You should look up speeches by Manly P Hall dude, it's not about the destination, it's about the journey.
“It was apparent that materialism was in complete control of the economic structure, the final objective of which was for the individual to become part of a system providing an economic security at the expense of the human soul, mind, and body.”

This is prospecting Porno - I started panning when I was 15 assisted by my grandad who was worried that I would get gold fever. His grandfather was William Bell who made his fortune many times over got cheated out of his mines by his mates on the stock exchange - had another family in WA when he went over there. He maintained that his mother was the first legitimate child - but family history searches showed he married her mother shortly after the birth. Grandad never revealed to us that William Bell was in the eureka stockade and was a friend of Peter Lalor.
I am now 72 years old and arthritic and as far as I know hibanking is illegal in nsw. Your videos are great and I love them - makes me realise what could have been possible when I was younger.

How much dirt moved? When I was at Uni I had a Summer job with a small Building Supply company, one of my jobs was to load loose sand onto a trailer with a shovel, each trailer took 1 tonne. I loaded 6 trailers in one day. It was a long time ago and I really doubt I could do it now.

Well all I can say it's nice to see sun in a video. It's been very wet here in souther bc and more rain to come. But I guess the positive from all the floods landslides and river diversions. Good gold never before touched is now deposited in creeks streams rivers and in Merritt BC on the main roads in town. Sad for all the losses but love to see how mother nature can move the land and how powerful water truly is.

I wonder how Dan Hurd's "Dream Claim" or Pickerton made out. Will be interesting. No matter what you are right about Mother Nature. Just a little flex from her made the land and the people move. She was like "I swore I put a lake there."
We forget who really runs the show. It ain't us!

Chris, this is the most dirt I've ever moved in a day and I did it for about 30 days in a 3-4 month period because I was still seeing good gold. I classified Twenty 5 gallon buckets and carried them 100 yards to feed them thru a stream sluice and carried them by hand because a wheel barrow was not allowed. Forty 5 gallon buckets is approximately half a yard of pay dirt, but the overburden I thru away from my classifier was easily 3 times that amount. It was hard work but still a lot of fun. I was about 42 years old then.

    • @mattjohnson5104

I roughly hauled, load and unloaded, 7 full truck beds full of gravel and dirt coming to 10,500 pounds or 4762.716 kg.
I just wish that it all contained gold, but I didn't pan it, sadly. But the driveway never looked better!
My efforts were work, not a hobby, and we don't have many rivers here that contain much gold.

Sure, but its spring here. In summer the average is 40c with peaks around 48.
And to top it off there is no ozone above us, so the UV index is consistently high. Meaning you'll burn in under 2 minutes.

I was a mail carrier for over 22 years and had to be 'out' in the weather all the time. Even when it is 47-48c (118f). I had to deal (retired now) with the high humidity heat here in a suburb of the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and would'a traded places with you in a heart-beat! Go git'um! Git that gold!

I purchased a home with a basement in the Pacific Northwest in 1980. I finished the basement with bedrooms. The PNW had an extreme rain season that brought the water table to the bottom of my cement floor. I decided that I need a curtain drain around my home. In May I started digging with pick and shovel around my home down to the footing of the wall, six to eight feet (1.8 to 2.4 meters), cleaned and sealed the wall, laid perforated pipe, and gravel then refilled the hole. I ran all the dirt through a screen to remove the gravel and rock for the next side of the foundation. This totaled 160 feet (43 meters). I ran the drainpipe downhill until it drained to the surfaces, about 70 feet (21 meters) I worked every evening and every weekend from May to September moving dirt. AND I found no GOLD!! I did lower the water table even in the worst rain by several feet. The curtain drain is working very well even thirty-five years later. During very heavy rains the water exits the 4-inch drainpipe pipe with a 4-inch flow and the basement stays dry!

As we just had a snow storm here in the Northeast United States (34 degree Fahrenheit - about 1 C), I told my husband you were prospecting in 34 degree heat and he put it into Fahrenheit instead of Centigrade!

When you have an especially heavy wheel barrel, and you need momentum or need to start pushing, place the big muscle (thigh) against the wheel barrel. Is that understandable?

I hand loaded around 5 cube meters in about 4 hours from a pile onto a 2tonne tipper. I had to have it moved and my mini loader was in the workshop i just kept loading using a Plumbers spit shovel. It was mostly clay

Good stuff Chris. Fern’s coming along. The most I’ve ever done was 6.5 cubic yards in a day, which is about 5 cubic meters. I’m in BC and the weather was cool and wet (10 C). At 34 C like you’re in, I don’t think I’d be up for even half of that.

You guys need one of those Ergo shovels with the shorter handle and square tip. I bet it wouldn’t spill as much 👍
