Nice tweezers, I'd love a pair for my service work. Now I wonder how long will it take until Fnirsi launch one. I hate the grub screw mount on the tips, it's a destroyer for sure. If they made a better mount, like a collet or something, the tips wouldn't get deformed and you could share them with a soldering station no problem. The DC barrel jack is like nothing I've seen before, I could almost trust it with life, universe and everything.
It is not necessary to tighten the screws so strongly - the soldering tips center themselves accurately enough. The tips lock in exactly the same way as any soldering iron with JBC type soldering tips. These screws are for more precise alignment of the tips
Sequre S99 comes with that same 65W PSU. They actually suggest using a Lenovo Legion C135 for 150W, 2.5Ω tips (included one is 75W, 5.5Ω). Powering two smaller tips could probably use the upgrade. I just finished building a portable battery stand for my Sequre S99 today and I’m pretty proud of it. Got a Power Wheels adapter for DeWALT batteries and mounted a metal plate with a binder clip attached. Then I threaded a spring door stop into the binder clip and cut the excess so the iron tip would protrude. Connected the included XT60 to USB-C cable and it totally works!
Definitely, but I’m off to a rocky start with mine. The accelerometer didn’t work and they sent me the defective V1.4 PCB over two months after they supposedly corrected the issue in shipping units (not for American Amazon orders, it seems). I couldn’t even claim the compensatory free iron tip since they explicitly exclude orders after April 23rd. I had to wait on a replacement V1.5 PCB for the accelerometer issue so it didn’t make sense to do the required capacitor fix for V1.3/1.4 PCBs. Hopefully they’ve got these issues behind them so that the iron can shine! It deserves more attention. Driving 150W JBC tips is a huge difference from the MiniWare TS-80/100/101 irons.

One thing I wish you do was to desolder some Electrolytic SMD Caps... Those seems to be the biggest pain in the behind and something some of us might want to change (old consoles from the 90s and 00s for example)
thermal capacity wise it may be not so good, but thermal TRANSFER wise it seems to be great! otherwise it wouldn't have dropped down to 50-60 degrees on the thermocouple inside the tips and would have shown higher temperatures. in other words, there seems to be good thermal coupling between the heater element and the outer surface of the tips.
Also who cares about thermal capacity in water, it's not like you'll be desoldering under water. lol Would have been nice to have barrel screws over the tip shafts like Weller and other soldering pens do for a quick change.
@@BillAnt The water test is mostly to check the maximum power consumption, and partly check the responsiveness of the system. You'll have a very hard time drawing the full 65W when soldering in normal use.
Yes JBC tips have good thermal coupling to the thermocouple inside, you can find some teardown photos and see the thermocouple on c210 is directly bonded to the tip.

Max current is 5A so if you had adjusted the current limit in settings it probably would've reached it when you used the DC barrel jack. Very nice looking tweezers all together. Considering how well they work, I'm tempted to try their C245 or C210 USB-C irons.
Thanks for showing that review. I think it's a great option for anyone considering board repair without a lot of money outlay. Due to my eyesight and age I don't do much repair anymore other than my own stuff. I will keep this on my list it is a wonderful option to have at a good cost for value.
This thing is awesome, I'm really impressed. Excellent build quality, good thermal performance, comes with an actual useful stand, meets its claimed specs and is not too expensive. Checked pretty much all the boxes afaik. After the massive disappointment with iFixit portable soldering iron, I'm glad Dave reviewed this fella.
Got a Sequre SI012 2 years ago. It's so good that I ended up using it for everything. Quite a bit of mileage on it now. I did not expect the level of quality for the price. Plus, the sequre tips are nearly as good as the JCB tips, and priced very well.

I have the S99 and love it. Using it with a Lenovo 180W laptop PSU that I put an XT60 connector on. Really impressed by Sequre, at least for hobby and semi-pro use.
I use a tip big enough to contact both pads across the side of an SMD part from 0805 down to 0402. Works for soldering and de-soldering. Seems like these are for larger parts like those diodes.
Oh, I built me a Weller clone using RTW tips from Weller as at the time all the cheaper alternatives were massive and wildly inaccurate. This would have been a possible contender, but by the looks of it the Weller is still the smaller more accurate alternative.
@@johnnodge4327 With tweezers you don't to worry about accidentally blowing other random parts off the board though. 2-3 seconds to heat up the iron, another 2 seconds to pluck the part off seems plenty fast for me. If you need to remove a bunch of differently sized parts though (as in different amount of pins for example), than that's a different story of course since swapping the tips out is going to take a bit of effort.
I already have soldering/rework stations giving me hot air, soldering irons, tweezers and desoldering 'heads' it can be a right nuisance swapping between said functions. This device looks to be a neat addition to the bench.
For the tweezers I would suggest to check if there is a IRONOS software version for it, which adds more feature and safety measures [like auto-shutdown, powerlimiting, etc]
I was wondering how ESD safe is DC based soldering iron pulsing on & off? Especially with C245 (8-10A). Does it not induce voltages around the tip like wireless power transfer? Opinions? 13:50 I noticed it shorts out or something happens & the mic pics it up, like static? Do you hear it? Or is it a coincidence?
Interesting tool. I don't do much work with SMD as I don't have the tools to work with the properly. This device would be helpful. Although it is meant for desoldering it looks like it could still help with soldering some of the smaller SMD parts on to a board
looks nice! i got one of those ksger with a external control box, but the handpiece is horrible.. nothing lines up, tips are huge and cant be swapped gotta wait until aliexpress allows shipping for those over here
Came here to ask exactly that. I work on cell phones and game consoles and I always have to replace tiny capacitors. This is the only thing keeping me from buying these as I don't know about leakage. Someone mentioned they leak about 6 V.

That's actually a very good point. I own two Sequre soldering irons and they both have a mounting screw for a grounding strap. Perhaps this one has that as well.
the out of focus was really distracting. This tweezer is really what I am missing in my lab. Barrel jack and USB C is also interesting idea. I just think they could of added a more intuitive UI with joystick or the single axis joystick that some soldering iron have.
Temperature settings can be be switched to a system developed by Sequre called Turbosets, where this tweezers can be controlled with the push of a only one button or in the usual way by two buttons. The settings are changed very rarely and it is not something that needs to be changed constantly - usually you need to switch on (or switch off) tweezers or soldering iron and have some most common temperature presets, so there is enough to use only one button in most cases.
@ yeah I would need to test it. i quickly judge the design without testing. I agree you set and forget. I change the temp and sleep timer on my soldering iron and then never touch it. But it was intuitive with that small joystick for the few seconds playing with it. I did not get frustrated.
There is another setting for left handed/right handed users - screen rotation by 180 degrees. This option exists in almost all Sequre products. LR select - You can use and control both tips when using HT140 as tweezers or use only one - only right or only left tip if You need to use HT140 as soldering iron
There is a learnig curve how to use tweezers. Even if you have JBC (as we have) you might think that it is a piece of crap. No, you need to know how to use it and when to use it and what is the use-case.
Do people generally expect to reuse two-pin SMD parts that they remove this way? Because if they're like me and think rescuing a $0.02 passive is silly, the technique of just putting a big blob of solder on the part and flicking it away with a conventional iron works pretty well and is free.
Very common to remove the part for testing out of circuit, and if it good you might put it back in. But it's also about doing the least damage to the pads.

So far, I've found it is worth spending the small fortune on real JBC 210 tips as they perform much better than the copies that ship with all these 'compatible' clone irons. Reckon these are likely no different.
I purchased one of these from Aliexpress, looks like postal system has lost the bloody thing as it claims to not be able to be delivered because nobody was home… there was, and my postie has a place to leave packages, so not my postie and not my house, bloody NZ Postal service has gone to crap in the past 6 months.
Not a fan of the grub-screws at all.. That would have been an absolute ideal place for implementing a split-ring type bolt tensioner. Same thing most mini ball-joints use for holding onto the ball-mount, where a tapering screw forces leaves to squeeze in closer with each turn. Passing on this one, poor mechanical engineering on a very crucial spot, looks great otherwise, but that approach is so 'meh'
Atleast Sequre S60P (C210 tips) requires you to recalibrate temperature for original jbc tips. They use different metal pair in thermocouple. After that use only JBC tips and all good
You'd be surprised of the stuff that comes up in the said field... Also, the definition of "field" varies widely across industries/sectors. My point is this thing is much less niche than it may seem.
@stoyantsalev3109 yes, I do agree that my understanding of "field" is limited only to my own experience. But even when I maintained 70s era telecom equipment which was full of through hole components, I have never had a necessity to replace even transistor in place. Just replace a board, get broken unit to lab and repair it there (usually we had dedicated people in the lab for that, but it's another story). That is why I doubt that now, someone would need to repair something like 0805 in place.
Really only of use with two pin components. Not even much use for three terminal devices, such as transistors. The old school two soldering irons is far more useful. They are nice to have, but not essential.

Well, most small SMD's don't have a huge thermal mass except larger ones.

if you want a good USB-C soldering iron I would suggest a PINECIL, or a TS100/TS101

If you change enough SMDs, hot air is faster.
When I work for Sony, we changed all sorts of devices with nothing but hot air.

You should check out the FNIRSI HS-02A (JBC c245 tips) or the FNIRSI HS-02B (c210 tips).
never use sponge - quick tip oxidation - use the copper wire mesh balls. (However I strangely enjoyed the sponge grow part)

For boards that are no longer made like vintage computers and game consoles using SMD tweezers gives a person piece of mind when recapping.

Don't use a sponge. Use the brass wool cleaners.
So far, I've found it is worth spending the small fortune on real JBC 210 tips as they perform much better than the copies that ship with all these 'compatible' clone irons. Reckon these are likely no different.
Still looks 100x better than iFixit disaster
Had no issues with decent brand copy tips, C245, C210 and C115, don't buy the cheapest no name ones.

Not a fan of the grub-screws at all.. That would have been an absolute ideal place for implementing a split-ring type bolt tensioner. Same thing most mini ball-joints use for holding onto the ball-mount, where a tapering screw forces leaves to squeeze in closer with each turn. Passing on this one, poor mechanical engineering on a very crucial spot, looks great otherwise, but that approach is so 'meh'
35V caps for 28V device, not sure about that
That's 80% of the voltage rating. They're not tantalum caps. They will be fine when used with a regulated power supply.

Atleast Sequre S60P (C210 tips) requires you to recalibrate temperature for original jbc tips. They use different metal pair in thermocouple. After that use only JBC tips and all good

Very nice product. However, realistically, who would use them in the field. IMHO such instrument is for lab, service centers etc.
You'd be surprised of the stuff that comes up in the said field... Also, the definition of "field" varies widely across industries/sectors. My point is this thing is much less niche than it may seem.
@stoyantsalev3109 yes, I do agree that my understanding of "field" is limited only to my own experience.
But even when I maintained 70s era telecom equipment which was full of through hole components, I have never had a necessity to replace even transistor in place.
Just replace a board, get broken unit to lab and repair it there (usually we had dedicated people in the lab for that, but it's another story).
That is why I doubt that now, someone would need to repair something like 0805 in place.

Really only of use with two pin components. Not even much use for three terminal devices, such as transistors. The old school two soldering irons is far more useful.
