This is the one right here!!! Terrace is a huge inspiration to me and I love watching his process of creating. His “Turning Poison into Medicine” series is a masterclass and a must-watch for aspiring producers!!!
This the first TH-cam video I watched on New Years Day. God bless everyone thank you Don Cannon for this video and thank Terrace Martin for not just your contribution to music but also to the world.
One thing i like about BackTrak is they are not only focussing on the BIGGEST SONGS/HITS, but songs that are doing it good ! Terrace deserves more credit, nice to see him saying hi-teks name, dre, pharrell etc
I didn't even finish the episode yet , but shoutout to Terrance for his details when it comes to story telling! He gives so much detail when it comes to the GEAR making everything real visual
This here ... is a power piece. Terrace is one of those ones that keeps me highly motivated in my pursuit of just sheer freedom with my craft! Would have been nice to have made a living, but it's my life therapy, ultimate stress relief and $$$ can't replace that. Best New Year's Eve reset for 2025 I've encountered! Thx bro ...
This piece of content is soooo good, this was the 1st time I actually thought “TH-cam should allow me (us) to share this (any) video on our channels. This should be watched by every serious musician alive imo 😤
Ive never been a fan of jazz, (few pockets few songs) but i like how its HOME to real niggas who live n breathe music. I never heard that drones song, but i love hearing the isolation and the story of it. The concept is fire. And it was clearly executed well!!! Not my vibe. And im grown enough to appreciate craft even if it doesn't take me no where... I know i get there, im just loving how they got there and the vibes they had on the way!!! Respect! T.m. is amazing, and a real one. Ive only seen a few interviews and its always fire! Dude running the interview had a great approach, and could extract some perspectives and angle out his subject as only someone whos had a major disagreement with and learned respect WITH the person for n from EACHOTHER... Im bout to watch another vid... Thanks to everyone who has a part in this. Even that person who may have gotten the phone bill wirked out at the store one time so the emails n txt was str8... Its all part of the art... Peace
Terrace is one of the great young minds in this generation 💯. The last of the Mohicans that really got to touch that analog world and bring in the digital. His Jazz background is just icing on the cake. Or you can say vice versa. I'm just glad I learned about him in 2024. This channel too😉💪🏽
Time stamp 18:05 he says "this a fact" about the 808 😂. The first time I heard the 808 it was 1991-92ish my uncle had 2 15" in a ford bronco and played MC Breed "Ant No Future In Yo Frontin" and made a quarter flip on the dash from the bass. Im from Detroit but I remember 2Short and Mc Breed with 808 type bass.
So I paused the video before I left my comment just to not loose what I wanted to say and was shocked that he had the same experience cus that was the day for me I feel in love with this hiphop thing I might be getting my years mixed up but I had that exact same feeling here in Detroit.
@streetsillustratedinc yo real shit, my homie/client has a feature of MC Breed never released we been talking about me producing it. Hand to god I was on the freeway years back in my 1987 all gray cutless with 15" 100Spokes with the bullets and MC Breed came creeping up on the side of me in a chevy van with 22" gold 100spokes with bullets and his posters in thw windows with a bad bitch drving him lol no joke.
Easy E wasn’t out in 1986…. But somewhere near that time -RUN DMC - TLA ROCK - and KRSONE had something in their sound. Let’s not be biased Mr. Martin Much respect to my good brother slash genius producer. But Where are the hip hop scholars? Talk back to me. Who knows the truth?
lol see yall complained about that 2 minute timbo video now they done went into overkill on us lmao 😂 ❤ this series reminds me of the good old TH-cam days before the algorithm shift for some reason.

Def Jam was heavy on the 808 in the mid 80s,i thought we knew this already?
Dopeness
Run DMC Together Forever may be the first time the 808 was heard in Hip-Hop 1984
Easy E wasn’t out in 1986….
But somewhere near that time -RUN DMC - TLA ROCK - and KRSONE had something in their sound.
Let’s not be biased Mr. Martin
Much respect to my good brother slash genius producer.
But Where are the hip hop scholars?

This was suggested to me on Instagram & here I am, thanks a lot for this!🤙
If you'd only listened to Hip Hop then you would think the 808 showed up in the mid 80s to 90s.
Shout out to Terrace and I just bought a JV-1080 yesterday 😂 Crazy 🔥
😂🔥🔥
To this day the cymbal is still too loud ! 😂😂😂
And that’s how Brian got the name “Big Bass” I assume..
