From a long time LEO, the proper words, the proper words are "I was in fear for my life and I stopped the threat." An extra layer of protection is to refuse any comment until your lawyer is present. "I stopped the threat." needs to be your mantra.
I am having chest pains, shortness of breath". I need EMS. They usually will stop asking questions. At the hospital you might be given a sedative so nothing you say will be admissable.
That's what the police say. It works for them evertime. Doesn't work in NY.
There’s only one rule: don’t lose.
What makes you think there's a winner?
This channel is interesting, and I'm sure this guy is a helluva fighter, but you gotta disregard all this "fair play" legal bullshit. I been in literally around 100 street fights in my life. As a young buck growing up in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco (among other places), a street fight was an everyday standard thing. I think my record is 3 different fights in 3 different places within 1.5 hours. All that said? I never ONCE stuck around to deal with any fallout from a fight. 1st rule? Win as fast as you can. 2nd rule? Always stay on your feet and aware of your environment - none of this MMA grappling on the ground bullshit. What's to stop someone from coming up behind you and kicking your head in if you're rolling around on the ground like an idiot? Final rule? Insta-vanish after. All this "getting into trouble" nonsense doesn't apply if you ain't around after. Phone cameras? The fight's over way before anyone whips out a camera, at least if you know what the fuck you're doing.
Yep, definitely only ever fight as a last resort. But once you're in it, the only thing that matters is to win or at least survive by any fuckin means necessary. If you get killed in a fight, what the fuck good did the "rules" do you?
your points are very sensible, there is a group of videos on you tube called "fight fast",they say a similar thing.
cool story that you made up bro
As a young buck growing up in extremely dangerous places I was involved in ten thousand street fights. I won every single one. I think my record was 30 fights in 30 minutes.
@@flamecolumn 🤣 were did you find the time to go for a piss.
@@stuppittyhed hahaha every single word I said was true, but you can think whatever you like. hell, those are just the tip of the crazier stories I have. some people have lived actual lives and don't just hide behind a computer in some suburb. sad that other people are so sheltered they can't even imagine what that's like.
If they move forward into you, a low knee/shin kick is a good opener.
A high punch is offensive, a low kick appears defensive.
i think of every fight as life a death because anything can happen. and you can't control what happen.
I have over 40 years of martial arts training (several arts), and I like how you are clear to try to avoid the fight in the first place as well as being aware of what point you become the aggressor. Go Canada!
I was advised by Chael Sonnen that if they get within arms distance it’s fair game baby.
Love the rules tho. Thank you
CANT LET YOU GET CLOSE
From a guy who’s been in dozens of street fights as a teenager and young adult I disagree about allowing an aggressor to throw the first punch. If you can’t leave and you’re feeling threatened ALWAYS strike first. If you get hit first, 90% of the time you’re in big trouble! Few untrained fighters can withstand a strike and maintain the ability to counterattack and win. The first fight I was in I hesitated and got hit hard in the jaw first. I was able to grab ahold of the guy and thankfully others broke us up. My mother taught me at a young age to always get the first punch in and Deal with the consequences later. I never got hit first again and never lost again. Yes, I spent a few nights in jail but better than in the hospital or worse, the morgue.
I haven't been in a fight in over 30 yrs. I have been able to de-escalate or get myself out of it by making wise choices. I'm a pretty decent sized guy, muscular, and ppl say I'm intimating. I've used all of that to avoid fights as well as thinking smart.
The reason you were able to avoid fights was most likely just your size, not your deescalation talks. That doesn't work if you look small, weak and like a easy target in the eyes of others
@@ashuranero5721 I'm 6ft tall but used to be extremely skinny (I was a h/coke addict) and found myself in some pretty intense situations, sometimes facing several dudes keen to whoop me. Yet I always managed to talk my way out and deescalate things without having to fight.
It's not the just the words but also the voice, inflections, body posture, the way you look at people. Show respect & warmth - while letting them feel you're not a victim and you're crazy enough to hurt them as much as possible if they choose that route. There's almost always a way to avoid violence/getting beat up
It begins with the right attitude.
@@ashuranero5721 deescalating is about not letting your ego get you into the fight. There are some things worth fighting for, such as when you see someone bullying others, or when they are corrupting the youth. But if a guy just wants to feel better than you and is willing to fight you over something so petty. you are being smarter to avoid getting into a fight because his brain is like a child. If you aren't likely to see him again, it's not worth letting him know he is a idiot. If he is someone you will see regularly, then you should deal with it, maybe just not talk to him anymore because some people can't change at all. There's always gonna be people who don't like you if you are the exact opposite of them. I don't get along with steroid users as I am a natural, but they are everywhere. I tolerate them as long as they aren't encouraging the youth to go down the same road.
Smart Man
Excellent advice Sir.
From a legal point of view, good info. Knowing the point when self defense becomes assault (restraint) is the difference b/w ‘hero and zero’.
Yes, lots of zeros as in legal fees (and maybe jail time).
If you're truly concerned about the legality of this, consult an attorney, not a self-defense youtube video.
The last part of this video SURPRISED me!
In the streets we didn’t have a lot of rules. Maybe one, no kicks to the groin. Home before dinner.
That's 2 rules 😂
@@TranceHistorianit’s a Michael Scott quote, so yeah.
Sounds like easy street
That’s not a fight, that’s a game.
@@jand8303 you are being mocked and you dont get it bud
Thanks Kevin, you are one of the best , wish you good health & happiness. Great Blessings
"He posthumously dies"?! 🤣
(Thanks Kevin I needed that!)
Hi I like your videos a lot. Not so much that I need (at least never been in a situation where I would need it, always been able to either talk or walk my way out of trouble) but I simply admire the way you explain things. Plus I must admit I’ve not often seen a person moving so fluent subtle yet very positive like you do. I enjoy watching your videos
Great advice. Most of these haters have nothing financially to lose, can fight, or have never been in a one-on-one.
What a good video! Thanks.
thanks for the video
Excellent advice
This guy saves lives with this content.
Please upload daily in detail 🙏
Never let them throw the first can be your last. Best example was your own rule no1.
Most of the time the one who strikes first wins.
@ Sinista66: It's a difficult situation to navigate, isn't it? Personally, a lot of my "short burst sparring" centers on reading cues, then it's on. He makes the first move ... and I land first. There is a significant difference.
lol you never fought no one
Not for me
Liked this. Need to know more.
Hm.. if you know where the security cams are, a little staging will help you control what happens afterwards as well.
Very good advice. More often than not most fights can be avoided just by simple de-escalation tactics. I especially love how your strategy has to change if you have your family with you. Very smart to give your keys to your partner to get your family to safety as well as take video. Again great advice.
Great film and advice , however at tell the person to stop and back off - if they continue to push into you personal space strike first.
As always great advice 👍 here's also the rule make no statements to the police other than" I was in fear for my life" say nothing else otherwise his attorney will pick you apart in court never make a statement
Thank you for a good vid.
1. if you can run, run
2. if you can't run look for the most advantageous place to start by stalling with your hands up and out while being nonthreatening
3. They will charge you or try to get a cheap shot in, be ready to defend and counter
4. If you countered successfully use that to your advantage leveraging them and trying to keep them pinned
5. After you have them secured call out for others to call the police, DO NOT let them go. Keep them in a controlled pin as long as you can. Ideally until the police get there.
These are pretty realistic rules. I haven't watched the video yet.
Huh, I got them pretty correct. woot!
I really like the different coloured t-shirts you have been wearing. Terrific.
A fight is a fight
Great basic advice!
Remember, prison is intrinsically unsafe. If your self defense lands you in prison, chances are you effed up.
Most witnesses won't see what actually happens, and won't remember it right even if they do. (Unless they're a part time boxing referee or something.) But most of them will still be absolutely certain about this and that when they give witness in court. Chances are that if you win the fight, or if they know the other guy, they'll remember you being in the wrong, no matter what actually happened. This is even more likely if you're an outsider getting into a fight somewhere new, like if you're from outta town, or a tourist somewhere abroad.
Some places have bouncers or security guards or whatnot, who's job it is to sort out altercations. If you can keep yourself safe long enough for this kind of backup to arrive, they will be a lot happier with you than if they find you sitting on an unconscious guy. Again: no matter what actually happened. Make sure that everyone around hear you saying loud and clear that you don't want a problem. If it still gets to a fight, and your strength and wrestling skills are up to it, just holding on to somebody and playing for time might be the safest course of action in the greater scheme of things. Sidebar: I remember a beautiful anecdote from a professional bouncer on what to do when a crew of scary looking HA walk in an sit down in your bar. "What you absolutely should not do is to challenge them or try to put the fear of God into them or anything like that. Instead, you walk up to their table with a friendly smile, introduce yourself by name, wish them a really nice evening. And then you ask them if they could, as a favor to you, if anybody should try to pick a fight or start trouble with them, send someone to get you so that you can sort it out instead of them."
Another time when opening a maximal can of whupass is probably not the correct course is if you know the person you'd be fighting. Like if, to invent a completely hypothetical example that I definitely never saw myself ... when your drunk uncle tries to start a physical fight with your teenage cousin over his "sissy ponytail". Sure you could step in between them and probably knock the tar out of Uncle. But granma will be _super_ upset. Talking them out of it is going to be way safer for everybody, and if that fails: again, wrestling Uncle up to a wall and holding on for a while will probably have a lot less horrible repercussions.
I'm not saying that you will never be in a legitimate life-or-death situation. If you are in one, and you fight as if you were managing some drunk a-hole until the bouncers arrive, you're dead. Granted. But if it's not life-or-death, and you fight as if it was, chances are you'll be in worse trouble than if you straight up lost the fight.
Another great video one thing you could say as he is saying trying to stop the fight before it starts is the goal. let the person know you can only act in self defense you can’t hit first it never is going to work always but if it works a portion of the time it’s worth it.
When he said #2 don’t strike first, I thought to myself hell no. If someone is the aggressor soon as they enter your personal space always Strike first!
Thank you from Miami, FL. There's some nuts in this city, so this information is valuable. Be well.
1st rule of self defense escape when possible.
Walk backwards and watch the other person as you walk away.
Retreat, but try not to walk backwards. Walking backwards over unfamiliar and/or uneven surfaces is a good way to end up on the ground with an aggressor on top of you. Move at an angle so you can easily glance in the direction you are moving to minimize tripping hazards.
Very Good advices. Greetings from Argentina.
1. Run 2. If you know you have to fight, hit first. 3. Make the fist or attack end the fight.
Great video. There are some instructors who try to make the case for striking first, which is a no-go in Canada. If you are in the woods being kidnapped, then go for it, the assault has already started, but in the cities stick to Rule #2 if Rule #1 fails or you need to enlist Rule #3. Try not to put the head on the neck, it has been subject to several police related deaths, best to avoid it or put it on the head if you have to with less risk to crushing the windpipe. First aid is life over limb.
That was a great video. You checked a lot of boxes.
I will just pull a Jackie Chan quote, "I don't want no trouble."
I would run or walk away from fights. Nowadays, people have weapons on them, and it's not worth it.
Excellent video, tho as a fellow Canadian must say that you forgot the 'then hit him with a jar of maple syrup' part.
Man u re a lawyer. And it is good.
Guy is going to wake up and 'WTF!??? Why am I not in my bed?'
And what's my hand doing in my pants?!
That reminds me... need to get a bodycam.
A friend of mine in the UK was a Karate practitioner. He was forced to defend himself against an attacker, but also unfortunately the only onlooker saw his first punch rather than the attackers first punch. He had to fight the legals all the way. So whilst it might be best to not throw the first punch, even that is not always to your advantage legally. Beware. But a nice vid.
Have you ever been in a bar fight? I can't see making arm pillows for people after they attack me.
First rule, dont be in the way of a punch!
Second rule, see first rule....
It's almost Mother's Day ❤🎉 This is the best Video 💋😏
Rule# 1: we do not talk about getting into fist fights.
So Canadian 🤣👏🙏
Fights don’t normally happen like this often swift …good legal info . In UK we can hit first if we feel life is in danger yes it will still have legal complication
Great advice. Avoid fighting. Too many legal issue especially when you damage your attacker. Get it on film is the most important. Without video the attacker can claim you started it and you were the aggressive one.
Someone on YT came up with the same idea I was thinking. Kevin talked about having your arms up in a boxing position to protect against an attacker launching the first punch, often referred to in the U.S. as a, sucker punch, blindside, cold cock, dirty hit, falsecrack (Hawaii). However, to witnesses and to video cameras and CCTV, it might look like you are engaging in a duel, that is, a one-on-one brawl, in which both of you will be blamed and arrested.
Instead, have your arms up but open your hands, palms facing out, fingers stretched apart. This gesture clearly demonstrates to witnesses, phone cameras, and CCTV that you are the one on defense trying his best to avoid a confrontation by appearing conciliatory, "Hey dude, I don't want any trouble." If the troublemaker launches a sucker punch, at least your arms are up to block his fist from hitting you in the face or head. Now you can strike back and follow the rest of Kevin's advice; put him down, restrain him, look around, or take care of him if he's unconscious. The whole idea is to go home safe, sound, alive, avoid jail and avoid lawyers.
Make sure in some states in the US you know the separation of assault and battery. If they are separate you have to wait for assault to assault(grabbing/grappling) and wait for battery (striking) to hit them back. If you accidentally get too fired up when the assailant throws a punch and guard to clinch and throw him down to stay safe you might get into trouble for assault because you grabbed them first. I know. It's a really annoying thing in law. One that doesn't make sense to me.
It is impossible to swallow your own tongue!
👍
First rule: be prepared, in position, don't swing first, try to talk the person out of the fight."FIRST MOVE FOR DEFENSE STEP BACK A COUPLE FEET," NOW THE ASSALIANT is wide open. Best advice haul ass.
If you're to concerned about the " Law " then you'll probably get your ass kicked . Take no prisoners
There’s only three rules, strike first, strike fast, strike last. Biker Kwon do. 😎⚔️
Ok, good tips. But I’m only 5’3”, 69 yrs old, and an easy going guy. But even if a younger, bigger guy mouths off to me, I won’t back down. In most all of the fist fights I’ve seen, whoever threw the first punch, usually wins, especially if he’s bigger.
Are you still suggesting I let him throw the first punch???
So….according to this video, I’m with my wife, toddlers, and elderly mother, clearly and without a doubt not looking for trouble, we are accosted by someone who is clearly threatening us, and now I’ve got to go through my checklist which includes not only enticing them to attack me but also me providing medical care to them if I prevail?
If I prevail against an assailant who:
1. Is not using a checklist.
2. Who isn’t following the rules.
3. Who may be under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
4. Who may have a weapon.
5. Who may have buddies waiting to jump in or hurt my family.
Did I get all that right?
My toddlers are in mortal danger but I need to primarily focus on what a DA is going to think about some herky jerky cell phone video?
Go ahead. Maybe your mother’s obituary will mention your gallantry and legal acumen as you tried to defend her life. At least no charges were filed against you, amirite bro?
I hate “reaction” videos, in general they are fake and stupid.
But I’d love to watch a reaction video of Lee Morrison watching this video. If he could even get through it without dying of laughter.
Articulating use of force has to be done as an objective measure so familiarity with local laws and interpretations of totality of circumstance is central. Warning about spontaneous utterances and such are essential to avoid so practice objective measure of both the threat you perceived and the reason you selected the response you selected.
Rule #1: Don't get into fights. Be careful who you talk to, what you do in the evenings and be careful how much you drink.
Stay safe out there.
Good advice, but you are just missing master Ken's groin stomp. 👍
2 rules only. First rule we dont talk about fight club second rule we dont talk about fight club
It may just be that I'm no where near the caliber of fighter as you but my rule 5 is to leave if there are others around, don't give give their friends a chance to think about it or go retrieve weapons from their cars.
You can throw the first punch if you believe your life is in danger or the attacker indicates through body language that he is going to threaten you. And then you need to use proportional force when subduing. Hopefully you get a reasonable cop when explaining the situation.
Rule nr1 : don't fight!
1st rule: Dont bring a knife to a gun fight!
Bro are you like 6ft 8? Dang you’re tall. Good vid thanks.
It’s Mexican judo !!! Ju don’t know I got a gun , ju don’t know I got a knife , ju don’t know nothing about me !! 🤣
How does mutual combat work?
Respect, but I don't agree.
Rule number one, there are no rules.
😂… the guy who says 5 rules of anything just wants to sell you something or os trying to convince you he’s the real deal …
xaxahajhahhahahhaahahhahhahahahaahaahha
Don't you love how these street fighting guru's talk about all their rules and procedures for street fighting like it's a daily occurrence
It happens for some of us more than others.. Stay Grateful.
A fight here in Texas? 😂
How many fist fights have you had???
Great video, very informative!! 🫸🏻🤛
In America it depends on your race , if you the wrong race might as well throw first consequences will be the same.
U don't fight in front of your little girl. This vid should be on a section for law abiders.
If you have ever been hit with a straight right punch to the face, it knocks you off your feet. It is difficult to block a jab or right cross; you cover up. If you let a perp strike first, if they know anything, you have lost. Think again.
Rule 6…..move to low population, low crime states if you have a wife and kids. Vermont, New Hampshire ( Maine is cold cold….but also has a low crime rate.). Secure employment first. They have rare murders whereas the self defense states ….Texas and Florida…now have increased murders from ordinary folks in road rage pistol fights.
Rule no.1 - Take off all clothes
Rule no. 2 - Scream, Yell, Swear, Laugh, Cry and Blaspheme.
Canada? Ha! You can't even have a gun up there.......Wayyyyy to afraid of the government for sure.
You should pick a bigger guy : )
rule # 2..try to let them throw the first punch. That is so wrong. You look at any of the instructors who have worked the doors and or have a great knowledge of street fights they all say the only real self defense is to learn to read the signs you are about to be attacked and to hit first and hit hard, You have to be pre-emptive. Check out what guys like Geoff Thompson, Lee Morrison, Nick Drossos, Tony Somers, Richard Gannon, ( I could name many many more ) have to say about hitting first
1 rule I will win
Better be judged by 12 than be carried by 6 🤷🏻♂️
The last one works great for drunk people so they don't choke on their own 🤮
LOL... this video should be renamed "CALL YOU ATTORNEY and BACK OFF"
Rule 1- Don't get into a situation that you can't talk your way out of, Rule 2- Avoid getting punched first, Rule 3- Attack first if stuck in a bad position and make the first punch count, Rule-4 After slugging the other guy be the first to end the fight and make friends Rule 5- Carry your Attorney's card like your debit or credit cards... everywhere.
In SD there are no rules. You live in a strange place that people have no weapons.
Question: Have you ever been in a real fight ? Do you know how fast violence happens?
there's only 1 rule 2 fighting and that is there isn't any rules
Gracie or Brazilian jujitsu is the worlds most efficient and effective martial art. There’s video all over TH-cam of people effectively defending themselves using jujitsu or some sort of grappling. It’s also incredible that it is the worlds most humane martial art. Also Gracie Jiu Jitsu is an incredible martial art in which both people benefit at the same time. And a lot of other martial arts one person gets demonstrated on or takes the technique and the other person does the technique. It’s fun.
Krav Maga or all these other street lethal systems it sucks for the person receiving the technique. also you need a lot of speed power athleticism to get these other martial arts techniques off. Jujitsu you really don’t.
It seems like in Canada that people are getting off for assault all the time with the absolute minimal circumstances.
