at the local hardware store. Tomorrow I'm off for an hours drive to remove a colony from a garage wall. Seems like bee season is in full swing for all!

Great to finally see the update from the " tease" shot you gave us a few weeks ago over the greenhouse. Better yet that was a fantastic save with the bucket and pole. Suggestion, get a telescoping pole and tape a bucket to it and put it with your " swarm" kit so your ready for quick of property calls. Have a great day 🐝🌤

The swarm I caught three weeks ago is doing awesome! One of my three packages went queenless and I gave them a frame of larva and nurse bees from the swarm one. I’m wondering if I didn’t do the right thing because they had one E-queen cell capped already.
Was nice that you had a tractor lift adapter to get that swarm 🍯🐝

Would love to hear how the long works for you. Was excited to hear you speak at the HOA conference in Tennessee last month and am gathering knowledge so I can get started with bees in the spring. I’m in my early 50’s already so not sure for how many years I would be able to lift the regular Langstroth boxes.

I've been inspired to get into beekeeping after establishing a pretty decent orchard/garden on our property; so I have been watching your videos and soaking up all the knowledge! Really interested in hearing your thoughts on the horizontal hive, because I'm torn as to whether langstroth or layens would be best for our circumstances.

Oh man , most of the time I can reach the swarms with my 18’ extension pole with a two gallon bucket taped to the end . That thing rides with me everywhere. Last moth I had to let one go since it was five feet too high and no I will not use a ladder since I am always doing things by myself which sucks . I can’t find anyone else crazy like me who would want to mess with stinging insects. LoL

This is my first time watching you I'm just curious where you're located at
We are new to the bees we have one stand and I'm pretty sure we was able to stop the Swarm we added a super but I'm curious where you're located at I am in Kentucky I have had a couple people tell me the end of June no later than the middle of July for a swarm to make it through winter but I've had some say if u feed them they will be ok
I appreciate the tip using the bucket

I hope she respond to you - but in case not a little 2cents here... she is in Virginia. I live in high dessert Northern Nevada short warm season Cold winter not a lot of natural resources - and I’ve split a hive in August - I helped in October with Fat Bee food and supplemented with it through out the winter. I gave the new hive some drawn comb and a honey frame from the original hive and hoped for a good fall nectar flow. Oh a set the split literally 5 “ from the original. I had ordered a new bred queen before the split. In late fall through winter I gave them extra protection from wind made sure they had plenty of sun exposure. They came through Fabulous🤗 and strong👍🏼 So I’d say go for your split😃

I love my long Langstroth bee hive. They have been in it from February 2021 after 12 months in a 10 frame. Winter here in Queensland Australia and they have propolised the centre entrance so they have an entrance to the size they want. 10 frame to heavy for me. Long Langstroth Hive my back and legs thank me. I don't disturb the hive as much either. Best wishes.

  • @WhatsTheBuzz

2021 sure seams to be the year for swarms! We moved 2 nucs into 10 frames and despite plenty of room, feed, pollen and a good laying queen, swarm! Virgin queen, two weeks later she is mated, laying, lots of brood, and now charged swarm cells! Almost feels like they are making up for lost time or something, but I sure hope these girls chill and get down to building out the colonies so they are strong for winter.

Adventures in beekeeping, great stuff. Every beekeeper needs a lift bucket on their tractor, a pickup of course, and a walk in freezer. If you're out of equipment just say no to more swarms, especially this late in the season. A trick I use for swarms is to smoke the spot they were hanging on before you shook them off. it would not work this time of course.

You should cage her for a couple of days and put some brood in there so they don't leave. Especially if they came from your yard. Swarms like to go at least a mile away to help diversify their genes.
