You handled yourself well. The "Travel Safe" goons tried their best to be intimidating but come across as bullies and like all bullies when their intimidation fails go running to daddy (BTP). The BTP guy whilst sounding professional and proper failed at everything. Asking for your name after you had said it multiple times shows that he wasn't listening and his single brain cell was busy trying to recite the training script. Totally understand why you gave details so that you could get home, the fight can take place later in a civil court, no need to waste your time when your kids are more important than a minor principle.

While you're absolutely right, it's even more reason to keep 'filming anything we choose in our lives' the honest, legal thing that it is. It's when a stigma gets attached to normal actions that we withdraw further into fear and imprisonment.
After all if filming public events is inherently bad, why is every company, organisation and government doing it everywhere? incessantly.
I know you're not suggesting such, but when something is done with love and honesty, we should always defend it.

Its one thing to keep an eye on people like this, it's quite another to engineer these encounters in an attempt to make them look bad. I served twenty years as a Guard with British Rail and I have never known anything like this. In my job I had to take a three hour verbal entrance examination which was re-taken every two years. I had to work alone and I was armed with only a whistle, detonators and ticket nippers. We didn't have fools wandering round with all that gear stuck to their fronts and a bad attitude. Even in my day the British Transport Police were rather incompetent and stupid and I have to admit that I enjoyed running rings around them when they got things wrong or tried to get out of doing their jobs properly or refusing to act on my instructions. I've had many a laugh when recalling the antics of the BTP in cities around the country and how I left them speechless after confronting me with BS. They really do take on that job because they are incapable of doing anything else. As for these new clowns on the block, we don't need goons. We need porters and chargemen back, we need barriers for entry and exit points not electronic gates. A lot of crime is committed onboard a train and we used to deal with it swiftly, that's why the Guard is there and we would only call the police to take somebody away as a last resort after the individual persisted. Most criminal types think that they can get away with crimes committed on a train and are taken aback when they don't, but even more staggering is the incompetence of the BTP. I would have to spend hours writing reports and preparing evidence for the court. Prevention is better than cure.

I’m a former police officer - here are your options with police
    “Are you a police officer?”
    “No”
    You leave.
    “Are you a police officer?”
    “Yes”
Start recording on your phone, then ask -
“Can I see ID, and take your constabulary, surname and badge number?”
    They must provide this
Inform them that if they conduct themselves unlawfully you will provide video evidence, lodge a formal complaint, take the video evidence to your solicitor and take them to court
    Then ask -
    “Am I detained?”
    “No”
    You leave
If they inform you that you are detained, then you must comply with what they are doing, but you should still record and also ideally get witnesses around you. They must inform you of the reason for you being detained. If they do not, then they are acting unlawfully. Once they inform you that you are detained, the best thing you can do is to remain absolutely silent, only asking for legal representation as soon as possible.

Unfortunately it's the actions of a significant minority of the travelling public and their being able to conduct themselves in an orderly manner that has necessitated the need for the Travel Safe Officers.
The railway is merely reacting to circumstances by creating these positions.
Most travelling passengers, and station users, are blissfully unaware of the Railway Bylaws. Why? Because they do no engage in inappropriate behaviour and do not draw attention to themselves in a negative way.
Unfortunately a small number do and their behaviour has a disproportionate effect on the rest - and the staff that have to deal with it. From anti social behaviour to fare evasion.
Taking regular rail staff away from their operational duties to deal with these matters impacts negatively on the service provision so dedicated bylaw enforcement teams have been created. This is at the behest of many stakeholders in the railway including the unions, passenger groups, & station retailers.
Unfortunately they are necessary, some might say a necessary evil, but necessary nonetheless.
Now, to the matter at hand. An allegation was made against Charlie Veitch, probably to the guard on the train, he has been unable to resolve the matter amicably, has deemed the allegation worthy of further investigation, and has requested assistance. What the allegation is about is unknown, and crucially to the Travel Safe Officers is unknown to them until they have discussed matters with both parties. A normal passenger with nothing to hide would be very keen, IMO, to "clear" his name and most would engage with the staff. Normally at that many allegations mysteriously dissappear as the complainer decides that THEY don't want the hassle when offered the chance to make it "offical". Things happen, often these situations are just "something & nothing". Life moves on.
However, when the person, against whom an allegation is made, does not engage that raises the suspicions of the persons tasked with investigating the matter. When you come across as defensive people will assume that you have something to defend (or hide). Basic psychology.
Ultimately Charlie himself escalated matters until, under duress, he was forced to give his name & address. He could have done so to the Travel Safe Officers at the start, then disengaged and been on his merry way. He does not have to defend, nor explain, his actions - it's up to the complainer to establish that.
I don't know what the allegation was about however let's create a scenario. I've seen Charlie kick & push members of the public before, in all cases justifiable. Now, let's say Charlie is filming on the train and a passenger takes exception and attempts to take Charlie's camera from him with force. Charlie defends himself by pushing the passenger away. As it is on a moving train the passenger loses his balance and falls over. The passenger accuses Charlie of assault & there are other, independent, witnesses who corroborate his account. NB for this scenario these witnesses are not lying but are giving a truth account from their perspective (e.g. they were not in a position to see the original attempted camera grab).
So, now we have created an incident (for the avoidance of doubt I'm not suggesting this actually happened) worthy of investigation. In this case if an assault took place the person involved would generally not wish to engage and may try to flee the scene. It is incumbent on the investigators to establish the facts -

I think you guys are missing the whole point? He KNOWS him being in certain areas and certain situations are going to cause issues like the one in the video above, BUT the whole point is he is intentionally putting himself in that position to educate the viewers on how to deal with a situation like this so we don't get caught out if/when this happens to us (the viewers) Normal everyday citizens are too quick to bow to being asked to leave a public place when we do not have too, we are also too quick to give our details when we do not have too (unless the officer has been informed of an allegation like in the above video) For instance if you are randomly walking along a public place filming (legally) and an officer approaches and asks who you are, where you live, what your upto etc etc you do not have to interact and give any personal details. That's basically the whole point in him posting this video and has nothing to do with him "looking for trouble" It's to educate. Just like when he helps tourists or people who might not be aware that they have the opportunity to pick up litter when they drop it instead of standing giving personal details to the laughable 3GS litter patrol and paying a £120 fine that is basically being dished out by scammers in uniforms. Keep watching and stay educated 👍🏻

Yeah Come On Charlie...... What happened......
It's clear you've been shouting at some people on the Train and making a bit of a Spectacle man.... We know that's what you do.... We watch your videos ....
Fair play- if Dave got a camera on the train, they can Show the whole world if they want. If there's no Cams, No evidence, No crime.... Well no... actually. That works in theory, but if you have corroborated witnesses, Let's say 5 people saying you did something and all their stories are the same, and you were in Court, 5 Against 1, then obviously It would be Highly likely to play out in their favour, Even if they were lying. That's just the way it works. Unless the Judge had a Very Clear picture of the situation, which they may well do.
Anyway, I'm sure nothing will come of it. If you were just shouting at people on the train, then It could well have been justified- that depends on the specific situation. Having relative fame also plays into consideration for determining Justice. I know that you don't want to Label whatever happened as an 'incident'. Of course, Nobody wants that to happen when they're deemed to be the one causing it, but there are always people who are at different places on the Relative Scale, when it comes to what they believe is Right and Wrong, Good and Bad, Just and Unjust.
When you're the Sting in the Scorpions tail, of course you get a ripple effect, of other people's reaction. So being the Sting comes back with Exponential Stings from all angles..... Damn, what can I say? Try to be something other than a Scorpion

In the UK you don't have the right to remain silent prior to an arrest, only afterwards. In the US you have the right to remain silent at all times and your silence can't be used as a reason to arrest you.

I am a huge fan of yours, I love your videos usually. But this was immensely embarrassing, I cannot believe that if you had not broken any law, you folded so badly, you collapsed like a deck of cards. That police officer had no right to obtain your details, but you just handed them over. A demonstration of how not to protect your rights and freedoms. And you demonstrating that is so disappointing.

According to Charlie, he didn't break any laws. On that basis, absolutely not required to give up any personal information. If we go down that road, we got troubles in this country. This isn't Nazi Germany. But Charlie demonstrating there that when an officer "demands your papers", just hand them right over (metaphor).

Officer, did you witness any breach of the law?
Do you have a sworn witness statement from someone willing and able to testify under oath in a court of law?
Any further action on your part will be deemed as harassment under the color of law.

More numpties in action. What was with the mate/pal stuff. These guys are stretching the meaning of Law and their authority under it. No way can they arrest without evidence -- Charlie should have asked them to articulate - what crime is he suspected of - and what is the evidence that gives them reasonable grounds to suspect him of anything. Charlie got conned by the threat of arrest.
