The best part is how Dark Sol first appears and is all dark and foreboding, and then suddenly battle music kicks in and he makes the same noise as all the other mobs.
Has anybody else here even unlocked smaller secret content within the game? I tinkered with it and found ways to give your characters just a little more boost and also uncover hidden dialogue. What you do is.... DON'T rescue the elf, the Ogre, OR the princess on your playthroughs....at least....not at first. Instead..do it later..if at all. If you have the medallion for the shining knight fountain with the patron (to refill all life and magic towards the very end).. you have the magic to do this. Physically run to each location using magic to clear out the monsters. You can save all three WITHOUT going back to town/castle where theyd then leave your party. Those characters will randomly attack with you. So with 3 of them.. you will have them attack more often. The Ogre does the most damage. So its like a party of SIX and not 3. Plus.. you never have to worry about healing them. This gives you additional dialogue in the throne room at the very end as the princess mentions wanting to go out with you and fight more....lol. OR....you don't rescue the princess at all. She will still be in the throne room prior but is still officially in her cell right before the last level. But if you win the game with her technically still imprisoned... she says that your father's soul/ghost came to rescue her when the labyrinth was collapsing... she notes how he was always loyal/honorable. So... hope that tidbit for a game that's nearly 35 years old is something new for all of you. : ) ****** My original comment was lost when my last account was deleted.. shame as it had some likes..lol.
The first time I used the Ogre Flute, I was left humorously speechless for a few seconds. Having that, the Earth Hammer, Black Box, and Shock Box were very useful against the those pesky but useful to kill crystal oozes. That was the easiest way to max all characters' stats and levels.
Well done, although I do not understand why people were asking how you scored the number of awesome blows and connected status effects. Seemed pretty obvious to me, but that is probably because I am playing it on the Wii, and know that either you had "you should be playing the lottery instead of Shining in the Darkness" luck, or you were Save-stating it.
OMG! I used to be sooo addicted to this game when I was young! I wish they made Shining in the Darkness 2 with better graphics for either PS3 or Xbox360 I wouldso play it again!!!
The wobbly enemy sprites, the back-and-forth wiggle when they attack, the cross-shaped combat menu -- all I can think of is Lufia and the Fortress of Doom, which if I recall correctly was made by the same development team.
This was a prequel to Shining Force 1 & 2. I remember playing Sega and Nintendo before that for so long that when Sega CD came out the game didn’t seem right. It wasn’t natural. Sad thing is it never took off. I wish I among many others actually bought into the infamous Sega CD. If we all did it would be pretty interesting to see where Sega would be today. Sega CD destroyed Sega. They couldn’t bounce back after that and refused to change Bits and play catch up to sadly Super Nintendo. Which was actually digressing. Problem was everyone was used to Nintendo just not Sega CD.
Honestly I think this game only had 2 Bosses in the whole thing... all the rest were only at best Mini Bosses. Also how the buggers were ya getting your Hero to crit so often? O_0
you fought the kaiser krab at level 5?!? i didn't even dare to venture in that deep until i was at least level 7. and what's up with all the awesome blows?!?
+MissLionheart I don't know how some define "boss," but that's called a "Grimwall," and it only appears if you go up to the right wall and use the Orb Of Truth. Since you may have to do that several times with the same one on Labyrinth Level 1, to get finished enough with Level 2 that you can plant the Medallion in position to zap about to Level 3--and since there are a few more Grimwalls hiding treasures on other floors--some people may interpret them as not like the other bosses. BTW, some people may want a Bildblock(mainly appears on Level 5) included as a boss, but I'm glad I didn't see one here. I hate those brutally tough enemies.
I think the moment when Pyra opened her items (3.06) was amazing foolish unfair bullshit. It's 'very strange for me that I not see comments about this obvious deception. Sorry for my English just in case. Of course it's not my native language.
its TAS probably, meaning he is running into very few if any monsters and has a 100% Awesome Blow rate if you didn't notice AAAAA is just mauling things. To most though the use of "Save State" in an emulator is cheating.
@Tonh1n You can do some pretty amazing stuff if you acquire many of the legendary items. But it's possible to do, even without them. There's a hilarious weapon you can get where a giant foot comes down from above and smashes the enemy. lol
Its cheating but I wish I had it back when I played it on Genesis. It took me like a year to beat this game. It was the first RPG I ever completed. I wish I had it still.
The problem with your argument is that autosave was built into those games by design. Developers of older games never designed their games so you could just erase any minor mistake out of convenience because it would make the whole thing piss-easy. You're using an external program (the emulator, in this case) to alter the game's code to your advantage, giving you access to a feature that the developers never intended you to have. By definition, you are cheating.
@FickJaIchLiebeKiffen I have beaten this game on console. This video is from my test run (tool-assisted speedrun). So, I didn't fight enemies much and was low leveled. If you like to see 99 level heroes blow the bosses away, be my guest and do it yourself.
You should have indicated that this was done on an emulator with savestate manipulation. Your accomplishment is great, to be sure, but it's also a bit misleading because of all the awesome blows and such.
i dont get it how you are so lucky, awesome blows all the time, the ai seems to attack the character who is in defensive stance and healed... either you are cheating or you trained on gettin max possible luck on levelups... or, you are very lucky by nature:D
Can do. I just doubt it goes in one piece within ten minutes, but let's see. Only problem is that this was recorded from my speedrun so it's missing Gila and Dai, so I have to play a little to get them.
+Don Juan Sounds like you're talking about a type of foe called an Ostrik, which has too much frequency to be called one of the bosses. When there is a group of 5 or more, they're apt to "attack as one massive force," and do 10 damage to 1 member of your team for every Ostrik, in that case 50 damage. I think they're only found in the Cave Of Wisdom, and perhaps once in a while in the early part of the 2nd floor.
Tool-assisted test speedrun on emulator. Basically, critical hits happen at random frame (1/30 of a second) and you just had to test each frame if it works.
The best part is how Dark Sol first appears and is all dark and foreboding, and then suddenly battle music kicks in and he makes the same noise as all the other mobs.

Was gonna say Gila (the ogre?) is more or less how the TAS of this game is played
But what's the elf? You mean either Dyan or her brother (or Edward?)
He wasn't kidding when he said "prepare to meet your maker."
Lol, sperm.
Player:I'm a brave boi
*see dark sol final form*
Player:NOT A BRAVE ENOUGH BOI FOR THIS
"VROOM! VROOM! ROARRRR!"
Always thought that was utterly hilarious!
this is the first RPG i ever played
Truly great game. Even better is Shining the Holy Ark, which is one of my top 10 games of all time.
The first time I used the Ogre Flute, I was left humorously speechless for a few seconds. Having that, the Earth Hammer, Black Box, and Shock Box were very useful against the those pesky but useful to kill crystal oozes. That was the easiest way to max all characters' stats and levels.
This is the first game made. Shining force and shining force 2 where sequels to this. Its a great game.
wow so this was before shining force... they evolved very well on the genesis i must say.
Loved this game and the spiritual successorl Shining Force :)
Actually this game was made before Shining Force 1 and take place after
Shining the Holy Ark is the spiritual successor clearly, the Tower of Illusion theme is clearly a homage throwback to the Lower Labyrinth.
Cave of Courage. Tortolyde got the Orb of Truth, what you needed to get to Cave of Truth.
Just played it two nights ago. Nostalgia FTW.
nice, gotta love that shining force darksol music
my favote game of all times, nice vid showing all bosses. thanks
All these years, and I never noticed til now, that Dark Sol's ultimate form was to have two shiny glossy blue butts right in his face for all time.
aaah, the joys of stacking multiple barrier rings and laughing in dark sols face :-)
I love how the monsters twitch. They're anxious to kill oyu.
It just brings them to life a little. Pokémon didn't get moving sprites (and even then only the second they came out) until Gen II Crystal...
@@ElvenSpellmaker It also helps that they didn't have near as many sprites.
When darksol dies at the end lol. BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM AHUH DIS MY SHIT
lol oh man. I remember this game. I only got up to Doppler I think. Thanks for the vid.

In old school times, he'd be double the level I'm sure! State saves and stat padding is where it was at here 😁
OMG! I used to be sooo addicted to this game when I was young! I wish they made Shining in the Darkness 2 with better graphics for either PS3 or Xbox360 I wouldso play it again!!!
Or PS4 (or PS5??)
I think the SITD 2 already done, that's Shining the Holy ark from 1997.
The wobbly enemy sprites, the back-and-forth wiggle when they attack, the cross-shaped combat menu -- all I can think of is Lufia and the Fortress of Doom, which if I recall correctly was made by the same development team.
Amendment to my last statement the blow rate is not quite 100 but its high for whenever I played it.
Zeon also uses Demon Breath :3
More like Plutonium Breath. ☢️

Nice job mate, you got some great TASes but this in not from Dark Kobold's TAS.
But hey, who cares, great video is the main point! :)
I see where shining the holk ark came from.
you fought the kaiser krab at level 5?!? i didn't even dare to venture in that deep until i was at least level 7. and what's up with all the awesome blows?!?
Save states
Some bosses are missing. Isnt the Fake Wall a boss for example?
+MissLionheart I don't know how some define "boss," but that's called a "Grimwall," and it only appears if you go up to the right wall and use the Orb Of Truth. I don't know
How come you always get awesome hit?
I think the moment when Pyra opened her items (3.06) was amazing foolish unfair bullshit. It's 'very strange for me that I not see comments about this obvious deception. Sorry for my English just in case. Of course it's not my native language.

@Tonh1n
TAS Shining in the Darkness GEN in 43:27
@Tonh1n You can do some pretty amazing stuff if you acquire many of the legendary items. But it's possible to do, even without them. There's a hilarious weapon you can get where a giant foot comes down from above and smashes the enemy. lol
Man, it'd been nice if SEGA got off their asses and remade this gem in HD
That would be nice. 😁
Save and load is not cheating. Blackbone is tough but maybe shouldn't be called a boss at all since it can be skipped.
so much fun this game, feel like there was more bosses tho...Im probably wrong. Should added a crystal ooze fight even tho they arent bosses.
health for team
hero 999/999 0/0
milo 980/980 750/750
Pyra 870/870 910/910
@SmokeMouseStudios
that is pretty damn impressive. wow.
0:59 I'm pretty sure that's supposed to say "clobbering," not "feeding."
Its cheating but I wish I had it back when I played it on Genesis. It took me like a year to beat this game. It was the first RPG I ever completed. I wish I had it still.
You can buy it on steam for $1 now
The problem with your argument is that autosave was built into those games by design. I just leveled up with speed mode and kept healing at water goddess shrine till 99lvl
CRAB BATTLE!!
hero Lv99
milo Lv98
Pyra Lv89
still have it!
Where was GrimWall? :/ Nice vid.
Lol I fought the first boss at level 10 as the first time I saw it I was level 8 and lost 😅
@FickJaIchLiebeKiffen I have beaten this game on console. This video is from my test run (tool-assisted speedrun). So, I didn't fight enemies much and was low leveled. If you like to see 99 level heroes blow the bosses away, be my guest and do it yourself.
before I got to Kaiser krab hero was Lv35
and playtime then 15:34
@Tjuguskegg666 I also have a japanese version. I didn't pay much for it so it's not rare.
You should have indicated that this was done on an emulator with savestate manipulation. Your accomplishment is great, to be sure, but it's also a bit misleading because of all the awesome blows and such.

either you are cheating or you trained on gettin max possible luck on levelups... or, you are very lucky by nature:D
AAAAA is the only one who can get shaggy to use 50% of his power
Sorry that I didn't mention all the bosses are from my Tool-assisted speedrun. So, I basically saved and loaded until I got results I wanted.
dark bone with level 19???????
i lose with level 31
did you use cheats?
is this game good?
Can do. I just doubt it goes in one piece within ten minutes, but let's see. Only problem is that this was recorded from my speedrun so it's missing Gila and Dai, so I have to play a little to get them.
I already got 2 or 3 of them now a truckload of them left
wow I was lv70 at darksol. you beat him at a low lv impressive
be careful of the fowl, they travel in packs
+Don Juan Sounds like you're talking about a type of foe called an Ostrik, which has too much frequency to be called one of the bosses. Luck manipulation. Load until you get awesome blow, then save. And I didn't even get AB always.
How de foek is mc getting only críticals?
Tool-assisted test speedrun on emulator. Basically, critical hits happen at random frame (1/30 of a second) and you just had to test each frame if it works.
ps
play time
98:34
BULLSHIT! I'm a level 7 and I still get my ass handed to by the crab. Yet you own him in TWO hits?!
OH, nevermind, forgot, emulator. LMAO!
Wasn't trying to be rude. LOL
Hey brah f4f?
I have beaten Kaiser at lvl 4 too :)
It's just a matter of luck manipulation.
lol, oh i see.
@shiloushilou You should play the sequel, Shining the Holy Ark, if you are able. It's way better.
know lits see all the monsters lol&fmt=18
It's based on luck.
Save and load IS cheating, unless you are refearing to the internal game save.
with awesome attack hack is too easy
It's useful though for something like this that is just simply meant to showcase the bosses.
I see where shining the holk ark came from.
