Subnautica 2 would be a continuation of Subnautica, Below Zero is essentially a "Spin off" of the main story. So there could also be a Below Zero 2 as well. All just my opinion haha
Anthomnia did an interview with a subnautica dev and answered most of these questions. I'd recommend going to watch it. He confirms a lot of the questions asked here
I think the most i want in subnautica 2 is a new customization style like giving you a option between 10 different designs for your vehicle while keeping the same paint system
Its not a live service, it means that itll have new content updates over the months and whatnot and it will have an open in development betas and what not like Subnsutica 1 and BZ Edit: also all those images are incgame, not renders, pretty cool right?
Life service model is great for dynamic events, battle passes, microtransactions, seasonal content, like Diablo 3/4, Last Epoch, etc.. to make the experience last longer but not required for replayability. There is tons of games that are offline single player releasing additional content, DLCs, free or paid, that add replayability that way. A lot of games design their core game loop so the game becomes replayable and don't require a life service model either. Rimworld, 7 Days To Die, Ark, even Subnautica 1 had me play for 200 hours and that's on the low end compared to other players. I just hope they don't design the game around the service model so it feels like an incompaitble pairing, but rather make a great game first with the service model tagged on where it makes sense.
I think Obraxis Prime could work if we play a character who escapes the massacre and has to survive while the others kill each other off. If we only have survival equipment and no weapons, it fits with the morals of Subnautica. Thanks for your thoughts on it.
I don't think they'll do that as subnautica was done without weapons because of a real life event which obraxis prime was meant to be the equivalent of (I think).
If Subnautica 2 happens on a different planet maybe obraxis prime happened on a "sister" planet? Like a meteor crashed into a sea planet they split and now we have 2
@DavidWBIII It depends what is your game style, if you rush, min max then you can finish Astroneer in under 50 hours, but i have 250 hours and still could play another 150 before it gets boring.
I want more big open deep spaces I felt the cyclops was criminally under utilizyed for how how long it took to make and have access too. Make batteries better and have more spaces that require almost constant radar mapping usage.
8:01 I speculate the sub would connect to a larger vehicle. Think putting your seamoth into the cyclops. If you had one big submarine that had several of these (probably four), or you could decide to build more than one to connect to the sub, it would play into the co-op experience.
I would love to see planets mentioned, and not mentioned, in the various pda entries of subnautica and below zero, as it could add extra storylines that could potentially converge to a penultimate game where we explore the precurser's home planet and discover the truth of what happened to them.
That's what I took from the "receipt" also - we could likely be headed to Obraxis Prime. We already know it's not 4546B, so that makes sense. ... The receipt gave a year; I think it mentioned 2200 something. We don't know when the massacre took place, though, so it's hard to speculate. I don't want a "battle" game, so I hope it's not the massacre, although it'd be fun to learn more about what did happen. Although it seems less likely, I'd like to know the fate of the rest of the Precursors. As long as it's underwater, which it at least mostly will be, I'll be happy, though. I've been on my Switch scouring for time capsules lately. I haven't found any from the new game yet although I've found a few that I've never found prior, which was cool.
Wanted to mention that these are all screenshots taken from in game, obraxis confirms this is Anthomnia's interview with him, he also shares that none of it is staged.
Calling it live service was probably a mistake when what they describe is more like nothing more complex than a developer supporting their game after launch with content updates rather than just bug fixes. Multiplayer isn't my thing and live service would suggest that it would lock the game into online and servers which is a guillotine being raised over the longevity of a single player title. If they decide to balance around multiplayer then the single player game will suffer. The exploration and feeling of dread in the dark depths will evaporate in a multiplayer setting faster than it did in below zero by having the player run about on the ground. Seasons could work as a planetary mechanic if they did it based on migration patterns, weather changes, etc much in the same way they have creatures of the deep responding to sources of light, so for example an eyeye spawning season could well have leviathans turn up to hunt. I just hope that they actually come up with a better story this time and don't do another rehash of the crashed survivor, BZ's original start was far better while the release one is just the escape pod trope.

Although honestly if it any Subnatica as long as the story is good and stays with the way Subnatica was then I would probably love it regardless. Just hate waiting forever for it lol.
The massacre could be a super predator that massacred whatever survivors were around, because they probably hunted down its infants using weapons and so, leading to them being banned on the first subnautica. Leading to us being the sole survivor. Or one of the few. So we either have to do a little investigation on who the hunters were, or we pull a jurassic park one and need to set free whatever creatures could of been captured for studies. Its all just drawings on a piece of paper for now.
Thanks for the GREAT info. im playing Sub right now and im going to keep a extra eye out for "spoilers" thanks. I would love a prequel to the original survivors on the islands. and having NPC's would be a great addition also. Finding pets that will follow you on the ground would be a good addition. What would you think about weapons that fail? that's why they don't include them for survival kits.
Im making a guess here but know Natural selection 2 takes place on an earth colony, and has been confirmed to cannonicly apart of the subnautica story line, im thinking the Kharaa war depicted in NS2 may have been the massacre.
THEORY: Heres my head theory for this story, we're going to be continuing our journey from the original subnautica, for two main reasons, 1. We were given access to storage in our rocket, which was really strange because It was completely pointless as that would be the end of the game, nowhere else to head This would be a good point to continue off, If we decided to land on our new planet, So we'll be able to bring items from subnautica to subnautica 2 2. This also ties in with my second reason, subnautica's ending made it clear that we weren't able to land home as we needed to pay our debt, And of course we're not able to pay so we're kind of stuck floating around, So with that it would give us reason to look for a new place, a new planet, since our character was already able to live out his life in a dangerous world, there's no doubt he could do it again, somewhere more peaceful, that we can actually choose we would eventually reach obraxis prime maybe due to us desperately needing resources, We would step out to gather some materials and food And when we decide to go back to the rocket, there will be people and something that are not so human also, they could be ransacking the rocket while ripping it apart for materials, leaving it beyond repair, now forcing you into a situation where you need to stay and try to survive The reason why I could think that there could be some people here is that, It was never stated that the massacre ever ended, And with that I feel like it could also lead to situations where some people could join the massacre, inevitably creating a kind of war, and the idea where aliens could also join in this massacre, an amazing way to even do a crossover between their other game natural selection And from there it could also just lead to you either joining into the massacre or try your best not to hurt anyone All while trying to find out how to survive against predators and hunters while focusing on leaving the planet I do hope you guys enjoy my theory, And sorry about this feels so far-fetched
No crossover, please! I've thought of this but hope it does not happen - not good at and don't enjoy battle games. I do wanna know more about what happened during the massacre, though.
@@cruisingkoala1423 I think it would make sense for it to be a continuation for the og subnautica, since we can't land at our own home cuz of our debt and we had space on our ship for materials which was pointless as we never would use it
Below zero carried on explained a lot lore after the initial game. I’m surprised they didn’t want to continue on from there! Where you leave the planet with Alan and head to his home planet. Seems like it’s just going to be subnautica reinvisioned on real engine 5. Who knows?
what i hope for the next subnautica: (my opinions) all the old transport new transport (hopefully something bigger than the cyclopse) old creatures(maybe changed a bit) new creatures bigger map amazing graphics (i assume since unreal 5) wish they added multiplayer but sadly just co-op so people who want to play from different places cant :( A Unimaginably large creature like the skeleton in the deep All opinions
what i would like to see it become part of stallarus game thread, you still end up on 4546b, but you can get better equimpment, and you can come in as an officer or a passenger or an enson, and getting off the planet isnt any harder then 'no man;s sky, ' hmmmm........... but playing as an officer would be the easy mode, all tech is open to you, the enson, you have to work for everything, and as passenger, you have to collect pass cards to get or learn about anything you need to know about in order to survive................
The video premise looks basically identical to Subnautica 1. Crash landing in the ocean in an escape pod from a big ship. The big ship explodes. It's basically the same.
A service model game would be cool if similar to dying light 2 excluding the micro transactions (although I never saw the real money shop as that bad due to how inconsequential and out of the way it was). Dying light 2 is still getting fantastic updates and I do come back every once in a while to check out the new interesting things they added on to what was a full game that I already enjoyed.
I think a good way they could do it is sort of how ark did it with their seasonal stuff you have raptor claws and you have the Halloween stuff and Valentine's and all that and each item you can unlock for each year is different so I think that would be a good way to do it personally and also kind of looks like we might be in a more tropical area also and natural selection 2 they mention a praxis because they take place in the same universe and the company has said this because the same virus is in both the games the core of virus
I'm hoping for a size increase, specificaly depth. I wanna be decending for literal minutes into pitch black darkness with nothing but void around me. I feel like the cyclops is too big for the enitre map.
You should watch a video with the title: The President of Unknown Worlds APPROVED My Interview about Subnautica 2.. Then Subnautica 2 LEAKED. It's by Anthomania and the dev confirmed some things. To begin with the official name for the next game in the subnautica universe is called Subnautica 2, I believe since Below Zero was a spin off. The next thing is that the first 2 images you showed are not renders of fan art they are screenshots of the game running in unreal. He did not confirm this for the time capsules as they were not discovered yet. In the video there are more details about the images and interesting speculations so give it a watch.
isn’t it subnautica 3 because of below zero
I’m confused too. I thought it be 3 unless below zero was a dream.

THEORY: Heres my head theory for this story,
we're going to be continuing our journey from the original subnautica, for two main reasons,
1. We were given access to storage in our rocket, which was really strange because It was completely pointless as that would be the end of the game, nowhere else to head
This would be a good point to continue off, If we decided to land on our new planet, So we'll be able to bring items from subnautica to subnautica 2
2. This also ties in with my second reason, subnautica's ending made it clear that we weren't able to land home as we needed to pay our debt, And of course we're not able to pay so we're kind of stuck floating around, So with that it would give us reason to look for a new place, a new planet, since our character was already able to live out his life in a dangerous world, there's no doubt he could do it again, somewhere more peaceful, that we can actually choose
we would eventually reach obraxis prime maybe due to us desperately needing resources, We would step out to gather some materials and food And when we decide to go back to the rocket, there will be people and something that are not so human also, they could be ransacking the rocket while ripping it apart for materials, leaving it beyond repair, now forcing you into a situation where you need to stay and try to survive
The reason why I could think that there could be some people here is that, It was never stated that the massacre ever ended, And with that I feel like it could also lead to situations where some people could join the massacre, inevitably creating a kind of war, and the idea where aliens could also join in this massacre, an amazing way to even do a crossover between their other game natural selection
And from there it could also just lead to you either joining into the massacre or try your best not to hurt anyone All while trying to find out how to survive against predators and hunters while focusing on leaving the planet
I do hope you guys enjoy my theory, And sorry about this feels so far-fetched
No crossover, please! I've thought of this but hope it does not happen - not good at and don't enjoy battle games. I do wanna know more about what happened during the massacre, though.
@@cruisingkoala1423 I think it would make sense for it to be a continuation for the og subnautica, since we can't land at our own home cuz of our debt and we had space on our ship for materials which was pointless as we never would use it

Are you going to ever finish the Subnautica playlist that's currently left unfinished?
i'm actually happy sub 2 is gonna have a co-op feature. i've never heard of that piece of information at all yet and hearing it now gets me happy.
It could be the same creature but different biomes so they adapt to what they’re around
I think the story will take us to Obraxis Prime but post said ''massacre'' and your going to uncover what really happened there.
Look at the top left part of the first image. There is something there try to find it
We will get dynamic weather?
i want storms!
12:23 have you forgot about the floaters from subnautica seriously man you have to realize how close those actually look
So the game as a service model will be similar as the system in No Man Sky ?
Some of those images have the same pink peeper as the render of subnautica 2 with the submarine and the new blue and orange whale thing.
I did not expect you to look like that with your voice
The pictures are actually in game screenshots supposedly
the image at 8:40 kind of looks like a fossilised vent gaurdan but idk it could just be a rock
what i hope for the next subnautica: (my opinions)
all the old transport
new transport (hopefully something bigger than the cyclopse)
old creatures(maybe changed a bit)
new creatures
bigger map
amazing graphics (i assume since unreal 5)
wish they added multiplayer but sadly just co-op so people who want to play from different places cant :(
A Unimaginably large creature like the skeleton in the deep
All opinions
what i would like to see it become part of stallarus game thread, you still end up on 4546b, but you can get better equimpment, and you can come in as an officer or a passenger or an enson, and getting off the planet isnt any harder then 'no man;s sky, ' hmmmm........... but playing as an officer would be the easy mode, all tech is open to you, the enson, you have to work for everything, and as passenger, you have to collect pass cards to get or learn about anything you need to know about in order to survive................
Time Capsule 5761746572 image looks like a rainbow color changing squid with their heads buried into a plant.
Those pictures are probably mixed up with some Spore stuff..
The video premise looks basically identical to Subnautica 1. Crash landing in the ocean in an escape pod from a big ship. The big ship explodes. It's basically the same.
The video in the beginning is from subnautiva 1
Missed what looked to be in a crab creature in the picture with the new shark like creature
For clarity yes it's of Subnautica 2 it was confirmed by the devs
I'm hoping for a size increase, specificaly depth.
I wanna be decending for literal minutes into pitch black darkness with nothing but void around me. I feel like the cyclops is too big for the enitre map.
Not doing game as a service outside of mmo's and the like.
I hope this game is multiplayer so we can get another banger series from Fisk and Fooster ❤😂
As long as the game is more Subnautica and less below zero im happy
sorry buddy didn't hear the game you were calling out. was it Astroneer?
I asked this question a lot but never got an answer: will Mac users be able to play the game?
It needs co op with friends
Who's hype for the next instillation of one of the greatest survival game series?
i'd rather see what happened when you returned at the end of subnautica, alterra's reaction etc......
I wonder what is the name of the vehicle in the thumbnail
OR after you leave on the Neptune 1 you land/crash on Obraxis Prime and realize there never was a massacre
