  • Pushing 3 differently-priced wireless audio kits to their limits! All these 3 were rated for a range of 100m, so I took them out for a walk.

    as someone with an amateur ham radio license I know that antennas like the transmitter and receiver have radiate outwards in a 'donut 'shape - meaning there's a hole in the transmission in the direction you point the antennas- meaning though the saramonic receiver cold shoe mount allows to mount on top of the camera it makes you point the antennas directly at the talent (where teh camera is facing)- ie pointing a hole in the reception towards the talent- if you really want optimal range better to mount the receiver so the antennas on the receiver are somewhat parallel to or at an angle to the transmitter antennas- just not pointing directly towards the transmitter antennas..

    This is such a great video, really shows the distance these pics can go which is very useful for people who want to do prank or social experiment videos.

    In an open space with barely any obstruction from other signals and buildings or structures, this is not a useful (real world) test. However I appreciate the time and effort :)

    Nice test. Love your videos! But for the price the Saramonic really did quite well.

    powerlines created the interference... very high EMF area... you need to do it away from high voltage... radio/microwave towers.. basically anything that broadcasts or creates strong radio or magnetic waves.. im sure you can tell the 2 higher quality mics died directly underneath it.. this is why weather is closely monitored for military interactions.. the high charges and suden discharges of electricity creates havic in wireless communications..

    Nice test. Think you should also do a similar one in a busier area like in the heart of the city where various interference become a factor. Thanks for the effort!

    thanks in advance but, WHAT WAS THE SETUP FOR OUTPUT POWER ON THE SARAMONIC.?? on G3 or RODE you can not change that.

    There are 3 levels of the radio power at Saramonic - basic level is the medium. Try test at the highest!

    A really bad comparison test. You should do it indoors or around buildings. The results will not be the same. You'll get great range, line of sight with any system.

    interesting video but why on earth do people keep testing 300ft from camera - who on earth does that? 99.5% of film makers will be a few foot from the camera or in the same room - maybe 20ft in a field?

    Very good video. Why use wireless than let say using zoom h1 with neck mic ?

    • @zy_cheng
      @zy_cheng  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's pros and cons to both, I'm actually in the midst of editing a video that explains the differences :)

    • @martinXY
      @martinXY 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Using a wireless lets you capture the audio with the video at the same time. No need to synchronise the audio with the video in your editing suite. That's not much of a problem with a long continuous shoot, but if you have lots of small clips, then it becomes a pain to sync in post.

      The Sony UWP series are on a par with the Sennheisers. I've used the Sonys for years. They are reliable and bullet proof.

    Be sure to buy the models that use the 500 MHz band. I see the 600MHz models which are still for sale on Amazon. They will be out of compliance with the USA FCC after July 13, 2020. This goes for any UHF wireless mics.

    Pointless test. Professionals would never be that far away from their receiver.

    • @martinXY
      @martinXY 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Useful as a comparison test since all three mics were tested under the same conditions. The Rode and the Sennheiser outperform the Saramonic, so user other conditions one could expect the same, though the distances may be different.

    • @PradigyMusicman
      @PradigyMusicman 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      martinXY you speak in general not specifics. Rode and Sennheiser are pro audio companies with years of experience in Microphone technology so they should be better. His test of walking far away out of camera frame is pointless. A better test would be walking around a crowded area where people and other radio frequencies can cause drop out. Please see my video on wireless monitors to understand

      Working a reality tv gig I found the range on my wireless systems recently. Host and celebrity guest at one end of a track around a football field and contestants moving around the track. Luckily the cameras all were set to follow the contestants so once I passed the limit of the radios I didn't need audio from them. Still would've been nice to monitor them in case there was something interesting in the conversation. It can all be used in reality tv. So under some conditions you could need the best range possible but rarely.
