This is some great info. I'm not building a model car, but I have a '72 Mercury Montego GT that I'd like to build a 70s NASCAR tribute out of and take it road racing in whatever SCCA or NASA class I can get it into. It doesn't have to be exact, but I at least want to be reasonably accurate to an actual Banjo chassis when I'm done.

Great vid!!!! I need to do my ASA chassis with the rear clip so I can use them for the Dirt Latemodels. Did start with the Brass and made it all in one pc. With cuts on different angles to make it but was a very crazy but worked out. Will have to send you pics.

Thanks Jimmy! I've had my scale rulers sense the 80s. You can find 1/24, 1/25, (many other scales too) on line and in many hobby shops. The brand rulers I have are "IVARULE". Haven't seen them in a while but there are other brands just as good. Thanks again for watching!
Cutting them flush & keeping both parts the same length is one thing but putting an angle on them & keeping them the same is a whole different animal,lol. Especially when putting a different degree angle on the opposite end. But yours look great !@@MarkBatsonHobbydude007

Great tutorial cutting for the frame. couple questions. Squaring up the frame, what are you using for a jig? Cutting the 45s. I noticed that you cut in from the corner, why and how do you measure for that?
Thanks brother!! When I measure out each rail exactly the same for each side, everything squares up perfectly! Even so, I still measure and compare to the kit chassis.

Hey Bob-O!! The "front steer" have the steering box mounted to the chassis just forward if the front spindles while the "rear steer" were just behind the spindles. Depending on the driver (and sometimes the track) both were popular from the mid 70s on. I'm a Pro Stock nut myself and am a child of the Winston era stock car boys. Many thanks for watching bro!!

Did they bisect the angles on the full size frame cuts? In other words, where there is a 45 degree angle did they cut the 2 pieces at 22 1/2 degrees where they join?
Outstanding question Mike! Good eye! The real cars are indeed cut at 22.5 degrees. For this scale it is easier to cut 45s, smooth it out and scribe the correct angle back in. (This will be covered in part 2) Many thanks for watching and a great question!

I ran Howe Chassis' in my cars (Camaro's & Nova's) in the 80's (left racing in 89)

@@Bob0sModelFabWorx The basic Laughlin and Banjo Matthews Chassis' were fairly close in many ways. Laughlin being best known for the front steer.
