Can you share how much light from the cube should we use as a fix light source with the flash on? Hello. I usually set the light as bright as I can get it based on the closeness and shooting conditions. It is best used as a fill flash when within 4-6 feet (1.5-2m) of your subject when shooting portraiture. The strap is handmade. I made it. You can make one too. It's easy. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers.

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  ปีที่แล้ว

      It lasts long enough. This can completely depend on how much you print and how many photos you've taken. On a full charge I've taken over 100 photos and printed about 30 film before the charge ran out. This was a whole day of shooting and printing at the time.

    Thanks for the video, I’ve learned a few things.
    Question: When I take a photo and proceed to do some adjustments, etc… how do I get the screen back to “live view”, ready to take a picture again? Somehow I just stay stuck in adjustment/info loops of screens. I have to turn my camera off and on to get back to get back the love view screen to see what I’m going to take a photo of.

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm glad you found the video helpful. Watch all of my videos on the. EVO for even more tips and operating instructions. To get back to the shooting screen you must full press the shutter button. This is completely backwards from how it is supposed to be done. Fujifilm should have included a back button or made the shutter button act like it usually would... A half press to get back to the shooting screen. That's how they do it on all of their X-series cameras. Cheers!

    Hi Robert! Quick question, do you note a " pixelated" print from the Evo in comparison with a print from an Instax mini 90 for example? Or in that regards you can't tell then apart? Thank you 🙏

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not usually. If you digitally zoom or crop in on an image you can see a pixelated effect. You can tell an aesthetic difference between the analog mini 90 (and other analog cameras) as compared to the digital print from the Mini Evo. Analog prints have an authentic analog look. However, you would have to know what you're looking for in order to tell a difference in most cases. If you were using a manual instant camera with a wide aperture, like the Mint TL70 /RF70, you would notice the analog advantage immediately, but between the mini 90 and the mini Evo, I think the difference is minimal, and I recommend the Evo over the 90 because it takes a good picture. Cheers.

    Hey Robert! Great video! I have a question. Dont you think the LiPlay takes/prints photos more like instant/polaroid camera? The pictures printed from the Evo look more like a standard good quality digital camera. LiPlay gives that vintage or traditional instant/polaroid camera look to photos. The older cameras in the instax mini series e.g. the mini 90 and the mini 40 also give the same look as the LiPlay to photos. It would be great to have your advice. I cant really decide between the Evo and the LiPlay. Which one should i buy

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Hi, Chris. Nice question. No, I don't think that the LiPlay looks more like analog Instax cameras than the Evo does. This is because they both share the same lens, sensor, and operating system. The OS seems to be reskinned to further differentiate the two cameras. If you had to choose between the LiPlay and the Evo, the Evo would be the better choice. Software, looks, and OS differences aside; the Evo has an updated printer that prints at twice the resolution compared to the LiPlay. That's only for images printed from the camera. Images printed from a phone share the same lower resolution.
      What you have noticed about the image quality is a very astoot observation. The difference between an analog exposure on film combined with the chemical development process of the film verses an exposure on a digital sensor, go version of that digital capture into a process that further sends a signal to an LED printer to reconstitute an analog print on chemical film is the comparison.
      Both processes look different because they are different. This mainly has to do with the sensor and lens used on the EVO. Had FujiFilm used a better sense and upgraded lens, the printed result wouldn't looks so digital. It's an interesting conversation to have, and nice to know that some people pay enough attention to tell the difference. Does it really maw a difference? I don't think so.
      I like analog instant cameras because of the look they give. That is partly because of the lens and partly because of the film. But I can surpass anything that any analog instant camera can produce with my Panasonic S5 or Sony A7, or just about any other camera. Including your cellphone, when paired with a nice lens and wide apertures (or portrait mode in the case of a cell phone). If that image is printed on Instax film using an instax printer, the image will have that vintage look.
      The "vintage" look most people are talking about is subject separation from the foreground and background. This generally causes blur, and most people find that very attractive. The thing you notice about the analog Instax cameras is that the lenses generally have a tiny bit of subject separation. This is partly because they have wider apertures, and partly because of the focal length of the lens (as compared to the Evo or LiPlay).
      This is also why I like Mint Cameras like the RF70 orTL70 so much. I get a fully manual instant camera with a very wide apertures. This means I can take portraits on instant film with a lot of background blur. That's not something the Evo, LiPlay, or SQ10/20 can do. That's what also makes them look more digital. Well, at least one of the things. Some people say they can see the dots the printer makes when printing an image... That's a whole different conversation. For all practical purposes, I don't believe you can see any "dots" from printing. The image isn't printed in the first place. It is exposed with light by the LED printer. Many people forget that LED means light emitting diode. The printer prints using light by exposing the film by the printer instead of through the lens. It's really smart. But it's a whole thing of its own. I hope this helps. Get the Evo and be happy. You will have a great camera. I love mine. It's quickly becoming one of my top instant cameras. Cheers.

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      NO, not exactly. If you want to get into photography with a proper camera (anything other than a phone), Then I would suggest a Fujifilm XF10, XA5 or XE4. Heck, If you want to buy used, an XT2 is hard to beat. Get the 2.8-4 18-55 and you will be goof to go. Any modern mirrorless camera, preferrably used, will do a great job helping you learn about and explore photography. I would stay away from DSLR's only because mirrorless cameras allow you to see your exact outcome before you take the image. DSLR's don't do that. But... if you want a DSLR my favorite is the Nikon 750D. It's oricey even used, but I love it. Pick up a Canon 5Dm2 and a 50f1.8 and you will be all set to shoot DSLR.
      The Mini EVO is a horrible digital camera, it's slow to shoot with- you wont photograph fast moving pets playing or kids/ppl running around. THere is a serious lag from shutter press to actual capture. It's better suited for slower photography. It's a good Instant camera, but you won't want to use those digital pictures, they are not much good for anything more that making a small Instax print.
      If you like the idea of printing photos, just grab an Instax Link printer and one of the Fujifilm cameras mentioned above. You will love it. Cheers!

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes. You will love using the camera. It's fun. The camera can operate a little slower than you would expect sometimes. So if you are trying to take pictures of fast moving things, like kids playing or animals, then you will notice the slowness more. Other than that, I like mine a lot.

    I keep wondering how the photo quality compares polaroid sx70?

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's like comparing apples to elephants. It's a digital camera verses an analog camera. It's a modern camera verses a vintage camera. It's a media size comparison of 3" film verses 1/5" sensor. It's a Instax film verses new Polaroid film. None of it compares. But...
      If you recognize that, then most people would prefer the Evo. Good consistent images. Imaging professionals would prefer the SX70. If I had two correctly exposed images side by side, I would would prefer the SX70.
      The two camera couldn't be any more different and still be cameras. If you had both you wouldn't feel like their capabilities or results would overlap. Cheers.

    Hi. The print line from the roller or whatever is causing it, it's visible on every review I've seen of this camera and the issue is also present on the Instax Link WIDE printer I have. It's a horrible issue and is more noticeable on lighter colours such as clouds or blue skies. We're paying a lot of money for these gadgets and the the analog cameras don't have this issue so I don't understand it.

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are 100% correct. I wish it was on other way, and I'm not happy hearing about the wide printer. I was thinking about getting one of those. We shouldn't have to deal with this kind of issue from Fujifilm, but it is what it is. I think that Fujifilm needs to put in a little more effort on their Instax line of cameras and products. There should be a more premium build that would attract an upmarket client. That's what they are trying to do, but they aren't exactly hitting their stride just yet. Instax makes them money. It has always been an appeal to youth and young people.. their entire marketing focuses on 20's and teens. They need to take the medium seriously. I own several Mint Cameras and paid top dollar for them. They are great, and I would have paid $600 bucks for a premium built EVO. One with the care and attention that would avoid the issues such as print roller lines, came with a metallic build, used a better multi element glass lens, and with a viewfinder. Cheers.

    • @waynekinder
      @waynekinder ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RobertHamm I've worked out the issue. It's on all their printers (except the old SP-1 as that works differently) and hybrids. When the film is being ejected and scanned at the same time (SP-1 scans THEN ejects) the film hits the rollers and that's where the first faint line will appear due to the resistance of the film starting to be pulled through the rollers. When the thick border passes the rollers it picks up speed again and that's where the second line comes from. I've seen so many reviews and nobody mentions the lines even though they're apparent in the videos.

    Has anyone else had the roller lines issue?

      It's mostly disappeared. If it's there, I don't notice it anymore. Maybe it just needed a break in period.

      The video isn't procedural. The topic order doesn't matter. Look around and use the time stamps.
