LOL. Neither Chicago or (especially) Styx are garage bands. The Buckinghams and the Ides of Match (as heard here) sort of were, early on. The Shadows of Knight definitely are archetypal garage, though.
I've never been prouder to be a Chicago-born musician, these guys are exemplary. I love the band Chicago too, my parents saw them many times. But there's something special about this group and Survivor. Jim Peterik is a local hero, founding both groups and smashing the charts in the late 60s and again in the early 80s. Not many people can claim that, if any.
"You Wouldn't Listen" was a local hit in Chicago reaching #7 at WLS radio in 1966. The song got to #42 nationally. "Vehicle" came out in 1970 reaching #2 in the U. S. and #3 in Canada.
dntamuu76 I did, too. After KILT fired Jim Wood on the night shift, I flipped to the Big 89 at night. KNUZ was too weak to get on my side of town. Later as an an adult I would become a DJ on both of those Houston stations.
..listening to a transistor radio while driving north late at night, going to Hayward WI in 1960s, WLS or KAAY came in great on the mini speaker. Ah nostalgia! Go Peterick!
I live in upstate South Carolina, and I would hear this song on WOWO Fort Wayne IN. 50,000 Watts. I could pick it up late at night. This is my favorite song by them.
Can't believe it's the same band that released Vehicle 4 years later. Love it. Heard it on Rockin' John's I Like It Like That radio show on WORT in Madison WI tonight. He plays the best stuff. Love garage rock.
....circa mid '60s driving north to our cottage in WI late night, had 10 transistors tuned to WLS or KAAY, whichever was receiving from 'deep space transmission'.......this song came through full strength.
I remember hearing this song on WLS through the cheap speaker of a small transistor radio at night in Reedsburg, WI back in the 60s, but missed that the Ides of March was the band. A quintessential 60's arrangement stills sounds great to these ears. WLS was the gateway to great music and had a large following in my little town. When the local stations went off the air at sundown, the 50,000 watt signal of WLS came in loud and clear.
I was 10 y.o. and hooked on radio. It's been an up and down ride over the years but overall, it's been pretty damn good. Now the net has made them pretty much irrelevant.
ah yes nostalgia at its best. Listening to KAAY while camping on a remote island in north WI in late 60s. What a trip to think that this band still performs. Its all a time machine in our mind!
I thought being the Ides of March today, it was appropriate it to listen to a few songs by them. I always liked this song, I forgot they did this song and they were a local band to me. Berwyn! I lived on the south side of Chicago then when this song came out. Beware the Ides of March, just kidding.
@bj9smith Hahaha, good ol' KAAY !!!! I heard songs on that station way before WLS and WOKY (Milwaukee) played them! In Wisconsin the AM stations always came in loud and clear.
Great tune from Peterick. Remember tuning in KAAY from Little Rock on an old TransOceanic radio in Hayward WI. WLS was just as strong but in the days of AM seeing how far away one could 'get culture' was cool. BTW Ides play in St Germain WI this Aug 4th 2012. yeah, yeah.
What are the groups/fans of great oldie songs opinions of sharing timeless music via karaoke? Karaoke is not sampling, by the way. Also, some lyrics are changed possibly for legal purposes.
I love the Chicago garage bands ... Ides of March, Shadows of Knight, The Buckinghams, Styx, Chicago, etc.
and don't forget the NEW COLONY SIX
and The Cryan' Shames They were great!!
@@EBthere and The Buckinghams!!
The Flock, Mauds, Riddles and The American Breed too
LOL. Neither Chicago or (especially) Styx are garage bands. The Buckinghams and the Ides of Match (as heard here) sort of were, early on. The Shadows of Knight definitely are archetypal garage, though.
Grew up in the 60's,,fantastic time to be here in Chicago!
Treasure. Thanks!
those 1960s radio waves from WLS just returned from deep space to my old transistor radio. What a trip in time hearing this song.
I live 500 miles to the North and WLS was always on my radio.... at night anyways!
I met Jim Peterrik a couple of times when I was working at WFLD Fox32. Very kind man, he even sang to my wife on video.
JP is awesome!

summer nights falling asleep with my little transistor radio on...listening to this song on WLS...great music & times..
I could pick up WLS late at night in Houston ,TX and remember this song well!
my teen years :) the best !!!

Yes! Both WLS and WCFL out of Chicago. John “Records” Landecker and Jonathan Brandmeier were two of my fav DJs.
When Chicago was in the center of Rock and roll
It still is - in my heart.
@@musiccollector It is to me, and I'm from the West Coast. Best bands are from Chicagoland.
Loved this song. Haven t heard it since the late 60 s. Forgot about it until I came across it tonight. No words.👍
I went 2 high school with these guys. This was always there best song.
This is the same 4 guys that started 58 years ago and are still playing.
I know.. I own a copy of the soundstage garage rock dvd
Saw them perform this song in 1966 when they opened for Paul Revere and the Raiders at the old Arie Crown Theater in Chicago.
I pull this 45 out, and "Rollercoaster," and blast them every March 15th!
..listening to a transistor radio while driving north late at night, going to Hayward WI in 1960s, WLS or KAAY came in great on the mini speaker. Ah nostalgia! Go Peterick!
I had the pleasure to meet Jim Peterik when I was working at WFLD Fox32 TV in Chicago some years ago.
This is a GREAT SONG; from another great group from the CHICAGO LAND AREA!! YES!!
Although the band is from Berwyn, IL there's an obvious British Invasion influence here. ☺
Jim Peterik is a cool guy, still living like a rock star!
Another great Chicago band and I did Listen to You!
The Ides best song…Vehicle is a close second….so very…very long ago…shout out to the teen years in Libertyville,Illinois…
Ron Foss Too bad those outside the Chicago area never had the privilege of hearing these great bands, unless they could tune in on WLS or WCFL!!
60s70sChicagoRock You got it!
+60s70sChicagoRock These songs did get played in Minneapolis on stations such as WDGY, KDWB, WWTC...we could also pick up The Big 89 WLS after dark.

I stand corrected, thanks! :)
WLS hooked me up in Romeoville!
Reminds me of the best summer I ever had.............1966

The Blue Village in Westmont. Buckinghams, Cryan Shames, others. Great music.
Went to high school with these guys. Great guys! also was in class with Dean Aliotta whose older brother was in Aliotta, Hanes, and Jeremia
I am a Chicago gal born in the late 60's. I like this song. Listen people when your friends warn you.
....circa mid '60s driving north to our cottage in WI late night, had 10 transistors tuned to WLS or KAAY, whichever was receiving from 'deep space transmission'.......this song came through full strength.
KAAY Little Rock, Arkansas? I could pick it up late at night in the Chicago suburbs.
great tune. cryin shames and ides of march, illinois"s finest,
this song should have been a big national hit.Hard to believe it wasn't. Big on WLS Chicago though. I could listen to this song over and over.
Berwyn! I always liked this song, and the fact that they were local boys! Some great bands came out of the Chicago area!!!!!!!!!!!
The best bands
Gahwud, I miss the garage band days
When I was 14 my band (After 6 Group ) opened for them at the Tiki Club in Orlando (or was it the Coconut Club ? LOL)
Made #21 in Canada, August 1966. :)
Got a lot of airplay down here in Texas
underrated band. great 60s song
one of my very fav songs.

I still love this song
Havent heard this tune in what like over 45 years . This and Roller Coaster were great tunes.
The guitar remind me of Tired Of Waiting For You by The Kinks.
Así es , lo mismo note amigo.
I think it does too.
great post.....its been a long time....neighbor to the north ... great town of Milwaukee
Just an awesome group.
Love this song first time I ever heard it thanks james
Every March 15th, I make a face book posting with this title and artist, to see if anyone gets it! Most do.

I heard this song first time on WYSL FM in Buffalo in the late sixties. A great song. thanks for posting it,
Loved this. I mailed away to the record company for the 45 single.
I had to do the same with this song, as well as their next single "You Need Love"
Dex Cards Wild Goose in waukegan,Il back in 1966!
Wow!
Probably saw you there! Grew up in Libertyville. Friday nights in Waukegan.
Jim peterik is great
This group is the same group that gave us "Vehicle".
Their song "LA Goodbye" is a great tune. Look for their very good live versions too.
I hear The Kinks' "Tired Of Waiting" in the opening riff.
Yes, the rhythm guitar reeks of "Tired Of Waiting For You".
Me too!!!!!
Kinks sued them and won big
WLS HIT!!
LOVE this, haven't heard this one in years, great song!! thanks so much for posting it!!
great jangly folk rock garage pop classic!
it was big in Orlando on WLOF channel 95.
Now I have to google that Orlando Station.
almost made it in NYC .And f I loved it ......

great song thanks
I loved wls. john records landecker. awsome!
Stole my thought! Still a great tune.
A great song from the summer of 1966 by the same Chicago group that would later hit it big (in 1970) with "Vehicle."

They sure did!!!
@@lilsuzq32 thanks much
Yes, original by Van Morrison & Them.
@@lilsuzq32 It's the best version. Also check out their song "Dark Side".
A great, great song ... almost four years before their big hit ("Vehicle") in 1970.
When "Vehicle" came out in 1970, I thought it was a new hit by Blood, Sweat & Tears, who were big during that time.
What are the groups/fans of great oldie songs opinions of sharing timeless music via karaoke? Karaoke is not sampling, by the way. Also, some lyrics are changed possibly for legal purposes.
"I'll Keep Searching" is the flip side
Another great song.
Like the slide show!
Good one
@krugcpa Are you talking about Reedsburg, Wisconsin? I, too, grew up there, graduated in 1966. Listened to WLS a lot.
SUCH A GREAT SONG GOOD VOCALS AND INSTURMENTS
@deane bray It does have a British Invasion sound.
It was part of the music during that period.
Very cute post Emily 😀
She wouldn't listen to him.
I dont blame her.
@Marfette24 Yes. I am Class of 1975.
Vocals sort of sound like Peter & Gordon.
I thought they were a one hit wonder.
Cap'n Crunch - "L.A. Goodbye" was also a hit for them.
Ides of march are a mega all star group
Vehicle was their only hit
@@60s70sChicagoRock Where was L A Goodbye a hit for Ides of March ?
@@juliereminiec4937 It was #1 on the charts here in Chicago for five weeks in '71. And for some other Midwest areas, it was a hit.
