    I ran into a xenophile fallen empire, and mostly they just chilled out and asked for zoo people. eventually, the contingency came to life, and them and the custodian matrix federated and beat up the awakened xenophobic empire. after the empire was destroyed and signatoried, all three fallen empires WORKED AS A MEGA TEAM and obliterated the contingency. my empire, being quite stronk, was totally prepared for a fallen empire. not three though. I died HARD.

      Lol.
      This is why I seek to make early empires my Allies and make sure we both knock out some nearby empire to ensure survival and subjugation along with making sure we keep growing stronger until I decide to create a federation.
      Federations help a lot they can be a bit inconvenient sometimes but having that much strength helps especially against fallen empires.

    My most glorious game was with a customize human cilization, the Terran Union. I had a Fallen Empire machine, that did nothing at all, and, at the other side of the galaxy from my position, the xenophobe. This last one Awoken and started to vassalize his neighbors, becoming more and more powerful. But me, I also was becoming strong, conquering a lot, but especially becoming a beacon of freedom and equality (imposing freedom Murica's way, basically). I had almost every existing species as citizen, and when an alien became president, I change the name of my empire for the Stars Alliance. And that was at this moment that I launched the war to end all wars against the Awakened Empire, pushing him back, helping thralls to gain back their freedom and, at the end, seizing all of their systems except a few ones (because the warscore didn't allow me to take more). With a broken empire, and the Stars Alliance now the dominant power in the galaxy, the Ancient Ones couldn't hope to make a come back anymore. The end.
    Oh, and you know that first alien president? It was also my best admiral, winning two wars against Hive Minds empires, a butterfly. I named him Fabulous Butterfly, and for the last was, he was commanding the First Fleet.

      They might have different ideals about HOW the do that. the Xenophiles wants all races to rally behind them, if a endgame crisis comes along. The Machine Empire wants to safeguard organics like a servant - custodian. Basically, they might have attacked each other for no reason other than a show of force. Yes, but the main game's updates always adds more content/bug fixes. The stuff they want for the majority of their player base is good game play, so of course they're going to add more graphical options for the *player* but not for the AI events and whatnot.
      For example, they could have added a new shipset for the marauders, but instead they're just reusing the pirate shipset.

    An interesting note for those with the Synthetic Dawn DLC:
    Instead of having ringworlds, the Materialistic Fallen Empire has an Archive filled homeworld which containing every scrap of knowledge that empire has discovered, granting a massive boost to research if one conquers the planet.

    • @jakespacepiratee3740
      @jakespacepiratee3740 6 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Another interesting thing is that the Xenophilic fallen empire has a comparable world in the form of 'the preserve', and when they awaken, they remove all of the xeno preserve buildings, and they lower the rights of any non-founder alien race to a residence living in poverty. The Materialists don't do this, upon awakening, thy keep their archive buildings intact, so, maybe the materialists aren't as good as the xenophiles when it comes to letting the past go?

    • @shae98sc2
      @shae98sc2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I think it's more like the Xenophiles see the Preserve and other species the way we do zoos. At best, they're conservation efforts trying to preserve the genetic diversity of the universe; at worst, they're for the entertainment of the population, who can stare and gawk at the scary primitives from behind the protection of a force field.
      The Materialists believe they've discovered all that can be known, and are trying to prevent an AI crisis from screwing the universe over. Of course, they also believe that the other non-FEs are too backward to understand, being more concerned with things like "progress" and "life improvement". Thus they resort to vassalizing empires, going over their research to ensure that no dangerous technology is being researched (i.e. the research "donation" Materialist FE subjects must give).

    I think there might be more to the Fallen Empires then you think. The Xenophile, Xenophobe and Spirtualists FE's all have some kind of planet in their border that is special in one way or an other. The Xenophiles have the destroyed moon 'Sister', the Xenophobes have three shielded worlds and the Spiritualsits have a broken planet called 'The Mistake'.

      I didn't know that. In that case, the only FE that doesn't have some planet that's most likely connected to their backstory are the Materialists. And that's probably because in the older versions of the game, their backstory was obvious. They survived some kind of AI uprising/the Cybrex, and want to make sure something like that doesn't happen ever again.

    • @blitcut9712
      @blitcut9712 6 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      +aquos Yea, now admittedly I haven't done much research into this but to me his explanations just didn't feel convincing from what I've seen. This is essentially what I've understood about them.
      Materialist: They used to be a highly technologically advanced civilisation that something happened to which caused them to turn inwards instead (previously it was quite obviously a robotic uprising but now I'm not so sure anymore). So now they just collect and preserve their, and others, technology. Which is why they're called archivist, chronicler and conserves.
      Spiritualist: Once a great religious empire, however they did something with the shroud that caused their collapse, now they just guard their holy planets.
      Xenophiles: Not sure exactly what happened to them but they were probably part of some large federation that fell.
      Xenophobes: Once a mighty empire built on conquest which for some reason fell. They're now the last remnants of their empire (which is why they're called remnant, shard and vestige) and desire as little contact with other empire as possible.
      Now I don't know were The Spiffing Brit has gotten all this information but it simply seams to contradict everything we see in the game.

    • @aquos4176
      @aquos4176 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I honestly don't think there's one canon answer to this. But I agree, Brit's explanations don't make too much sense with what we've got in game.

  • @Spoonhead1252
    @Spoonhead1252 6 ปีที่แล้ว +208

    I disagree with your theory about the xenophobe fallen empire. Here is a direct quote from the game: "This Awakened Empire seeks to restore its lost dominion over the galaxy. They are likely to attack any empire that does not acknowledge their overlordship." Lost dominion. Meaning they had dominion over the entire galaxy at one point. What I think is that they dominated the galaxy, but then, looking back with moral disgust, stagnated, and eventually regressed back to their current borders. Why do I think this, you may ask? Well, during the event chain for the shielded world in the fallen empire, you can get an event where an admiral from the xenophobe fallen empire reveals he had become a symbol of hate, so he was banished to the shielded world.

    you've gotten the materialist empire completely wrong, possibly due to misinterpreting the phrase materialist into materialistic which means wealth focused in common parlance. However in the context of stellaris materialist means only materialistic in terms of focus on the tangible rather than the intangible, the Materialist fallen empire is hyper focused on science, they consider other science focused peoples (aka those discovering stuff) a positive, they only get mad when you research AI or other dangerous technology because they think the younger races aren't ready for that knowledge and couldn't handle the potential consequences of unleashing it. They don't care about money, at all, they care about knowledge and making sure knowledge is used responsibly.

    Yo.... that's a nice system you got there... can I have it?
    On one of my early playthroughs (I got the game on Christmas, so that's not saying much, lol), an awoken materialist empire that was in the middle of expanding asked if I wanted to be protected because I was progressing too rapidly or something like that. Being the idiot that I was, I accepted! And what do you know, I was vassalized into their empire. I built up my fleet, and declared my independence a few years later, I won by darting in and out of a few of their systems, and waiting it out, finally they accepted.
    And within a few years, the AI contingency came over to say hi. :')

    WARNING: WALL OF TEXT. IF YOU DON'T WANT TEXTUAL BUKKAKE, AVOID THIS COMMENT.
    You can get some interesting insight into the mindset of the core four Fallen Empires if you are Psionic, and get a random Shroud event:
    ---
    We are looking down upon our galaxy from far above, at a distance of what must be hundreds of thousands of lightyears. Without warning, the psionic current plunges us down towards the myriad stars at an incredible speed, into the region of space belonging to one of the Fallen Empires - the [fallen_empire.GetName]. Stars swish by, then planets, until the vision finally settled on a [fallen_empire.GetSpeciesName] city. Incredible spires rise towards the sky, aided by anti-grav technology generations beyond our own. The current takes us into such a spire, through wall after wall until we reach a large meeting room of sorts. It is occupied by two [fallen_empire.GetSpeciesNamePlural], floating comfortably in zero-gravity chairs while conversing with each other in soft voices. They are oblivious to our presence.
    The [fallen_empire.GetSpeciesNamePlural] are clearly dignitaries of some kind, discussing matters of state. Slowly, surely, the vision encroaches upon them while their alien speech is gradually transformed into words that have meaning to us.
    Then you get one of three conversations:
    ---
    1) "...is mad. If she thinks that the people would be willing to accept even a momentary lapse in the living standards that they have grown accustomed to, there is..."
    The mind-glow of the two [fallen_empire.GetSpeciesNamePlural] is overwhelming. Like a blossoming flower, their minds open and are laid bare. It would be so easy to reach in.
    "...don't care what the Council says. The upstarts are still millennia behind us, and their miserable fleets can no more threaten us than a Gazurian gnat could consume a Hilaxi fire lizard. There is no need for..."
    ---
    2) "...is a disgrace. Imagine if the younger races were to even suspect that we no longer fully understand our own technology! We must..."
    The mind-glow of the two [fallen_empire.GetSpeciesNamePlural] is overwhelming. Like a blossoming flower, their minds open and are laid bare. It would be so easy to reach in.
    "...still think punitive actions are uncalled for. They are young and careless, but so were we once upon a time. There is still time for them to..."
    ---
    3) "...are growing more and more powerful. Elements of the Council are convinced that unless we take action..."
    The mind-glow of the two [fallen_empire.GetSpeciesNamePlural] is overwhelming. Like a blossoming flower, their minds open and are laid bare. It would be so easy to reach in.
    "...and that perhaps we should have taken steps to cull the younger races before they grew too powerful. I have to say that I agree with him, but the Council feels that it is too late now to..."
    ---
    After this, you get the following option:
    Option: Reach into their minds in search of secrets.
    There. Technological secrets plucked from the recesses of their minds, as easy as one would copy a file from an unlocked computer. The [fallen_empire.GetSpeciesNamePlural] remain ignorant of the theft that has taken place within their very minds.
    At which point you get an unresearched high level technology: Living Metal Tech, Dark Matter Drawing, Neutronium Extraction, Neutronium Materials, Antimatter Power, Zero Point Power, Climate Restoration, Gaia Creation, Nutrient Replication, Applied Superconductivity.
    The mechanic is it starts at the first of this list and scans downward until it finds one, hence Applied Superconductivity at the end. This allows this event to fire with a reward even if you have everything already.
    ---
    Of course, there is also a 40% chance the event will backfire, where you get the following:
    The [fallen_empire.GetSpeciesNamePlural] are clearly dignitaries of some kind, discussing matters of state. Slowly, surely, the vision encroaches upon them while their alien speech is gradually transformed into words that have meaning to us. Suddenly, the aliens go quiet and very still.
    "Can you feel it?"
    "Yes. Someone is watching."
    Their eyes search the room until both of them are staring directly at us. "Remarkable. A psionic probe."
    "It appears [Root.GetSpeciesName] in origin. Quickly, activate the transplanar shield." The vision ends abruptly.
    ---
    Then they contact you to tell you off:
    [Root.GetSpeciesNamePlural]. Do not think that your loathsome attempt to invade the minds of our leaders has gone unnoticed. There will be consequences.
    You then take a diplomatic hit.
    ---
    But as you can see, there are insights into the Fallen Empires. They are showing their failures - one of the conversations shows they are a decadent nation, a race of creatures that are used to creature comfort, unwilling to show austerity so that they may reignite their once proud nation. Another shows they are embarrassed for themselves, they are unable to comprehend their own technology. This isn't that surprising. Look at how many people, specifically, YOUNG people who proudly say things like "I don't know much about computers" with regards to simple tasks/activities. And finally, they desire to cull the herd of the races, but the government feel that while they could at one time, they are past the apex when it could be sensible.
    Quite interesting, really.

    It would be cool if there was a chance for a citizen of a Fallen Empire to defect and approach your empire with the offer to join you as a scientist, general, etc., or just give you a flat research bonus because they think you are more likely to carry out ascension or some other grand goal than the Fallen Empires that have deliberately chosen not to continue progressing towards. Of course, accepting them into your empire would hurt your relations with the Fallen Empire as a tradeoff for whatever benefit they give you.

    Ok. I already watched your completely balanced series. I just started playing stellaris and decided why not ill Google lore and guess who does it lol. But I've been watching the Playlist and the fallen machine empire is legit.. the empire I just made.. my first empire. Their (The Protectorate) backstory is that they were built by a long dead empire to defend the capital worlds as a sort of final sanction and defense against an oncoming threat. Centuries later they are still defending empty worlds. I just took a few stars and have been kinda turtling with my defense building up while I learn game systems.

    I know it’s just a theory but I believe for the Spiritual empire. If you ever search their home world they have some planets like. “The Cradle, The Mother,” etc. But there is also a destroy planet called. “The Mistake.” This to me means that maybe they “cleansed” this planet and thus the Species feels great remorse for this and stop ascending the religious path because of this. Or maybe the created a tech or such to destroy this planet by accident and thus feel the same way.

    Playing a machine race, with the fallen machine empire in contact at the time of the contingency uprising, I had some interesting dialog from the empire about my firewalls. Of course, the fallen empire offered me an upgrade to my code which resulted in a crash and diminished my population for years (although I did get a buff from it in another campaign). What I found strange was that after beating the 4 machine world's, the 5th and final machine world was literally inside of the machine fallen empires borders... Coincidence? Or perhaps one big galactic test of worthiness? After the crisis was defeated the fallen empire simply left, a bit of dialog ensued, but all of their territory was abandoned.

And then a crisis event happened and of course it started in a system with a planet so it's destroyed but still there. On the Up side basically every fleet is there apart from xenophobes. Because of the crisis I actually managed to build up a single fleet that broke the xenophobes next to me by engaging their two fleets that together were stronger than mine but apart could be destroyed. After i conquered them I moved on to breaking both fallen empires with a new superfleet.
