I got married a couple of years out of high school to a man who was 10 years older than me, a doctor, and who owned his own house (bought with money he inherited). Five days before the wedding he said he wanted me to sign a pre-nup. Blind-sided and with the wedding days away, I did. Ten years later, he left me with nothing for a woman he'd been cheating on me with.
During those 10 years of marriage, we moved constantly for his career, I worked for him in his practice(s) and our lives revolved entirely around him. It's taken 20 years of struggle to find a tiny bit of financial stability. Women need to make sure they're financially secure before they get involved with anyone AND they need to be wary of _who_ they let into their lives.

Your story sounds like BS. Any lawyer worth the piece of paper that bears their law degree will tell you that the “agreement” that you signed 5 days to the wedding and without your own lawyer looking at it, would be thrown out of court faster than stale cheese.

Anyone who has substantial assets, children and/or future inheritance coming should look into a prenup to protect themselves and their kids. Glad Whoopi talked about last will and testaments. Far too many people, especially parents, do not have a last will and testament. Family members fight over money and heirlooms. Family members also fight over guardianship of minor kids. Sometimes for and sometimes against. People, especially parents, should not think that their own parents or sibling will take in their minor kids. They need to have a talk to confirm before putting it in their will.

Also the same man who said "If your going into a marriage already preparing for the worst then your already planning to fail" Women have been on his show saying they would never get a prenup and should never be with a man who asks for one. I have been dwelling on this issue for a very long time. I have watched friends and especially family members who did not leave a will.....it's a flippin' nightmare. I have downloaded forms to develop a Trust and am working on filing it out right now. I DO NOT want to leave my loved one's homeless and without anything to help them when I leave this earthly plane! Thank you "The VIEW" for motivating me to finish this paperwork!

Best advice "Make a Will!"....I have so many friends in their 60's who don't have wills. I have a trust and a pour over will, primarily because I've accumulated a certain level of wealth, and I have pets that I want to make sure are taken care of. So no one gets anything until those pets are in good and fully vetted homes!

One of the definitions of child is "a son or daughter; offspring considered with regard to parents." So age has nothing to do with it.
They are adults. But if I want to insure that my money goes to MY children or grandchildren - I need to insure that. Wills (even prenups) can be broken. So I need to do whatever I can.

I remember Judge Judy discussed prenuptial agreements with Marlo Thomas back in 2012.
50 percent of marriages end in divorce. Those with prenuptial agreements spike up to 95percent. Casting seeds of doubt before a marriage is never a good idea.

Wearing a seat belt doesn't mean you will get into an accident but incase you do it lessen the blow. Having insurance on your house, car and health doesn't mean the house will have anything wrong but if it does you are protected.

As far as I am concern, asking to sign a pre-nup is a test question. If one refuses, then that person is a gold digger. One should gladly accept an opportunity to sign a pre nup because, obviously the one who is asking a pre nup to be signed is successful, then the one who has to sign can enjoy the fruits from that success as a married partner. Refusing to sign will not get you married and you can not enjoy any fruits.

Get a prenup because then it makes things very simple. Divorces can take years and all your money. Is your have an agreement, it massively shortens it. And look, you can get a prenup which says he gets half your money, the prenup didn't have to be that he gets nothing. But the Average cost of divorce is like $40,000 in the UK and I can't imagine it's better in the USA. Because of all the back and forth arguing egged on by lawyers.
