Yep! especially "Lawyers..." lol I kinda resented how dumbass Kid Rock ripped off this intro (along with melody of "Sweet Home Alabama" for the song "all summer long".. would've been an okay song if he'd actually written any part of it... what a talent-less loser...)
“There might be three separate songs within a Zevon song, but they're all effortlessly connected. Zevon was a musician's musician, a tortured one." -- Bob Dylan
A very underrated singer/songwiter. Much of his work is darkly humourous. Lawyers Guns and Money proobably his darkest. Definitely worth a listen. Another one we lost to soon.
I don’t think you can find another video where everyone playing is so close to cracking up, it’s so obvious they were having a great time doing this! Warren Zevon has so many songs, definitely check out more
There is so much more. Warren was often funny and deep. You should sample the Excitable Boy album. Not a bad song on it. Check out Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner and Lawyers, Guns and Money. He has plenty of fans and plenty of great, no, greater songs. I love Werewolves but Zevon (long E) was a lyrical genius. Keep up the good work, Shawn.
Dude, you're hitting gold lately. Warren Zevon has so much that's worth listening to. Carmelita, The Hula Hula Boys, Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner, My Ride's Here, Mutineer... the list could go on and on. RIP to the man.
You should check out Desperados under the Eaves, Splendid Isolation, Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner... So many great songs by this underrated artist
Desperados Under the Eaves is probably his greatest song, but it helps to know the context. He wrote this song at a very trying time in his life, living from motel to motel and in a drunken, desperate state. One of the best lines ever is in this song, at least in my opinion: "and if California slides into the ocean--like the mystics and statistics say it will, I predict this motel will be standing until I pay my bill." And he snuck out of the hotel without paying his bill, with the help of one of the old Beach Boys. He went back after he gained success and tried to pay the bill, though.
Actually it is Zee-Von. Lee Ho Fuk's was an actual restaurant in London, that kept Beef Chow Mein on the menu for decades because of this song. Never got to see Warren Zevon live (RIP Warren), but I did see the good ol' Grateful Dead cover it a couple of times, and it is pretty cool when 18,000 folks start howling.
"Lawyers Guns and Money" is another good one and of course "Carmelita" covered by Jackson Brown and Linda Ronstadt. Zee-von emphasis on the first syllable :) he was a favorite guest on Letterman for years Always a pleasure to share a tune with you. Thanks for this one!
Had the fortune to have met WZ along with Phil Everly back in '00. An enigmatic guy, but very cordial. His catalog is a bit spotty, but it's all heartfelt. His self-titled album is my favorite with great tunes like "Hasten Down The Wind," "Desperados Under The Eaves" and his original version of "Poor Poor Pitiful Me."
The 1935 movie Werewolf of London starring Henry Hull used to be on latenight TV constantly in the 60s and 70s. That's where a couple of the references come from.
It's a shame that many people only know Zevon from this one (basically novelty) hit. He has an amazing catalogue of bangers. Carmelita, Reconsider Me, Accidentally like a Martyr, Lawyers Guns and Money, Run Straight Down... the well is a deep one. A musician's musician - the list of people he's worked with and influenced is astonishing. RIP WZ.
As already mentioned, Zevon = Zee Von emphasis on first. Also, Wachtel = Walk Tell emphasis on second. Not a one hit wonder but not every bodies taste. Well respected and a favorite and frequent guest on David Letterman. When WZ was dying, Letterman gave him the whole hour of the show to talk about life and play music. Plenty to explore here.
His brilliance here is in the well-known societal references he used in the lyrics. Many people have mentioned “Mayfair/tailor”, “Trader Vic’s/hair was perfect” and even the title being from a well known movie. I always loved him mentioning Lon Chaney (who died in 1930) & Lon Chaney Jr. (who had just died in 1973) and who were both extremely well known as actors specializing in playing in “monster” roles- particularly a werewolf. Brilliant!
WOW Never Knew Jackson Browne Performed it. I Was A Teenager When Jackson Browne put Out "Running On Empty". I Really Would love to Hear Him Do the Song You Can Bet He's Amazing !
This song came out way before Kid Rock. Warren Zevon, pronounced Zeevon, was a flok writer and a qoute of his before he passed he said, "I could have went down in history known as a folk singer and writer, but for that one song."
It’s a HUGE chunk of WoL, and far more than I think is defensible. Yeah, we’re also always disappointed when it turns out to be Kid Rock (the little shit) instead of the Real Thing.
Warren Zevon was a national treasure. You’ve got to check out “Lawyers, Guns and Money” next. After that, “Excitable Boy” and “Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner.” Great stuff!
Waddy is a huge session guitarist, and played as a touring lead guitarist for bunches and bunches of big performers. Also, you missed the great story of * _how_ * Mick Fleetwood and John McVie got to be on the record itself. Warren Zevon was a musician's musician. He was known mostly as a songwriter, more than a performer, which is why he's regarded as a "one hit wonder", but really not. My favorite line is "... and his hair was perfect." What better way to describe a community terror, eh?
This song is brought up in the new documentary "The Immediate Family" of which Waddy is featured along with Danny "Kootch" Kortchmar, Leland Sklar and Russ Kunkel. Very well done by Denny Tedesco who also did The Wrecking Crew.
Shawn it's Been Sampled in Many Movies Like American Werewolf in London & Others. Great Music often is Sampled in Movies. It's Hilarious for Reaction Channels to Suddenly Review A Song they Don't know And See their Reaction they Heard A Bit Sampled in Some Movie but Didn't Know Whom was original Performer of it !
Warren Zevon is my favorite artist. This is probably his biggest mainstream hit, but doesn't do justice to his work. Besides some of the other wonderful songs already mentioned here, Desperadoes Under the Eaves is just fantastic.
Definitely not a one-hit wonder. Tons of great music to explore with Warren Z. Check out a song called The Envoy, and see how appropriate a song from 1982 can still be to world politics today. As someone else said, the entire Excitable Boy album is fantastic. You could hang the album cover on the wall and throw a dart at it, and whatever song it hit next to would be fantastic, guaranteed.
The creative process of this song perfectly depicts why Zevon was considered the Rocker's rocker. He was definitely not a one hit winder. His song Play it All Night Long is a great counter part to both Neil Young's Southern Man and Lynyrd Skynyrd's Sweet Home Alabama.
You are hearing the similarity of Lynrd Skynrd’s Sweet Home Alabama. Warren Zevon is such a unique and missed artist. His song writing has humor and wit with a dark twist. Linda Ronstadt also recorded a few of his songs. He is definitely not a one hit wonder. ✌🏽
I do believe you're right about it being a metaphor. I feel like the fashionable outsiders haunting London could be the lgbt community. Also, he refers to Lon Chaneys Sr. and Jr. walking with a queen. Clearly not the only way to hear it, but it seems to fit.
You gotz to do exitable boy. And somehow that song is new to me. Somehow that song was banned where i grew up i guess. I dunno i know alot of his songs, NOT that one.
Ya Shawn it's Zee von. He was much more than that one song he's a legend. He put out an emotional album about 20 years ago as he was dying. Keep Me in Your Heart For Awhile is a great one from that.
The term "I'd like to meet his tailor" means he the Werewolf is packing a big package inside his pants so much so that he needs his pants custom tailored to fit the size of his junk. That is how in real life the same "I'd like to meet his tailor" phrase is used on fellow human males not Werewolves to convey the physical/sexual imposing quality of that person.
He was too smart to write the simplistic crap that made "a hit", especially during his time, unless it was ironic or accidentally. Brilliant and fascinating songwriter, though. "Excitable Boy" is one trippy masterpiece! ❤
It’s a shame this was his only hit song. His satirical writing was genius. He and Jackson Browne were good friends and he was a favorite of late night talk show host David Letterman. He died way too young, rip.😊
This was a JOKE SONG made up for Halloween, they used the Beat for *Sweet Home Alabama* they had a little Halloween Party in L.A. But a few years later Warren wanted to record it, and of course Skynard was like, go for it man. They weren't stealing the riff. Lon Chaney played the Werewolf in the Movie *Werewolves of London* circa 1935. P.S. not having hits doesn't mean you are no good, Ryan Adams shows us that, pop songs make hits, not many rock band really ever had HITS to be honest.
Love some Warren Zevon, "Excitable Boy" "Lawyers, Guns and Money" many others, great songwriter.
Yep! especially "Lawyers..." lol I kinda resented how dumbass Kid Rock ripped off this intro (along with melody of "Sweet Home Alabama" for the song "all summer long".. would've been an okay song if he'd actually written any part of it... what a talent-less loser...)
“There might be three separate songs within a Zevon song, but they're all effortlessly connected. Zevon was a musician's musician, a tortured one." -- Bob Dylan
A requirement of my kids and grandkids was to learn this song as soon as they could talk. Drove my wife crazy!

Don't forget, 'My shit's fucked up"
or Lawyers, Guns and Money!
Carmelita is fantastic
You should check out Desperados under the Eaves, Splendid Isolation, Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner... So many great songs by this underrated artist
Desperados Under the Eaves is probably his greatest song, but it helps to know the context. He wrote this song at a very trying time in his life, living from motel to motel and in a drunken, desperate state. One of the best lines ever is in this song, at least in my opinion:

Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner would be a good reaction when you see Zevon live the crowd spontaneously sings the chorus.
Spelling correction, it is Lee Ho FOOK's. Gotta get it right.
Warren Zevon. The legend.
I love this song.
An absolute must listen from WZ is "Detox Mansion," a straight-up banger about his time in rehab, just dripping with his unmistakable sarcasm..
RIP Warren.
Linda Ronstadt also recorded Zevon's "Poor Poor Pitiful Me''.
Should definitely do Lawyers, Guns, and Money.

If I ever learned how to play Piano this is the first song I would want to learn. Great rockin' piano!!!!!
Mr. Zevon had a few other really good songs including, "Lawyers, Guns and Money" and "Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner".
"His hair was....PERFECT!
what a great song ..i never tire of this one
Another awesome tune... Warren is great.
Love this...well used around Halloween time..great tune 🎶🎤
Lawyers Guns and Money is my favorite of his.
I saw him live in Vancouver about 30 years ago. Great concert!
"Savile Row" is a street in London famed for its tailors. It's in the "Mayfair" district.
Warren Zevon was so underrated
Awhooooooo!
Such an awesome song!!
Another great banger! Kid rock did use it with another famous song and created "all summer long" . Keep rocking !
He also had a rollicking duet with Springsteen called Disorder in the House!
"you better stay away from him ... he'll rip your lungs out, jim"
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you! Thank you for your great reactions.🎉❤
Had never heard of him before. Had to buy this on a 45 when it came out.
Kid Rock All Summer Long sounds pretty much the same, great reaction, you're the best out there, always take time to research
He sampled it. Makes me disappointed when I hear that intro and it's not Werewolves
It’s a HUGE chunk of WoL, and far more than I think is defensible. Yeah, we’re also always disappointed when it turns out to be Kid Rock (the little shit) instead of the Real Thing.
This beat underscores the entirety of All Summer Long by Kid Rock.❤❤
Warren Zevon was a national treasure. You’ve got to check out “Lawyers, Guns and Money” next. After that, “Excitable Boy” and “Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner.” Great stuff!
Knock knock,:
Who's there?
Ah!
Ah who?
Warewolves of London! 😂
"enjoy every sandwich"
Check out Warren's song Boom Boom Mancini.
Waddy is a huge session guitarist, and played as a touring lead guitarist for bunches and bunches of big performers. @jimmymayors2315, my favorite line of the song is also.......and his hair was perfect. No one had better music than the 70s!!😎😎😎😎
This song is brought up in the new documentary "The Immediate Family" of which Waddy is featured along with Danny "Kootch" Kortchmar, Leland Sklar and Russ Kunkel. Very well done by Denny Tedesco who also did The Wrecking Crew.
@@noheamike5036 Denny is Tommy's son....
Zee-von. Another great classic. Metaphorical for sure.
He is much respected among other artists. Has many good songs, but he wasn't for the top 40 crowd. Worth taking a look at other songs.
"I saw a werewolf drinking a pinacolato at Trader Vic's, and his was perfect," I laughed so hard at these lyrics. Great old song.
There is much more Warren Zevon to check out!
Thank you sir, you got it in one, uk bricklayer👍
Warren Zevon is my favorite artist. This is probably his biggest mainstream hit, but doesn't do justice to his work. Besides some of the other wonderful songs already mentioned here, Desperadoes Under the Eaves is just fantastic.
Great song and the album this was on had so many great aongs.
Good ear, Kid Rock definitely ripped it off.
Michael Shrieve, late of Santana, on drums.
Werewolves Of London was from the movie sound track of the same name.
The creative process of this song perfectly depicts why Zevon was considered the Rocker's rocker. He was definitely not a one hit winder. His song Play it All Night Long is a great counter part to both Neil Young's Southern Man and Lynyrd Skynyrd's Sweet Home Alabama.
“His hair was perfect”…
Good one Shawn, yea man, Zevon was a good songwriter even thou it didn't show in the charts. But he was well respected by his peers.
Waddy Wachtel has been part of Keith Richards’ Expensive Winos
"Sweet Home Alabama" from 1974 by Lynyrd Skynyrd was the father for both this and that Kid Rock ditty
"enjoy every sandwich!" RIP.....
Is that Michael Shrieve on drums??
You are hearing the similarity of Lynrd Skynrd’s Sweet Home Alabama. Warren Zevon is such a unique and missed artist. His song writing has humor and wit with a dark twist. Linda Ronstadt also recorded a few of his songs. He is definitely not a one hit wonder. ✌🏽
Stuff was taboo at the roller rink back in the 70s
😍😍😍
But thank you for the reaction. I gotta go find my roller skates now. I gotta make that a macro i guess.
You have to react to Warren Zevon’s Song “Excitable Boy”
I’d like to meet his tailor. 😂
Check out Excitable Boy
I do believe you're right about it being a metaphor. I feel like the fashionable outsiders haunting London could be the lgbt community. Also, he refers to Lon Chaneys Sr. and Jr. walking with a queen. Clearly not the only way to hear it, but it seems to fit.
❤😊
Kid Eock used it summertime
Laywers guns and money. Excitable boy.
You gotz to do exitable boy. And somehow that song is new to me. Somehow that song was banned where i grew up i guess. I dunno i know alot of his songs, NOT that one.
It's pronounced Zee von.
Pronounced Zeeee-von. My favorite Zevon is" The French Inhaler."
Ya Shawn it's Zee von. He was much more than that one song he's a legend. He put out an emotional album about 20 years ago as he was dying. Keep Me in Your Heart For Awhile is a great one from that.
That was Lynerd Skynerd
If you want a serious song of his try "Prison Grove".
Their is a movie werewolves of London
sweet home alabama

Please check out "Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner"
What's happenin Jack ?
Everything on the Excitable Boy album is fun except maybe Johnny Strikes Up the Band.
Send Guns Lawyers and Money is fun song to check out.
Plus a wolf has a tail right ?
If it was Skid Rock stole. He ripped the original Skynrd for It. Watchell played with Linda Ronstadt
Zee/von
ZEE-von.
