Great piece of work and without a single electric tool which shows respect to those old pieces of wood, which most probably havent seen and will never experience an electric tool.❤
I was so happy seeing a new video from you but had to save it for later-and then forgot all about it! Until now :^) Great little show and project. Thank you very much :^)
This is a wonderful video showing the steps in making a very simple yet elegant box using recycled wood. This type of video is even better because it is not filled with self-aggrandizing philosophical baloney or obnoxious music. Thank you for sharing your work.
I recently discovered your videos and have watched all of them from the beginning. Now that I am retired and have time to work on projects I particularly enjoy watching you work on your projects. I have learned a great deal from you. You remind me of my dad. He had a workshop in the basement and was a master cabinet maker before he went into business. There’s something particularly satisfying about seeing the care and thought that you give to each project. Your finished work is absolutely beautiful. I do hope that you continue to make videos in the future. Thanks for sharing all that you have in the past. Best wishes to you and your family.
Thanks for your note and kind comments. I enjoy sharing my projects with other woodworkers. I produce videos at a snail’s pace, but it’s fun hearing from fellow woodworkers when I do. Best regards and please visit us again!
Great to see your work again Ken. And boxes are always a lovely project and from such interesting wood. I think I asked you before whether you have a shooting board for squaring up those board ends. No sign of one here. Makes such an easy job of it and even more importantly a good excuse for buying more planes. Thanks again for showing us all your working.
I’m crazy about boxes….I think it shows. So far, I’ve managed without a shooting board but they really are useful in the workshop. One of these days. Thank you for the visit.
Hello from the UK again. What a lovely little project. I really enjoy all you're vlogs and I'm going to have a go at making something like this one. Thanks again for you're vlogs and inspiration 👍
Would I be right in thinking that I recognise that wood? Haha. Looks incredible Ken, your joinery always looks so pristine, love the use of nails too, I often think they're a bit underused these days
Oh yes Clint, you’ve worked with chestnut too. Nice stuff, I’m always on the lookout for more. Nails have their place. I especially like the large variety made by the Tremont Nail Company. We might visit there some day. Thanks.
Hey Ken, Joanneen. guten tag aus Deutschland I hope I spelled Joaneen correctly, maybe you can improve it. I don't like getting names wrong, sorry. a nice box to practice my skills. thank you for sharing it with us. Patty will definitely be happy about it. Thanks from Germany, see you next time🔨📐👋🏻
Hello Willem, and guten tag from the US. Yes, Joaneen is the correct spelling. This project is a very good way to develop your hand tool woodworking skills. Patti likes the box!
Nice little box. Have you considered making a moxon vise to dovetails higher up when sawing. Obviously, you have a system that works. One is on my to do list. I have the hardware. Just need to find the time.
A Moxon would be nice to have. I create a makeshift one by F- clamping two handscrew clamps to my bench. For supporting boards higher up for sawing, I sandwich a thicker board as a backer to reduce vibration. Works well and only takes me a minute to set up.
Thank you for the (sort of new) video! Please keep making videos Ken. I look forward to seeing more wonderful examples of hand tool wood working! I always get inspired when I watch you work, so now I have to go down to my little workshop and make a something! :) Sidebar: Have you ever made a chair?
I wish I had some chestnut. I remember the plant ID lab we took to our mountians in NC many years ago in my forestry class. There were dead chestnut trees lying all about that most of the wood was naturally presearved after many years. Blame the chestnut blight. Castania dentata, not bad after 45 years huh.
Excellent video. I agree with @davidclark9086's comments. I would have liked to see you working the box lid though. And maybe just a bit more commentary. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
I agree, I wasn't as detailed in my commentary on this box. The lid spacer was glued and tacked on with small cut nails. Please feel free to ask me any details about the box. Thanks for the note!
What a sweet gift, Patti is lucky to know someone like you!
I'm lucky to have the friends that I have found.
Great piece of work and without a single electric tool which shows respect to those old pieces of wood, which most probably havent seen and will never experience an electric tool.❤
Thank you. I'm quite sure that chestnut never met an electron! Lol.
Ken everyone of your videos is inspirational. Thank you so much.
Glad you like the videos. Best regards.

It was fun doing a quick little project for a friend. Thanks.

Nice box! That wood is beautiful.
Yes indeed. The color, the grain, and the “imperfections” of chestnut are amazing. I’m searching for more and hope to use it on other projects.

Very nice. And a lesson on how to do it!
Thanks. This was a simple and fun project.
Lovely work...from Glasgow Scotland
Thank you. Hoping to visit Glasgow one of these days.

Thanks Tom, I enjoy sharing my projects on TH-cam. A primitive stick chair is on my To Do list, I might make a three legged stool first. Best regards.
Beautiful! What did you use for glue in the dovetails? What did you use for finish?
Thanks. I used Titebond liquid hide glue. The finish is linseed oil by Tried and True. They call it "Danish Oil".
I enjoyed the project. It might look nice with a knob on top. :)
Good idea. Lots of options for this box.
Nice job hard to beat the look of old wood! Take Care
Yes indeed. I like working with reclaimed lumber. Lots of character.

Work is being done to bring the American chestnut species back. Let's hope so.
@@treebangham I've seen that. Thank you and you bet.

Beautiful...what was the finish? Linseed oil?
Yes. Pure 100% linseed oil from Tried and True. They call it "Danish Oil".
Loved it!
Thank you. This was a simple and fun project. Will be doing more.
Very cute box build.
Turned out nice...I'll be making more. Thanks.
I think your videos are fantastic, can't wait for the next one. Stay safe and have fun.@@treebangham
We enjoy making these videos. Glad you like them. All the best.
Kia Ora & Good Morning from Auckland, New Zealand ...great video bro.
