    That unusual blade-to-hub junction looks particularly good at noise generation. That's on top of the crazy bearing noise.

      I think most of the noise (especially at lower speeds) comes from the commutation, but those things you mentioned certainly all add up.

    As a rule of thumb Sanyo Denki fans will always be quieter than a Delta for the same amount of airflow...but then some Delta fans have impressed me.

    At 900 RPM you can see keyboard's backlight being multiplexed row by row.

    Would you mind to redo this with dB as parameter instead?

    I'm actually looking on eBay for case fans. I found a lot of them for sale and they include some deltas. These fans draw 1.6 amps at 12 volts, but I do think that they would still be pretty loud. I'm going to prank my father by putting one in his office PC😂

    Wow. According to my dB meter App, jet planes are 120dB during take off & that's damaging to the ear after about 30 seconds. This fan's dangerous!
    edit...
    Ok, i've realised it's not in dB heh. Good for comparison anyway, as you say.

    • @ydihtty
      @ydihtty  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's not a dB meter, it's nowhere near that loud. It's still pretty loud though

    now i bought two of the same, may i ask how did you get the fan plugged in that you are able to control their speed through the software? I wanted to attach them to the heatsink of my processor so that they are controlled by the board CPU temperatures, it is clear to me that they must be powered from molex but when I swapped the pins in the connectors so that it goes from molex 12v power supply and from the board negative and yellow one to speed control so the fan did not start, I probably only have to plug the blue and yellow into the board, am I right?

    • @ydihtty
      @ydihtty  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I control the speed through hardware, with a Noctua NA-FC1. I have a split cable for this, with the power pins going straight to the PSU via molex, and the other two going to the controller. I think you are right with your assumption. Also, the fan on this video has inverted speed control - 0% PWM is full speed, while 100% PWM is stopped. I'm not sure if they're all like this.

    • @syduploads1990
      @syduploads1990 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Pwn signal are inverted on these TFC and PFC series so even if you swap the Yellow(PWM) wire and Blue (Tac) to standard PC 4 pin the fan would work in opposite, CPU heating up will cause this fan to slow down and a cool state will be 100% rpm annoying none the less. I bought a 3 dollar 8 channel Pwm Miner fan controller with a potentiometer which also works in opposite but does the Job.

    Hi, can you do the same test with rpm and loudness stats for qfr1212ghe?

    • @aicehuajill4319
      @aicehuajill4319 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have tow of this,i like it's blade so i bought it. But at daily 800-1500rpm, the blade wind cutting sound is significantly greater than the airflow sound,that's pretty noticeable, even when compared to cheap consumer grade products.

    • @aicehuajill4319
      @aicehuajill4319 ปีที่แล้ว

      Other than that, there is no appreciable motor and bearing noise. I bought it from an agent, and the price is about 9USD(66RMB) per unit,i think for some people who don't really care about a little bit of noise it's a good value for money

    • @ydihtty
      @ydihtty  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it can be annoying to power. I have a split extension cable for this - +12v and neutral go straight to the PSU via a molex connector, while the PWM and Tach go to my Noctua NA-FC1, which connects to my motherboard.

    • @ydihtty
      @ydihtty  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kadencabs Unless you want to do my split cable setup, your best bet is to use a Noctua NA-FC1. It can supply 3A, which is probably enough to run this fan at almost full speed. The rating on the sticker is generally the peak current draw if the rotor is stalled or something.

    the noise from these fans arent the blade design or the ball bearings ,they have a powerfull and strong motor ,thats why they are noisy as fuck ,also the reason why they can operate at massive speeds while sustaining no strain or damage ,they can last 5 years at full speed... these arent build for "comfy" ears xDDDD

    • @ydihtty
      @ydihtty  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the motor uses excessive power at low speeds and generally has excessive torque though. More modern fans that have similar performance will operate a lot quieter at lower speeds. The reduced torque is noticeable though in that they will generally take longer to spin up

    • @Wulfric001

      Same with drones brushless motors, mini 4 pro I can barely hear the propellers spinning, but the motor humming is way more audible

    • @ydihtty

      It is a pretty old design, not really optimised for acoustics at all.

    • @catinusz.4741

      It's a fan that gets the job done, with no regards to noise since normally it will be in server room anyways
